Today’s Quote: Today I bent the truth to be kind, and I have no regret, for I am far surer of what is kind than I am of what is true.  ~Robert Brault

★~Today is Tell a Lie Day:

Feel free to lie today–However, do keep in mind that Odd takes no responsiblity for nose growth during “Tell a Lie Day.” Tomorrow,  please return to “honesty is the best policy.”

★~ Today in History:

♥~1964 – The Beatles set an all-time record on the Top 100 chart of Billboard magazine this day. All five of the top songs were by the British rock group. The top five singles by The Beatles this day were: 1) Can’t Buy Me Love 2) Twist and Shout 3) She Loves You 4) I Want to Hold Your Hand (5) Please Please Me

♥~ 1967Johnny Carson quit The Tonight Show. He returned three weeks later with an additional $30,000 a week!

♥~ 1968 – Civil rights crusader Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was gunned down on the balcony of the Motel Lorraine in Memphis, Tennessee. King had gone to Memphis to support a strike by sanitation workers. He was 39 years old. He was assasinated by sniper James Earl Ray as King stood on a motel balcony.

♥~1973 – The ribbon-cutting ceremony was held for the World Trade Center, New York City. At 1,368 and 1,362 feet and 110 stories each, the twin towers were the world’s tallest, and largest, buildings until the Sears Tower (Chicago) surpassed them both in 1974.

♥~ 1984Bob Bell retired as Bozo the Clown on WGN-TV in Chicago, IL. Bell was an institution in the Windy City since making his first appearance in 1960. Pinto Colvig was the original Bozo.

★~Born Today:

♥~1932 Anthony Perkins actor: Psycho series, The Sins of Dorian Gray, Mahogany, Murder on the Orient Express, On the Beach, Desire Under the Elms, Friendly Persuasion; died Sep 12, 1992

♥~ 1946 Craig T. Nelson Emmy Award-winning actor: Coach [1991-1992]; Probable Cause, Turner and Hooch, Troop Beverly Hills, Silkwood, All the Right Moves, Stir Crazy, Chicago Story, Call to Glory, Private Benjamin, Poltergeist, The Killing Fields, The District

♥~ 1965 Robert Downey Jr. actor: Ally McBeal, Richard III, Natural Born Killers, Short Cuts, Chaplin, Soapdish, Baby It’s You, U.S. Marshals

♥~ 1966Nancy McKeon actress: The Facts of Life, The Wrong Woman, Teresa’s Tattoo, Where the Day Takes You, The Lightning Incident, Poison Ivy, High School USA

★~Did you know: How to know if someone is lying

♥~ 1) They avoid making eye contact. 2) They touch or scratch their nose, throat or mouth. 3) Their eyes dart back and forth rapidly and they sweat profusely while they insist that they didn’t use the last of the milk and put the empty carton back in the fridge.

♥~ Sixty percent of people lied during a 10 minute conversation. Most of our lies are the little white lies we tell others, to make ourselves look better, or to spare others’ feelings.

♥~ Men and women lie about the same amount. They just lie about different things. Women most often lie to make others feel better. Men most often lie to make themselves feel better.

♥~ David Livingstone Smith, at the New England Institute for Cognitive Science and Evolutionary Biology, says we evolved to lie simply because it works. Lying helps us get food and sex and the other things we need and want.

♥~ The five biggest lies ever told: (1) I’m fine, (2) Seriously, I don’t like anyone, (3) I swear that was my last piece of gum. (4) I have read and agreed to the Terms & Conditions, (5) I love my homework at home; I swear I’ve done it.  Obviously there are more, but I think we will just stop here.

The minister was passing a group of young teens sitting on the Church lawn and stopped to ask what they were doing.

“Nothing much Pastor,” replied the one lad. “We just seeing who can tell the biggest lie about their sex life.”

“Boys! Boys! Boys!” he intoned. “You boys shouldn’t be having a contest telling lies!” he exclaimed. He then launched into a ten minute sermon against lying, beginning, “Don’t you boys know it’s a sin to lie,” and ending with, “Why, when I was your age, I never even thought about sex at all.”

They all replied, pretty much in unison, “You win Pastor!”
