People who throw kisses are mighty hopelessly lazy.  ~Bob Hope

Today is Kiss Your Mate Day:

Have you kissed your mate today? You have? Oh good because today is Kiss Your Mate Day and I don’t want you to miss out on this important celebration.

Today is also Blueberry Pie Day:

Before or after you pucker up (the choice is left up to you) enjoy a piece of blueberry pie. Blueberry pie is one of the most popular pies in the United States Maine produces more blueberries than any other state. In fact, Maine produces 25% of all low bush blueberries in North America. That makes New England state the largest producer of blueberries in the world!

★~ Today in History:

Crosley car

♥~ 1939 – Small cars were offered for sale in the U.S. for the first time. Imagine a car that sold $325., was 10-feet long, had an 80-inch wheelbase and a four-gallon gas tank; the Crosley became fairly popular back in 1939

♥~ 1957 – One of TV’s most respected personalities was seen for the first time coast to coast. Mike Wallace was the host of The Mike Wallace Interview, a Sunday night program that featured the grilling of greats, including Gloria Swanson, Steve Allen and stripper, Lili St. Cyr.

♥~ 1973 – The Dark Side of the Moon, by Pink Floyd, topped the U.S. album chart for one week before settling in to become the longest-running U.S. chart album of all time. Though it was only number one the first week, The Dark Side of the Moon stayed on the chart for 741 weeks.

♥~ 1985 – The little town of Parker, TX, not far from Dallas, reported a 2-to-1 edge in the ratio of tourists to residents. Some of the good citizens of the town of just over 1,000 residents were not pleased, either. Some 2,100 tourists each day converged on the town to visit Southfork Ranch, the home of the Ewing family of the CBS-TV hit, Dallas.

~ 2003 – Apple computer launched the I-tunes store

♥~ 2006 – Mexican lawmakers approved a bill allowing people to possess small amounts of marijuana, ecstasy, cocaine and heroin for their personal use.

★~Born Today:

♥~ 1878Lionel Barrymore (Blythe)Academy Award-winning actor: A Free Soul [1930-31]; Camille, Captains Courageous, Duel in the Sun, It’s a Wonderful Life, Key Largo, The Little Colonel; died Nov 15, 1954

♥~1941 Ann-Margret (Olsson) actress: Carnal Knowledge, Tommy, Viva Las Vegas, Grumpy Old Men, Grumpier Old Men, Bye, Bye, Birdie, Scarlett; singer: I Just Don’t Understand

♥~ 1948Marcia Strassman actress: Welcome Back Kotter, Honey I Shrunk the Kids, Honey I Blew Up the Kids, Another Stakeout; singer

♥~ 1950Jay Leno comedian, TV talk show host: The Tonight Show

♥~ 1971Simbi Khali actress: 3rd Rock from the Sun, She TV, Vampire in Brooklyn, A Thin Line Between Love and Hate, Plump Fiction, We Were Soldiers

★~ Did You Know: “Kiss” is from the Old English cyssan from the proto-Germanic kussijanan or kuss, which is probably based on the sound kissing can make.

♥~ The science of kissing is called philematology.

♥~ Lips are 100 times more sensitive than the tips of the fingers. Not even genitals have as much sensitivity as lips.

♥~ Approximately two-thirds of people tip their head to the right when they kiss. Some scholars speculate this preference starts in the womb.

♥~ On July 5-6, 2005 a couple in London locked lips for 31 hours, 30 minutes, and 30 seconds, making it the longest kiss ever recorded.

♥~ Kissing is good for teeth. The anticipation of a kiss increases the flow of saliva to the mouth, giving the teeth a plaque-dispersing bath.

♥~ The first on-screen kiss was shot in 1896 by the Edison Company. Titled The May Irwin-John C. Rice Kiss, the film was 30 seconds long and consisted entirely of a man and a woman kissing close up.

♥~ Polls consistently list the kiss between Ingrid Bergman and Cary Grant in the 1946 film Notorious as one of the sexiest kisses in cinematic history. Because the Hays Code allowed on-screen kisses to last only a few seconds, Alfred Hitchcock directed Bergman and Grant to repeatedly kiss briefly while Grant was answering a telephone call. The kiss seems to go on and on but was never longer than a few seconds.

One day, as a husband was reading the Sunday paper, his wife smacked him upside the head with a frying pan.

“What was that for?” cried the husband.

“I was doing your laundry when I found a piece of paper with the name of Marylou on it!” screamed the wife. “Who is she? Are you cheating on me?”

“Honey don’t worry. Remember when I went to the horse race three weeks ago with my friends? Marylou was the name of the horse I was betting on.

Satisfied, the wife continued doing the laundry. A few hours later, the wife smacked the husband with a frying pan again.

“What was that for?” said the annoyed husband.

“Your horse called.”

Throwing lots of kisses your way!  Hope your day is lip smacking good!

  1. Love these updates! Such fun! Will celebrate today by playing kissey Kissey with my baby and might even share a few with my hubby if he brings me a blueberry pie!

    • Thanks Becky.
Perhaps you should send hubby the odd link but be sure to say boldly–Please bring home Blueberry pie unless your guy is one of the few who would “just get it.”

      Have a great day.

  2. Given the popularity of the Smart car and Mini Cooper, I’m surprised somebody hasn’t relaunched the Crosley. Round it off a little, paint it a fun color and you’ve got yourself a trendy little $33,000 automobile (assuming it costs the same as a 2011 Mini Cooper).

  3. Ummm, blueberry pie — my Sheltie loves it! Of course, he won’t eat the blueberries plain; he’d much rather have ’em coated with sugar (like he needs more sweet things!) I never realized somebody had devoted a whole day to honor blueberry pie — imagine that!

    • I bet there is a day to honor snakes–too 😀 just saying! You know what–I have some blueberries in my fridge, some cream and a little powered sugar…thanks for the reminder! Pie later from Bakers Square BUT blueberries and cream NOW.

      Have a great day.

  4. Every day is “Kiss Your Mate Day” for me! How could I have missed “Blueberry Pie Day”? It’s one of my very favourite things!

“Dark Side of the Moon” is still one of my favourite songs…

    Hugs,
    Wendy
