★~ Sunglass Day:

I was once wearing a pair of sunglasses that I liked a whole lot while visiting with my friend Judy in the parking lot at Cole’s school. Judy, who we love for being direct and straightforward asked me, “Katybeth, are you sure you are wearing your sunglass? I lost mine a few weeks ago and your glasses look just like mine.” I took them off and sure enough I had stolen Judy’s sunglasses.  I had to give them back and head to the dollar store, where I buy all my disposable sunglasses—I lose sunglasses, step on them, sit on them, and have been known to fall down the steps and land on them. I long for an expensive, cool pair of sunglasses but know in my heart it would be a very poor investment since I would not have them for more than a few days. I am going to celebrate sunglass day by going to the dollar store and stocking up on summer eyewear! If you are coveting a new pair of sunglasses, today would be a good day to make your purchase. In any case, today is the day to protect your eyes from the summer sun with a pair of shades that you like wearing.

★~ Orange Blossom Day:

The popular Orange Blossom cocktail was invented way back during Prohibition, to soften the taste of bathtub gin. Because of its intoxicating fragrance, the blossom is also used as an additive to honey, tea, incense, perfumes, and in decorative floral arrangements for weddings around the world. Celebrate today by enjoying an Orange Blossom Cocktail, adding the fragrant orange blossom to your humble abode, or by just calling a friend in Florida and wishing them “Happy Orange Blossom Day”—after all, the Orange Blossom is Florida’s state flower.

★~ Today in History:

★~ 1859- HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO “HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU”.  The melody of probably the most often sung song in the world, “Happy Birthday to You,” was composed by Mildred J. Hill, a schoolteacher born at Louisville, KY, on this date. Her younger sister, Patty Smith Hill, was the author of the lyrics, which were first published in 1893 as “Good Morning to All,” a classroom greeting published in the book Song Stories for the Sunday School. The lyrics were amended in 1924 to include a stanza beginning “Happy Birthday to You.” Now it is sung somewhere in the world every minute of the day. Although the authors are believed to have earned very little from the song, reportedly it later generated about $1 million a year for its copyright owner. Mildred Hill died at Chicago, IL, June 5, 1916, without knowing that her melody would become the world’s most popular song.

♥~ 1966 – Dark Shadows began its popular run as a daily serial on ABC-TV. The show became a popular late-afternoon favorite for several seasons, then reappeared as a prime-time revival for a short, two-month run in 1991.

Among the organizations taking part were the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, a gay veterans group, an antique auto club for gays and Roman Catholics in favor of gay rights. The pride marches commemorate the anniversary of the Stonewall Riots, when patrons of a gay bar in Greenwich Village (New York) fought back against a police raid.

★~ Today’s Giggle:

Two men who are out walking their dogs meet on a street corner.

One says to the other, “Boy it sure is hot today. I’d really like to go into the bar and get a beer, but the sign on the front door says, ‘No Pets Allowed,’ and I can’t leave Buddy alone on the street.”

The other man replies, “No problem, just stand by the door and watch me, and you’ll be having that beer real soon!”

The second man reaches into his pocket and puts on a pair of dark sunglasses, and then walks into the bar. The bartender looks up and says, “Hey, you can’t bring that dog in here!”

The man says, “But I’m blind, and this is my seeing-eye dog!”

The bartender says, “Oh, OK then.” The man drinks his beer and leaves.

The first man then puts on dark sunglasses and goes into the bar. The bartender looks up and says, “Hey, you can’t bring that dog in here!”

The man says, “But I’m blind, and this is my seeing-eye dog!”

The bartender says, “Oh really? I’ve never heard of a Chihuahua seeing-eye dog!!”

The man, thinking quickly, blurts out, “Oh, man! You mean they gave me a Chihuahua?!?”

  1. I use to watch Captain Kangaroo every morning and his side kick Mr Green Jeans.
Orange Blossom cocktails are very good.

    Have a good one.

  2. I have owned the same pair of sunglasses for 10 years. They are like my security blanket. I can not imagine life without them and so far I haven’t had too!

Loved Captain Kangaroo! Watched him with my cereal every morning.

    Have a Merry Monday!

  3. I lost my sunglasses last summer and every time I went to a familiar place, I’d inquire about them. I went to one restaurant and they pulled a basket from beneath the counter that did, indeed, contain my sunglasses… and at least three dozen pairs of reading glasses. When you get to the reading glass stage, you may as well chain ’em around your neck. I’ve solved my problem by getting glasses that darken in sunlight.

    • Good thing I did not get to the basket of glasses first or your glasses might have been long gone. I have heard the best place to pick up new sunglasses and reading glasses is the lost and found since they have dozens of unclaimed pairs…so far I just spend my dollar. Glad you got your glasses back and solved your reading glass problem-o.

  4. Cute joke — love the image of a Chihuahua as a seeing-eye dog! Better stock up on sunglasses — the rest of this week is supposed to be sunny and warmer!

  5. Oh no, do yourself a favor and get the really good sunglasses. I got some prescription wayfarers – love them and so careful with them because if something bad happens I know I wont replace them for a long time

    • Well..I would love a pair…but i always take really good care of them and they always seem to disappear…my phone, my keys, my sunglasses have conspired against me…but we are trying to work it out and come to a mutual understanding before I lose my mind.
