★~ Today’s Question: If not now, then when?

★~ Punk Day:

Throw on a British/Irish punk accent, dress like a punk rocker, and go forth and punk. Being punk means being bold, unique, and original. Crank up the Sex Pistols, the Ramones, the Dead Kennedys, the Dead Milkmen, the Clash, or the Cramps. Walk around singing “Punk for a Day” by L. A.’s Wasted Youth. Give the kids something to wonder about. Keep in mind though, Odd is not responsible for any anarchist activity you engage in today.

★~ Bologna Day:

Does anyone really like bologna (pronounced ba-lone-y)? I have always wondered . . . I guess there are more kinds of bologna than Oscar Meyer, including German bologna and kosher bologna. But it still blows my minds that Americans eat 800 million pounds of bologna annually. I mean what part of the cow, pig, chicken, or turkey is the bologna? One site says it is cooked and smoked with a wonderful bouquet of spices that add to its delicious flavor. Frankly I think that is a bunch of baloney. However, if you are so inclined, add a slice or two to your sandwich today to celebrate Bologna Day!

★~  Good & Plenty Candy Day

Bologna Day and Good & Plenty Candy Day — does it get any better? God, I hope so. Am I just being a sourpuss? I’m sorry. To make it up to you, I will share a Good N’ Plenty cocktail recipe. Good N’ Plenty is a pink and white, soft and chewy licorice candy — just in case you have forgotten.

★~ Today in History:

♥~ 1939 – Women’s nylon hosiery went on sale for the first time — at Wilmington Dry Goods in Wilmington, DE. Why Wilmington? The Dupont Company, the inventor of nylon, is based there.

♥~ 1959 – Wilt ‘The Stilt’ Chamberlain launched a pro basketball record streak. Not only did he play in 799 consecutive games; he didn’t foul out in one of them.

♥~ 1976 – ABC’s Pro Bowler  Mark Hill of Lawton, OK bowled a perfect 300 game. Hill’s dad rolled a perfect game on February 15, 1975 and his mom bowled a 300 game on August 4, 1975. I guess bowling runs in the family.

♥~ 1982 – EPCOT (experimental prototype community of tomorrow) Center was dedicated by Disney Chairman, E. Cardon Walker at Walt Disney World, Florida: “May EPCOT Center entertain, inform and inspire, and above all, may it instill a new sense of belief and pride in man’s ability to shape a world that offers hope to people everywhere.”

♥~ 2010 – Lady Gaga became the first singer to reach 1 billion views on YouTube. The singer had this to say on her Twitter account, “We reached 1 Billion views on youtube little monsters! If we stick together we can do anything. I dub u kings and queens of youtube! Unite!”

★~ Did You Know: Epcot

♥~ It took nearly 3,000 designers and 4,000 construction workers to build the first phase of Epcot.54 million cubic feet of dirt was excavated to build the park.

♥~ Spaceship Earth, the visual and thematic centerpiece of Epcot, weighs 16 million pounds, measures 165 feet in diameter and encompasses 2.2 million cubic feet of space. The outer “skin” of Spaceship Earth is made up of 11,324 aluminum and plastic-alloy triangles.

♥~ The fountain at Epcot Innoventions Plaza can shoot water 150 feet in the air — within 30 feet of the top of Spaceship Earth. If all of the shooters were fired at once, there would be 2,000 gallons of water in the air.

♥~ It took more than 650 Walt Disney Imagineers more than 350,000 hours (the equivalent of 40 years of time) to develop Mission: SPACE. The Imagineers’ efforts took place over a five-year period.

♥~ The body of water at The Seas with Nemo & Friends provides a home to 3,000 fish and other sea creatures and contains 5.7 million gallons of water, one of the largest man-made ocean environments in the world.

♥~ More than 30 tons of fruits and vegetables grown at The Land pavilion each year are served in Walt Disney World restaurants.

♥~ The Land has a “tomato tree” that is the only one of its kind in the United States. The massive plant has produced a world-record harvest of more than 32,000 tomatoes from a single vine.

♥~ 26.2 miles of bratwurst are served every 60 days at the Biergarten restaurant in the Germany pavilion. That, by the way, is the length of a marathon.

♥~ Earth Globe is a 28-foot-diameter sphere on World Showcase Lagoon and the centerpiece of “IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth.” The globe weighs 350,000 pounds and is wrapped in more than 180,000 Light Emitting Diodes arranged in the shape of Earth’s continents.

Hope your Monday is more sweet than sour!  The roofers have made great progress but as I type it is raining and thundering out so we shall see what the day brings..But this is a great way testing, the weather worthiness, of the parts of my roof that are complete!  I will be back to muse a little later today.

If you have a morno moment leave a comment….Odd Loves Company!

  1. We really enjoyed Epcot on our last trip to Florida. We planned for Epcot over Disney and could not believe all the great things it had to offer and the really wonderful food.

Love Good ‘N Plenty Candy! What is wrong with you?? 😀

    Have a great day.

  2. That punk cat is so cute. Love the hair. Not a fan of Bologna but I enjoy Good N Plenties once in awhile. I think the color is a turn off for a lot of people.

Hope your roofers finish up today. The weather is heading south.

  3. I’ve only been to Epcot once, but it was wonderful and I’d love to go back. You always miss a few things and they’re continually adding new stuff to see. Your punk kittie is a doll! I happen to be one of those weird people who like bologna (but then, I rather enjoy Vienna sausages every now and then, too!) Hope you get the roofing done soon!

  4. Bologna I don’t eat it and didn’t serve it to Katybeth. I’ve never eaten span or mac N cheese either. Never served either one of them. Some how Katybeth has learned to fix and eat mac N cheese.
Most of my friends tell me about growing up eating fried bologna sandwiches. Of course they are the same friends who have been known to order the Lou Ann Special!!!!
Maybe I need a friend upgrade! Not really I love my friends and wouldn’t trade them for the world.

    • I knew about the Bologna, I knew about spam, I knew about Mac -n- Cheese but what the heck is the Lou Ann Special??
