November 7th

★~ Today’s Quote: I have measured out my life with coffee spoons. T. S. Elliot

★~ International Tongue Twister Day:

Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers.” “A quick witted cricket critic.” “She sells seashells by the sea shore.”  But the real questions is, how many seashells did Sally Sell?  Did you know that Peter Piper is a historical figure? Pierre Poivre was a one-armed French pirate and horticulturist during the mid-1700s. Poivre was notorious for stealing spice nuts (known as “peppers”) from Dutch trade ships, and using them to plant his garden. On at least one occasion he stole half a bushel of nutmegs, which inspired the tongue twister we know and love today.

To celebrate Tongue Twister Day, twist your tongue around the most difficult tongue twister in the English language according to the Guinness Book of World Records six times:  “The sixth sick sheikh’s sixth sheep’s sick.”

★~ Bittersweet Chocolate with Almonds Day:

Make a bittersweet chocolate cake with almonds or indulge in your favorite bittersweet chocolate bar: Sjaks, Green & Black, Valor, Ghirardelli, Alter Eco, Hershey’s.

The last tongue twister about the “Pheasant Plucker,”  reminded me of the jump rope rhyme ,’Hello Operator’…

Miss Susie had a steamboat
the steamboat had a bell
Miss Susie went to heaven
the steamboat went to
Hello operator please give me number nine
and if you disconnect me
I’ll kick you from behind
the refrigerator there was a piece of glass
Miss Susie sat upon it and cut her little
ask me no more questions
tell me no more lies
the boys are in the bathroom zipping up their
flies are in the meadow,
the bees are in the park
Miss Susie and her boyfriend are kissing in the
dark is like a movie
a movie’s like a show
a show is like a tv screen and that is all
i know i know my ma
i know i know my pa
i know i know my sister with the 80 acre alligator bra

Did you jump rope and play clapping games when you were a dumb little kid? If you have a morno moment share with us by leave a comment….Odd Loves Company.

  1. Brrr it is cold here! The extra hour felt good though. I never jumped rope but I do know a few tongue twister…not for Odd sharing though.

    Have a good one!

  2. I’m blown away by that Aussie tennis player’s 142.3 mph ace! Here I’ve been playing forever, and no way could I hit anything near that fast. Jump rope and clapping games as a kid? Absolutely! What girl didn’t? We loved them and had all kinds of rhyming rhythms!
