★~ Today’s Quote: Be curious, not judgmental. Walt Whitman

★~ Rabbit Rabbit:

Today is the last day of the May and you know what that means don’t you?  It’s time to prepare for the first of the month and all that can be yours by simple saying  ”rabbit, rabbit!” The first words out of your mouth on the first day of June must be “rabbit, rabbit.”

~ National Tobacco Day:

Don’t smoke. If you do smoke, quit. The World Health Organization started No Tobacco Day in 1987 to draw global attention to the risks of tobacco

~Complete Sentences Day:

Somewhere amidst instant messages, texting, tweets, status updates and the modern trend of reducing human interaction, traditionalists are worried that we are forgetting how to use complete sentences. WTH! Linguists warn that if we don’t do something about it soon, the complete sentence is going to be FUBAR. And that’s no RFLOL matter. So do your best today to speak and write in complete sentences. K?

~What You Think Upon Grows Day:

Today is Normal Peale’s birthday. Peale was a champion of positive thinking. Our thoughts are very powerful; they are our mental magic wands. What we dwell upon becomes our reality. Just for today, or even half of today (this is hard work), watch your thoughts — how often do you talk about what you want to happen opposed to what you don’t want to happen? How often do you let the media define your reality?

~ National Macaroon Day:

The Macaroon, a flourless cookie. Traditional macaroons are made with flour ground from almonds and leavened egg whites. These cookies are popular among Jewish families, especially during Passover when they cannot cook with flour. It is believed that macaroons originated in Italy. In fact, the word “macaroon” comes from the Italian word for paste, “maccarone.” In 1533, macaroon cookies were brought to France by Italian monks and nuns. Two Benedictine nuns, Sister Marguerite and Sister Marie-Elisabeth, baked and sold the cookies in order to pay for their housing. They became known as the “Macaroon Sisters,” and their cookies became famous throughout Europe.

To celebrate National Macaroon Day, munch a macaroon. Really easy macaroon recipe

I should probably resist, smoking is no laughing matter, but who can resist a little old lady condom joke? Clearly, not me.

Two old ladies were outside their nursing home, having a smoke when it started to rain. One of the ladies pulled out a condom, cut off the end, put it over her cigarette and continued smoking.

Lady 1: “What’s that?”

Lady 2: “A condom. This way my cigarette doesn’t get wet.”

Lady 1: “Where did you get it?”

Lady 2: “You can get them at any drugstore.”

The next day … Lady 1 hobbles herself into the local drugstore and announces to the pharmacist that she wants a box of condoms. The guy looks at her kind of strangely (she is, after all, over 80 years of age), but politely asks what brand she prefers.

Lady 1: “It doesn’t matter as long as it fits a Camel.

If you remember that joke from last year on EL Morno you are probably too young to be reading EL Morno!

It is raining and chilly in Chicago and I love it! I hope it stays this way through the weekend. Cole arrives home tomorrow from his service learning trip (have I mentioned that he is coming home this Friday!) and I know he is very tired of hot weather. I tried not to laugh when he told me he was glad that it was going to rain in NOLA this past weekend because he was looking forward to cooler weather, it seemed cruel not to share his excitement, my poor clueless northern boy.

Have a terrific Thursday. Odd Loves Company!

  1. Good Lord am I the first comment? Where is Mike? Loved the Little Old Lady Joke. I don’t smoke. I can’t stand the taste in my mouth. I guess I always assumed it was illegal for kids to smoke when in fact it’s illegal for them to buy or be sold smokes. Interesting. Now I know.
Love macaroons! I was introduced to them by a friends Jewish granny when we had a tea party one afternoon.
Glad your boy is home tomorrow. New Orleans humidity is a killer.

    • Yep you were the first. Mike is only pouting a little. I have never smoked either, the smell gives me such a headache. I like the idea of macaroons and they are so pretty but have never been fond of the taste.
Yep, boy is home sweet home tomorrow!

  2. My Domer is just like Cole — not particularly fond of the heat and humidity in the Deep South. The farthest south university he even considered was in North Carolina, haha! Never smoked. Glad I didn’t. It’s become an expensive, nasty habit that’s taken far too many lives. Yay, Cole gets home just in time for our cool spell!

    • I have not been able to talk Cole into a real winter coat since he was 4 so I can only imagine what New Orleans was like for him..but you know what they say “that which does not kill you, will make you stronger.” I am pretty sure climate will heavily influence where Cole goes to college! :-D. I’m glad it has cooled off–summer seemed like it was coming much to fast!

  3. People notice when I don’t comment? I hope they don’t think I’m an El Morno Stalker! Where the heck were you?? I have never had a macaroon. I think they are more a girl thing. I stopped smoking years ago and still miss it.
The weather in New Orleans is brutal!
    Have a good one.

    • Does it really matter what other people think? I know you are not an El Morno stalker! A little impatient perhaps at time but certainly NOT stalker!
