Sweet Mother’s Birthday

★~♥~♥~★~ El Morno! ♥~★~★~♥ ~
May 26, 2012

Today is my sweet mother’s birthday. I love that she shares her birthday with John Wayne (1907), Jay Silverheels (1912), the Lone Ranger, James Arness (1923), who played Matt Dillon on Gunsmoke, which was one of my mom’s favorite shows back in the day, and Hank Williams (1949). She also shares her birthday with Sally Ride (1951), the first woman in space.

My mother does not like to fly, but she does enjoy guns, horses, and country music.

My sweet mother hangs her clothes up every single night, no matter what.

My sweet mother’s toe nails are always painted. Always.

Her tennis shoes are always white. Always.

My sweet mother’s favorite browser is Internet Explorer. The AOL man still announces, “you have mail,” and she would find her iPad more useful as a cutting board.

If it’s in the newspaper it is true. Always.

If you don’t make your bed, your day is not going to be as good as it could have been.

Scraps of papers and a calendar are all you need to be organized. Write it down!

Always label it if it’s in the freezer or you will forget. Always!

If the phone goes dead or the cell service has static, or if the door sticks, or the fan does not spin, or the toilet does not flush, or the waterfall lights are out, or God forbid, the key does not open it…FIX IT. Procrastination is not an option.

My sweet mom can charm a pony into a kitchen, a cop out of a ticket, a State Farm agent into covering the false teeth her Great Dane ate, and has friends that will not only show up and help her bury the body, but take her to lunch afterward to celebrate with a Lemon Drop Martini.

My sweet mom does not panic at the sight of blood, broken bones or gushing head injuries, but it better be 5 o’clock somewhere when the bone has been fixed and the blood has been mopped up.

My sweet mom does not understand Lincoln pick-up trucks, and had gay friends long before everyone had one.

My sweet mom would choose Cousin Carla to be her lifeline on the Who Wants to be a Millionaire show, but I would help her pick out her outfit.

Don’t spend it. Save it. Money gives you options. ALWAYS.

Trinket (her Doberman) and Cole (her grandson) may be two of her most favorite things, but I still get to sit by her in the car. Always.

I am glad my sweet mother is my mother, because I have never wanted any other….and to that she would say, “and why would you?”

Happy Birthday to the best mom in the whole and entire world!

We are not celebrating paper airplane day, because my mother does not like airplanes and it is her birthday. We can celebrate tomorrow.

We will celebrate with cheesecake, but not blueberry cheesecake, because my sweet mom loves cheesecake but is not a fan of blueberries, but please don’t let that stop you from topping your cheesecake with blueberries. My sweet mom won’t understand your lack of taste but won’t hold it against you and she won’t make gagging noises.

Camp is barking and wagging this weekend. I do have a story for you that may someday be funny, but I will save it for another post.

Lastly, I heard Cole is on his way to the Louisiana bayous to meet up with a few Cajuns and gators, and I think tonight they are going to dine on authentic Cajun cuisine.

What are you up to this weekend? Hope your weather is as pretty as our weather!

Odd Loves Company!

I think my sweet mom would appreciate my choice of birthday songs…

  5. Happy birthday to your mother. It sure was a great read for her especially since she is enjoying the fact that you know her so well. What an awesome El Morno.

  6. Happy Birthday to your sweet Gemini mother! I just bet she’s got some Virgo placed strategically in her natal chart, though, because most Geminis are more scatter-brained than she appears. Just sayin’! And she’s so right on about the money thing. It does give you options, but only if you have it!

    • Not an ounce of Virgo Debbie. She just doesn’t like to waste time being disorganized when she could be having FUN! Thanks for stopping by…Hope you are getting a break from code and having some FUN yourself!

  7. As you should, you know your dear mother well…so do I..she has been a great friend for many, many years….you have described her perfectly..
    Happy Birthday Marcie..

  8. What a wonderful post about your mom, Katybeth.

Happy (belated) birthday, Marcie. I had cheesecake in your honor, but I guess I should skip the part about it being smothered in blueberries, huh?

  9. Thank you everyone for your nice birthday wishes. I had a wonderfull day.
The false teeth story—my aunt was visiting us in El Paso. She took her false teeeth out before she went to bed. My Great Dane got a hold of them and demolished them. Let me assure you there is NO way to tell someone your dog did their teeth in, NO way!!!!

  10. My Sissy swore she was giving up her birthdays but she fibbed! She has been having such good times on her birthday and getting such wonderful presents she has decided to keep them. I love my birthday and was looking forward to taking over hers when she dropped them but the best laid plan …….

  11. I do believe that Marcie and I are of the same generation. I immediately make my bed the minute I am out of it…That job taken care of I can enjoy the rest of my day. I think we would be very good friends and have a lot of laughs together. Happy belated Birthday Marcie, and many more to come.

    • I have tried not to make my bed but I just can’t…why take the chance. I think my mother and you would enjoy each other…maybe someday we will make that trip to Rockford and take you to lunch at that Chinese food place…of-course I know Monday is tap, and Wednesday is swing.. 😀
