★~♥~♥~★~ El Morno! ♥~★~★~♥ ~
June 21, 2012

I wrote El Morno yesterday and thought I had posted it, but when loyal reader Mike commented on Carolee’s immigration post “What am I supposed to eat today,” I knew something was wrong. And when I looked, I realized what was wrong—no El Morno for June 21. I was like, OMG, how could I forget to hit the publish button and leave El Morno languishing unpublished.

Last night I hosted an impromptu teen fondue party, so perhaps that is why my brain was in unpublished mode. Cole invited three friends over, and since it our tradition to fondue on the solstice, I fixed fondue for them. They had a cheese fondue with vegetables, a steak fondue for a main course, and of course, a chocolate fondue with marshmallows, angel food cake, and fruit for dessert. After I had set it up and taken my pictures, I disappeared into my bedroom and enjoyed listening to their silliness through the door.

Our skies were cloudy this morning, and I could have sworn it was going to rain, but it didn’t rain a drop. Rumor has it that if you hear the call of a cuckoo today, it will be a wet summer—no cuckoo, no rain. Speaking of cuckoos, did you know that the cuckoo’s favorite food is hairy caterpillars and not coco puffs.

Today was skateboard day, and I was so surprised to learn that our El Morno high-heeled, saucy Aussie was skateboarder back in the day: “I used to be a very good skateboarder. My brother and I had to share a bright yellow skateboard, and we would draw up a timetable to avoid too many arguments over who was using it (back in the day when kids shared things and didn’t get everything they wanted). I even learned how to do flips on it, and only grazed my knees once. We both had bikes but only one skateboard. Sometimes we’d ride to the milk bar at the far end of the street, and if one of us rode a bike, we’d pull the other behind us on the skateboard.”  What do you suppose a “milk bar” is? I will ask Aussie Antoinette and let you know.

It’s never too late to enjoy Peaches and Cream Day, so let me share a delicious recipe: take one large fresh peach—peeled, pitted, and sliced—one teaspoon of brown sugar, two tablespoons of sour cream, and one tablespoon of chopped pecans. Place the sliced peach in a small serving dish. Sprinkle with brown sugar, and spoon sour cream on top. Sprinkle with pecans (optional, of course).

Happy Birthday Prince William, who turned 30 today. The party took place at Prince Charles’ countryside residence. Kate planned the dinner party for around 30 of their closest friends, according to British tabloid Metro. On the agenda after dinner, a role-playing murder mystery party, sources told Now Magazine. On Monday, the Queen gifted her grandson with a knighthood. But the biggest gift came from Will’s mum, when the million trust she left for him became accessible on his 30th birthday. Some royal-watchers speculate the money could go towards the purchase of his own country estate.

I will leave you with this link. It does not get a whole lot better than this for a “feel good” any day of the week!

  1. I rated a mention on El Morno? I feel famous. I use to be pretty good on my skateboard it was my main mode of transportation. I was never fond of bike riding for some reason.

  2. That Fondue looks amazing. I’m not sure I would even know where to begin to do something like that, we did go to a birthday party with a chocolate fountain fondue…it did not work very well with 8 year olds. But it was very tasty.
Prince William seems so much older for some reason..Knighthood and 14 million dollars is a nice way to start off a new decade.

    • It’s messy and time consuming but not at all hard if you have a double boiler. It’s fun to do when you have the time and don’t feel rushed.
      William has seemed old forever!

  3. Looks like an interesting fondue party — is that Rascal joining in the festivities?? Like Mike, I was wondering what happened to El Morno. Glad everything’s ok!
