★~ Today’s Quote:  Curiosity is the very basis of education and if you tell me that curiosity killed the cat, I say only the cat died nobly.  Arnold Edinborough

★~  Have you Hugged Your Cat?

El Morno’s official cat is Cheeto.  I think he is very handsome. Rascal is not a fan of Cheeto because he sends her mean facebook messages.  Cheeto belongs to El Morno friend Teresa. Our pets spar, through us, on Facebook. Yes, it is Odd. But then this is an Odd blog made up of Odd family, friends, feline and canine.  I’m also fond of a cat named Ninja that lives happily with Vickie. He lived with me for awhile after he moved into my garage one snowy December night. Its a long story but the bottom line is Vickie bailed me out once again. Bug hugs for all the El Morno cats.

★~ Old Maid’s Day:

And old maid, otherwise known as a spinster, is a woman whose grown old and never married. Typically they’re thought of a being bitter and cranky, and victims of their own fussiness. But I’m not so sure, as our good friend and old neighbor, Mary Newman Mary Newman, use to say, “there are far worst things than being alone.”  Old Maids are pretty darn sneaky letting the world believe they are lonely and lost while they are enjoy being single to it’s fullest.

★~ Cheese Day:

Say ‘Cheese: Why? Because it is Cheese Day of course, and everyone loves Cheese Day. Did you know, cheese is the favorite food of skunks? Put a piece of cheese in your pocket and a skunk will follow you anywhere. The best way to celebrate today is by being devouring something very cheesy. I am going for the grilled cheese sandwich.

★ National Cognac Day:

Why are you putting on that big hat and dark sunglasses? Silly you! It’s not incognito day. It’s Cognac Day. Easy mistake to make. Just put down the hat and sunglasses, and pick up a snifter (a glass, not a Kleenex!) of Cognac instead. Cognac is a sophisticated spirit hailing from the Cognac region of France. Cognac is actually a type of brandy that is double distilled and processed according to strict guidelines. A grade is assigned to Cognac to indicate its quality. Examples include VS for ‘very special’ and XO for ‘extra old.’ Cognac connoisseurs are currently at work on a new grade called OMG!

★~ Today in History:

♥~ 1896 – In a tiny workshop behind his home on 58 Bagley Avenue, Henry Ford put the finishing touches on his gasoline-powered motor car. After more than two years of experimentation, Henry Ford at the age of thirty-two, had completed his first experimental automobile. He dubbed his creation the “Quadricycle,” so named because it ran on four bicycle tires. The success of the little vehicle fueled Ford’s automobile ambitions, leading ultimately to the founding of Ford Motor Company in 1903.

♥~ 1919 – Congress approved the Nineteenth Amendment, giving women the vote.

♥~ 1937 – The Humpty Dumpty supermarket in Oklahoma City introduced the first shopping carts. Store manager Sylvan Goldman decided to boost trade by putting an extra-large shopping basket on wheels. It doubled the store’s business.

★~ Born Today:

♥~ 1928 – Dr. Ruth Westheimer (Karola Ruth Siegel)sex therapist; author; TV celebrity

♥~ 1937 –  Robert Fulghum was born in Waco, Texas. In 1989 he became the first author in history to have both the #1 and #2 books on the New York Times best-seller list: It Was On Fire When I Lay Down On It and All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten.

♥~ 1975 – Angelina Jolie (Voight) Academy Award-winning supporting actress: Girl, Interrupted; Gia, George Wallace, Cyborg 2, Foxfire, Playing by Heart, Tomb Raider, Original Sin; daughter of actor Jon Voight

★~ Did You Know: Odd Tricks to Clean Your Car:

♥~ Hair conditioner for shine: Wash your car with a hair conditioner containing lanolin. You’ll become a believer when you see the freshly waxed look, and when you find that the surface will repel rain.

♥~ Fizz windshields clean with cola: When it rains after a long dry spell, a dirty windshield turns into one big mess. Get rid of streaks and blotches by pouring cola over the glass. (Stretch a towel along the bottom of the windshield to protect hood paint.) The bubbles in the cola will fizz away the grime. Just be sure to wash the sticky cola off thoroughly or your cleaning efforts will end upattracting dust and dirt.

♥~ Shine those car lights: Keep your headlights polished (and yourself, safe) by applying window cleaner and rubbing vigorously with an old pair of panty hose.

♥~ A one-step window cleaner: Clean your windshield and car windows by rubbing them with baby wipes stored in your glove compartment.

♥~ No windshield washing fluid? If the reservoir is empty (and doesn’t it always seem to be?), use an unlikely substitute to clean your windshield: feminine hygiene maxi-pads, a box of which you could stash in the trunk. Hold a pad on the sticky side and rub the windshield vigorously. The glass will really shine once you’ve wiped it to the max.

♥~ Baking-soda car cleaner: Pour 1/4 cup baking soda into a gallon-sized jug, then add 1/4 cup dishwashing liquid and enough water to fill the jug almost to the top. Screw on the cap, shake well, and store the concentrate for later use. When it comes time to wash the car, shake the jug vigorously and then pour 1 cup of cleaner base into a 2-gallon water pail. Fill the pail with warm water, stir to mix, and your homemade cleaning solution is ready to use.

♥~ A surprising no-wax washer: Add 1 cup kerosene to a 3-gallon pail filled with water and then sponge the solution over your car. You won’t have to spray the car before washing or rinse or wax it once you’re done. And the next time it rains, rainwater will bead up and roll off the car, lessening the likelihood of rusting.

♥~ Watch the heat: Washing your car when it’s too hot—right after you’ve been driving it, for example, or when it’s been parked in direct sunlight—can result in soapy splotches and deposits

♥~  According to Consumer Reports, air drying your car—or driving it around while it’s wet—after washing can leave unsightly watermarks on its exterior. Use a chamois or a soft terry cloth, plus a squeegee to soak excess water up—just make sure it doesn’t pick up dirt that can scratch the vehicle.

Hope you have a very Merry Monday! Thanks for dropping in..Odd Loves Company!

If it makes you smile, giggle or laugh…Do it again!

  1. EL Morno!! Great car tips. It’s a pretty good day all around. Good looking cat too.

I’m off Thursday and Friday so it will be a wonderfully short week.

    Have a good one.

  2. Lizzy was in a tizzy this weekend and almost became Lizzy Bordan. Graduations, birthday parties, tried cranky kids and husband. I need that cognac yesterday! Instead of warm beer.
Cheeto is awesome. I think I will go hug my cat and hope for a better day. Kids are done with school and I haven’t a clue what we will do today. It’s a swing week before day camp starts. I hope I don’t start swinging that axe.

  3. Great car washing tips! Not sure about the cola on the window tho….BTW Mary Newman was right. I could not be happier but do you have to tell all on odd??

    • Sorry–from now on your secrets are safe with me! I’m not sure I would pour Cola on my wind shield either—but would the internet lie to us??

  4. Thanks for the car-cleaning tips. However, today looks like rain, so I think I’ll let Mother Nature take over the chore for me! Love Robert Fulghum — didn’t know he was a Texan!

    • Yes mam True Blue Texan! We did not have rain….we have a hand car wash I really like and if I can buy Groupons I let them take over the chore. Hoping for rain while my Mom visits she really misses it living in the Southwest.

  5. Good Looking Cat! I can see why Cheeto would be the El Morno mascot! Of-course I love cheese! Great car tips Kb. You are so useful!
