★~ Today’s Quote: “To me, our relationship makes perfect sense. You want me to propose to you, I propose to you. You say no, I say fine, I never wanna see you again. You drive me nuts telling me you want me to propose again, I do, you turn me down. Next thing I know I’m in a court of law where I’ve got to propose to you or go to jail. It’s the classic American love story.” (Sam (Ted Danson) on Cheers)

★~ Pepper Pot Soup Day:

Pepperpot soup

According to the legend……….. It was during the Revolutionary war, and the Continental army was camped at Valley Forge.  The winter of 1777-1778, was cold and harsh. Conditions were deplorable. Food was often scarce. George Washington asked his army’s chef to prepare a meal for the army, that would both warm them, and boost their moral. The chef found scraps of tripe, small bits of meat and some peppercorn. He mixed this in with some other ingredients, and created Pepper Pot soup, also known as “Philadelphia Pepper Pot soup”. The hot, and somewhat spicy soup, was well received by the troops. It was called “the soup that won the war”.

Celebrate Pepper Pot Day by making or opening a can of Pepper Pot soup for the family Note: while tripe was a main ingredient of this soup, you can substitute with chicken or beef. You could also make Jamaican Pepperpot soup if you can find 2 pounds of pig tails.

♥~ 1999 – Three ferrets named Beckham, Posh Spice and Baby Spice were used to lay power cables for a rock concert being held in Greenwich, London, England, (workers were not allowed to dig up the turf at the Royal Park). Organizers found that rods could not push the cables through the tiny tunnels, which frequently bend and dog-leg. The ferrets were eased into tiny nylon harnesses with wires which where then attached to a rope, the animals ran into a series of ducts which were under the stage like rabbit runs, leading the cables with them. The ferrets instinctively make for any hole in the ground and are enticed to the end of the duct by a slab of smelly meat. The New Years Eve concert featured Simply Red, Eurythmics and Bryan Ferry.

Little known fact, my Aunt Judi attended the Waltons 40th Anniversary! Yes. Really. I don’t have any of her pictures handy (soon) but she did post this message on her Facebook page: “Had a wonderful time at the Walton’s 40th Anniversary Celebration! Actually shook hands with Ralph Waite and got pictures of lots of the cast on the Red Carpet. Also met other people just like me….crazy about the show!!!”  What can I say except my family is the wind beneath my Odd.

This year I planted my Paperwhites a little later so so they would bloom for the New Year. It looks like I timed it right. See picture at the top of the post.  They are such hopeful flowers and they smell so good. My Amaryllis is just on the verge of blooming! Soon to be red and awesome!

Camp is tail wagging good.

I hope to head back outside today, with my camera, for some more pictures and on Sunday we’ll shoot my Christmas card which this year will be my New Years card. Some years are like that, ya know? Ya Know?

  1. Morno,
I tried Pepperpot soup (Campbell) last year. It wasn’t bad. Those pictures make me feel old. Ted Dansen was funny in Cheers but Carla could really pack a zinger. Great Show. Hard to believe it has been 30 years. The video of the campers is cute. What are those really fuzzy dogs called?
    Have a good one.

    • I think you mean Leo (White/Fawn) and Clover (greyish) they are Bouvier des Flandres. Fancy name but they are hard working dogs and love to herd. They also love to clown around…..
Carla was too funny especially when Diane was her target. Enjoy your day!

  2. MORNO!!!
I would love to have gone to the Walton reunion! I love that show. I have been visiting family for the holidays and have limited internet. Looks like you had a really nice Christmas. We did too. Now I am back home and off work until the 4th. It’s been a great holiday and still seems to be going strong.
    Good to catch up!!

    • I guess everyone dreams of “Walton Moments” Welcome back. Isn’t nice to have more vacation afte your vacation? I always loved that when I was working in an office.
      Enjoy your day!

  3. You’ve got Paperwhites coming up already? Wow, you must have a green thumb. We’re buried under about 1.5 inches of snow, and the flurries are drifting down as I write. Want us to send some north?! That Gerber Baby makes a “cute” 85-year-old, too!

    • I plant my paperwhites inside in the middle of December…I love the smell and they are so easy to grown with pebbles, water and some mason jars. We have had constant snow flurries for the past few days but no accumulation.
      The Gerber baby is cute!
