★~  Record Store Day:

While most people are downloading and listening to music on ipods and through online streaming sites like Pandora and Spotify these days — there’s nothing like spending a day in a record store.
Created in 2007 at a gathering of independent record store owners, National Record Store Day is intended to “celebrate and spread the word about the unique culture surrounding over 700 independently owned record stores in the US and thousands of similar stores internationally,” according to RecordStoreDay.com.
Held every third Saturday in April, participating independent record stores across the country offer special vinyl and CD releases and other items are made exclusively for the day.

For a list of participating stores, visit Record Store Day. A special shout to Oak Park, Il Val’s Halla Records.

 ★~Lima Bean Respect Day:

lima-beans

Butter Beans have got their place
Northerns have a certain grace
Black and Pinto, oh they too
Will get you where you’re going to.
Limas though…my love is true
The flavor sweet, the perfect hue
Aroma knocks me off my can
I’m proud to be a Lima man!

Lima beans. They get no respect. No respect at all. None! But today, we are going to give this vegetable its due and acknowledge these fiber-, magnesium-, and protein-packed legumes. Pass the Lima Beans, please!

★~Pineapple Upside Down Cake Day:

Pineapple-upside-down-cake

After you eat all your lima beans, let’s have pineapple upside down cake. Pineapple upside down cake is made with the topping placed at the bottom while the cake batter is poured on the top. The topping typically consists of canned or fresh pineapple rings; some people like to put maraschino cherries in the center of the rings. Now doesn’t that sound yummy in your tummy? Dark-Tales-Edgar-Allan-Poes-Murders-in-the-Rue-Morgue_1

♥~ 1841- Edgar Allan Poe published “The Murders in the Rue Morgue,” the firsr detective story.  In the story, C. August Dupin reads about the murder of a mother and daughter in a Paris street. The police are baffled, and Dupin decides to offer up his services. He finds a hair at the crime scene that he realizes does not belong to a human, and eventually he pieces together enough evidence to solve the case: The murder was committed by an orangutan who had been held in captivity by a sailor, who murdered the first woman with a straight razor and the second by strangling her. Poe wrote two more stories featuring the detective C. August Dupin,: “The Mystery of Marie Rogêt” (1842) and “The Purloined Letter” (1844).

♥~1931 – The great Knute Rockne died in a plane crash on March 31, 1931.Twenty days later, Jesse Harper became the new athletic director and Heartley ‘Hunk’ Anderson took over as coach of Notre Dame. Anderson coached the Fighting Irish from 1931-33. Elmer Layden replaced Anderson from 1934-1940 and Frank Leahy coached Notre Dame twice — from 1941-1943 and from 1946-1953.

♥~1957- Elvis Presley started an eight week run at No.1 on the US singles chart with ‘All Shook Up.’ It went on to be the biggest single of 1957 selling over 2 million copies.

♥~1959: Singer George Jones scored his first #1 country hit with “White Lightnin.” He had recorded earlier as Hank Smith and Thumper Jones.

♥~1979 – Johnny Carson was said to be leaving The Tonight Show. Newspapers around the country gave details about why the comedian and late-night host was said  to be unhappy after 17 years on the show. Guess what? More moola, more vacation time and a four-day week (not working Mondays) was enough for the ‘Great Carsoni’ to hang around NBC for another 12 years…

♥~1986 – Michael Jordan of the Chicago Bulls scored a record 63 points in an NBA playoff loss (including two overtime periods) to the Boston Celtics

♥~1991 –  Kennesaw, Georgia, unveiled the street sign that would mark its new General Norman Schwartzkopf Avenue. They misspelled Schwarzkopf.

♥~1991: The Hastings Reminder in Michigan reported the marriage of Michelle Johnson and David Wax, both of Kentwood. The photo caption was, of course, Johnson-Wax.

★~ Did You Know:

MEERKAT

♥~ NEW PSY SONG BANNED FROM SOUTH KOREA’S BIGGEST TV NETWORK: The new video for the song “Gentleman” from PSY will not be shown on the Korean Broadcasting System. Is it because of the language? The rude mischief in the video? Is it because of the many commercial product placements? No, the reason is that in the video, PSY kicks over a traffic cone. That is destroying public property, and may set a bad example.

♥~ SIX-YEAR-OLD GOES OUT FOR CHINESE FOOD: Motorists were surprised to see a child driving along the road in Lapeer, Michigan, early Saturday morning. According to Sgt. Andy Engster of the local sheriff’s office, motorists boxed in the child and his car and called police. They found a 6-year-old who had taken the family car. When police asked the boy why he took the car, he told them he was going to get Chinese food. He had hit a “no left turn” sign on Park and Pine streets near his home and, seeing the damage to the car, decided he needed to head to the dealer to get it repaired.

♥~ SAUDI ARABIA DEPORTS MEN FOR BEING TOO HANDSOME: A group from the United Arab Emirates traveled to Saudi Arabia for a cultural festival in Riyadh. They weren’t doing anything out of the ordinary when three men were seized by members of the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice, the nation’s religious police. They were deported back to Abu Dhabi for being too handsome, in fears that women would find them irresistible. A statement from the Emirates noted that the religious police may have been on high alert at the time. There are no pictures of the handsome men.

♥~ CHIHUAHUA FOSTERS MEERKAT: Wilson the meerkat was born at Mablethorpe Seal Sanctuary & Animal Gardens in Mablethorpe, England. He was rejected by his mother as the runt of the litter. What do do? Sanctuary owner Dennis Drew tried hand-rearing the tiny meerkat, but knew he needed help. But when he overheard staff member Leanne Clark, 22, talk about her pet Chihuahua who was going through a phantom pregnancy Dennis had a bright idea. He introduced Wilson to Leanne’s dog Kimi – who was lactating as part of her phantom pregnancy – and was amazed when the meerkat fed from her. Within days Wilson became bigger and stronger and Kimi took over as mother believing the meerkat was her own puppy. After nearly two months together, the pair have forged an inseparable bond. The plan is to eventually re-introduce Wilson to his meerkat family. The maternal Kimi may have a future as a foster mother for the sanctuary.

♥~ ICELAND UNVEILS APP TO AVOID INCEST: The population of Iceland is only 320,000 people, and most of them are distantly related. When you meet someone new, there is a risk of accidental incest. But a new smartphone app has been introduced to minimize that risk. The Islendiga-App (App of Icelanders) will access an online database of Icelandic family trees to determine how closely any two residents are related. And all they have to do is touch their phones together. The app is marketed with the slogan ““Bump the app before you bump in bed.”

Odd fact about me,  I’m more of fan of lima beans than I am Pineapple Upside Down Cake. Pineapple Upside Down Cake is a really pretty cake.  I always have a taste when one is served and I’m always surprised when I don’t care for it. Maybe, it’s the cooked Pineapple.

It is NOT raining in Chicago. I just needed to type that, Thank you. I will be back later with  Weekend Odds and Ends and more Shoe Reviews. It will be a busy Odd weekend.  What are your weekend plans?

  1. I beat Mike? How is that possible. Love Lima beans with butter and salt. Pineapple Upside Down Cake is tasty, but I wouldn’t order it out.
Feel like I will live today, so I might venture out to the grocery store, however Home Sweet Home is where I will spend most of my day.
Today’s quote is a good one.
    Hope you day stays dry.

    • You are Número Uno this morno. Glad you are feeling better and planning to take it easy. You love Lima Beans!! I’m glad, someone has too.
We did stay dry and the sun even came out!

  2. Morno,
Hi Geri ^. My new coffee pot is acting odd. Pineapple Upside Down cake is one of my favorites. No Sunday night dinner tomorrow, but I am might be able to talk my sis into making it next week, a little guilt for leaving me high and dry this weekend. I don’t mind Lima beans.
I better cancel my plans to visit Saudi Arabla.
    Have a good one.

    • Oh no, you didn’t get a cuppa this morno? Hope you fixed that problem.
Do Not Go To Saudi Arabia…they would put you in jail and throw the key away. 😀

  3. Good Morno,
Aren’t Lima Beans the bean the kids grow in a cup? I always love that experiment because it never disappointed anyone. Beyond growing them, I can’t imagine anyone in my house actually eating them. Not sure if I even remember what they taste like.
    Pineapple Upside Down Cake. YUM.
I’m so glad none of my kids have taken the car for a spin. The story does make me think about keeping car keys out of reach.
Kids birthday party today, and date night for hubby and me with friends, and the kids have a sleep over at their grandparents house. Great weekend all the way around.
    See you later croc-adile.

    • I think they were the “cup beans” that grew like the bean stalk Jack climbed. You are right those beans always grew, no matter what.
Hope you had a wonderful night out!

  4. R.I.P. Coach. One of the good guys!
Lima beans? Nope. Never. Won’t touch ’em. I don’t care how good they might be for you. I’ll get my vitamins elsewhere, thank you very much!
Pineapple upside down cake is all right. Not my favorite, but I’ll eat it. And you’re right — warm pineapple is just wrong. I prefer this cake chilled.
Sunny here. If we can ford the waters, Sheltie and I want to take a walk.

    • Sunny here too, but the temp is a little nippy. Did you ever grow a Lima bean plant? I don’t think you have to eat what you don’t like to eat healthy, but would you try one if it was called a butter bean 😀

  5. just a rousing yay for record store day! i can’t bring myself to part with my lps & 45s even though the turntable & components are long gone. i always envision buying new & may some day. nothing beats album cover art or liner notes!

    • I have a stack of Joe’s old Albums..Rock. A lot of Grateful Dead, and Morrison. Cole might want to use some of the art someday. I could never part with them or sell them. I wasn’t into much of the music, but I did love the covers.
