★~ Dog Days of Summer: Jul 3- August 11

The official “dog days” of summer begin on July 3 and end on August 11. So how did this time frame earn its canine nickname? It turns out the phrase has nothing to do with the poor pooches who are forever seeking shade in the July heat, and everything to do with the nighttime sky.

Sirius, the Dog Star, is the brightest star in the sky. The ancient Greeks noticed that in the summer months, Sirius rose and set with the Sun, and they theorized that it was the bright, glowing Dog Star that was adding extra heat to the Earth in July and August.

★~ Stay Out of the Sun Day:

Tanning

Along with the stifling heat, July also brings a scorching sun. The Mayo Clinic reports “melanoma rates among young women are eight-times higher than they were 40 years ago.” Stay Out of the Sun Day is a reminder to keep safe by protecting ourselves from the sun’s rays. You should stay out of direct sunlight whenever possible and when it isn’t, be sure to protect yourself with quality sunscreen.

★~ Compliment your Mirror Day:

Stand in front of your mirror, with your eyes closed. Put a smile on your face…a BIG smile. Now, open your eyes. Isn’t the picture of the person in your mirror absolutely stunning?!?

★~ Eat Beans Day!

Beans

Vegans, Vegetarians, Flexitarians, and fans of legumes, today we celebrate “Eat Beans Day,” in your honor! Pass the Bacon and Bean, please.

Did you know . . .

  1. enjoyed the videos especially dogs on the beach. wasn’t expecting a tiny poodle on a boogie board!
i imagine you are hopping with your four legged guests this holiday weekend. do you have good weather? we actually had rain last night…..0% chance, too! it’s the little things in life….
1st ride in bug……looking forward to that. didn’t realize it ran.
    good day!

    • Those poodles can really Boogie. Barking weekend and I have a four pound camper that has decided he wants no part of camp, no part of Vickie and no part of me….he will just fang us and be on his way Thank you too much. Bless his heart. We are working it out.
Into every life a little rain must fall!
The Bug needs the carb tuned but it can make it for short distances. Cole ordered a carb kit last night on Amazon. And would you listen to me sounding like I know what the heck I am talking about?

  2. Enjoy the “dry”weather that we have at the “moment”. Need winter woolies on this morning. Bout froze last night walking Miz Millie. Paint class this a.m. for 3 hours, so will be inside all that time. No plans for the 4th but will be watching the crazy people on the toll road inching and sitting and inching again as they make their way to Wisconsin. They sure have a lot more patience then I have to tolerate that kind of travel. Could probably walk to your destination faster than driving. I will just sit here and shake my head at these people who don’ t realize there are other roads to travel on!

    • Share your painting efforts with us! I still have my Christmas card! Funny about watching the crazy people…my dad would get such a kick out of doing that! My Mom too.

  3. Morno,
Early bird Dentist appointment. Lots going on today on El Morno. I’m pretty humble when I look in the mirror. I know that handsome devil starring back at me couldn’t be the real me. I like spicy pinto beans. Golf hat helps keep me cool, and the glare out of my game. Finally found a sun screen that isn’t greasy.
End of the week today. Looking forward to a long weekend of barbecuing, and napping. Maybe a few fireworks and a movie if I’m feeling ambitious.
    Have a good one.

    • Sounds like you have the ideal four day weekend planned. So glad your mirror does not suffer from self esteem issues!!

  4. This might be Dog Days and Wear Sunscreen Days, but not here in Central Illinois. We awoke to a thick fog and cool 60 degrees; even as I type this, it’s cloudy and only 64. I’ve got my sunscreen on, but unless it warms up A LOT, it won’t be very necessary.
You’ve already ridden in the Bug? Yeah, bet it was fun! What a neat project Cole has chosen.
Happy Hump Day — have you seen that cute camel in the Geico ad that talks about Hump Day??

    • Its been cool here all week. Loving it. I will hope for warmer temps in July for all those warm weather folks that are looking forward to warmer temps knowing I have to suffer one month less. Rain is a bit of a pain but my yard looks great 😀
I haven’t seen the camel in the Geico commercial. I am going straight to You Tube to take a look see!
