★~ Cake Decorating Day:

Cake Decorating Day is all about pink rose!  I love pink icing roses!    Celebrating today is a piece of a cake,  just bake a cake and decorate it. Or just buy a decorated cake. Or buy a fake decorated cake. Check out  El Morno Friend Nancy’s sister-in-laws fake cake web site.  (I could have such fun with a fake cake–possibilities are endless)

Today, wither you decorate a cake, buy a decorated cake, or fake a baked decorated cake — you can have your cake and eat it too.

★~ National Angel Food Cake Day:

Angel food cake iced with whipped cream and covered in strawberries is my favorite cake. Fluffy, light, moist . . . heavenly! I buy the cake at the grocery store and ice it at home, but I have also been known to eat it plain on my way home from the grocery store. I have tried to make them from scratch with less than spectacular results. Polish your halo and have a piece of angel food cake today!

When the book was originally submitted to various magazines, including The Atlantic and The New Yorker, it was dismissed and did not even make The New York Times bestseller list. My sweet Mother who is on her way to the Doberman Nationals (Dog showing-keep your fingers and toes crossed for all good things)  in California, is known for being a most excellent cake baker–far and wide. Me? I eat cake really well.

Last night Cole (studying Russian Literature) asked me if I knew any funny Leo Tolstoy quotes—you know, the man who wrote War and Peace and considered it light reading. It was a challenge, but the quote of the day ^ comes close to being funny if you have an odd sense of humor. Thank you, El Morno and Facebook friend, Hawk for rising to the occasion when I presented this challenge to you.

Sorry we missed celebrating moldy cheese day yesterday. I will make it up to you! Promise.  Has this week been long or is it me?

  1. Morno,
It’s going to be tough to make up moldy cheese day. Real tough.
Has anyone ever read War and Peace? My parents had it in the library, but I’m not sure it was ever read.
My Mom decorated cakes for different occasions. M&Ms were used a lot and she had device that made roses that was fun to suck the icing out of when she finished.
Tape hack is a good one.
This week has been a month long. Have a good one.

    • I know it will be hard, but I will try. If you have M&Ms and enough icing you can decorate anything to perfection. I have a rose thingy but it always gets jammed and it’s so sticky. I might have sucked the icing out a time or two….not telling. Maybe you should take a decorated cake to Sunday dinner.
      Week is almost over!

  2. Love the tape and splinter hacks — gotta remember those!
Yes, this has been a super-long week. I’m not sure exactly why. It’s unfortunate that I have sooo much to do, yet very little get-up-and-go to do it! Must be Fall winding down and preparing for Winter (that, or Mercury turning Retrograde pretty soon!)
Good luck to your mom’s Dobie. I’m sure it will do just fine (and probably enjoy a change-of-scenery).
I love angel food cake. Iced, too!

    • Cole loves to remove splinters from anyones hand or foot that will let him get close enough with a tweezers. Joe was well known for being a splinter remover–and a fish hook remover (long story) so I think he wants to take after his dad. He is okay at it or maybe better than ok but he has practiced on me and is ornery if I whine the least little bit. So I was very happy to find this tip and have it on good authority that it works!
Hope you were able to catch up and will be able to play a little over the the three day weekend! Thank you Columbus.

  3. I like eating already decorated cakes. Angel food cake is not one of my favorites. A texture thing again.
    Great tips today! Very doable.
Good luck Marcie & Trinket at Nationals! Things have been clicking for Trinket lately.
    Good day!

    • I would agree eating the decorate cake is best! Show starts tomorrow, and I received a phone call from my Mom today that they made it to Paloma and because of a room snafu they were upgraded to a fabulous suite! I think it is a sign!

  4. Morno,
Yum, Angel food cake. Homemade is best but even the grocery store already made ones are really good after you ice it and add fruit. I would love to take a cake decorating class–someday.
The hacks were great, now if only there was a hack that helped me keep track of the tape.
Very long week! Good luck to your Mom. California will be beautiful this time of year.

    • I know what you mean about the tape. Ours is always missing or we are out.
Do you have a three day weekend?
