★~ Today’s Quote: All happy family resemble one another, each unhappy family is unhappy in its own way. Leo Tolystoy
★~ Cake Decorating Day:
Cake Decorating Day is all about pink rose! I love pink icing roses! Celebrating today is a piece of a cake, just bake a cake and decorate it. Or just buy a decorated cake. Or buy a fake decorated cake. Check out El Morno Friend Nancy’s sister-in-laws fake cake web site. (I could have such fun with a fake cake–possibilities are endless)
Today, wither you decorate a cake, buy a decorated cake, or fake a baked decorated cake — you can have your cake and eat it too.
★~ National Angel Food Cake Day:
Angel food cake iced with whipped cream and covered in strawberries is my favorite cake. Fluffy, light, moist . . . heavenly! I buy the cake at the grocery store and ice it at home, but I have also been known to eat it plain on my way home from the grocery store. I have tried to make them from scratch with less than spectacular results. Polish your halo and have a piece of angel food cake today!
★~ Today in History:
♥~ 1845 – The U.S. Naval Academy opened in Maryland at Annapolis. Commodore Matthew Perry helped establish the academy, years before he traveled to Japan to open formal relations between the U.S. and the Japanese.
♥~1886 – Tuxedo Anniversary:Griswold Lorillard of Tuxedo Park, NY, fashioned the first tuxedo for men by cutting the tails off a tailcoat. (George Clooney wears a tux well…don’t you think?)
♥~ 1956 – An 11,000-carat emerald was found in northern Transvaal, South Africa. The hugh gem was discovered by Charles Kempt and J. Botes.
♥~ 1961 – Joseph Heller’s Catch-22 was published. When the book was originally submitted to various magazines, including The Atlantic and The New Yorker, it was dismissed and did not even make The New York Times bestseller list. Even among the elitist literary circles, it was snubbed. Despite this initial lukewarm reception, the popularity of Catch-22 soared among the masses.
♥~ 1966 – The game of Twister was introduced by the Milton Bradley Company.
♥~ 1973 – Spiro Agnew became the second U.S. Vice President to resign. He pled “no contest” to a charge of failing to report money he had been paid as a bribe while serving as governor of Maryland. Agnew’s resignation led to the first use of the 25th Amendment to fill a vacancy in the office of vice president.
★~ Born Today:
♥~ 1958 – Tanya Tucker singer: US country singer, 1991 Country Music Association singer of the year. Best known for her debut hit ‘Delta Dawn’ which she released when she was 13. She has topped the US country music charts 10 times. Starred in her own fly-on-the-wall TV show, Tuckerville, in 2005.
★~ Did You Know: Tip Thursday
I love these videos! And because I know you love good tips here are three more that PASS. The pillow hack is a plus minus.
My sweet Mother who is on her way to the Doberman Nationals (Dog showing-keep your fingers and toes crossed for all good things) in California, is known for being a most excellent cake baker–far and wide. Me? I eat cake really well.
Last night Cole (studying Russian Literature) asked me if I knew any funny Leo Tolstoy quotes—you know, the man who wrote War and Peace and considered it light reading. It was a challenge, but the quote of the day ^ comes close to being funny if you have an odd sense of humor. Thank you, El Morno and Facebook friend, Hawk for rising to the occasion when I presented this challenge to you.
Sorry we missed celebrating moldy cheese day yesterday. I will make it up to you! Promise. Has this week been long or is it me?
Odd Loves Company!
