★~ Today’s Quote:  “… Every time you use waffle words, back off from a clear statement of values and priorities and most of all, think about what’s likely instead of what’s possible, you are selling yourself out. Not just selling yourself out, but doing it too cheaply. Own your dreams. There is no better way to make them happen.” – Seth Godin, On Owning It

Although it is most likely just a myth, the history of the croissant is a colorful tale full of adventure. In 1683, the Turkish Empire laid siege on Vienna, Austria. The Turks made several attempts to enter the city by force but were unsuccessful, so they decided to dig an underground tunnel. The bakers of Vienna, who worked in basement storerooms, heard the sound of digging and alerted the army.

The bakers received high honors and thanks for their assistance in outwitting the Turks. In celebration, they baked their bread in the shape of a crescent moon—the symbol of the Ottoman Empire. After the Turks were defeated, it became customary to serve morning coffee with the crescent-shaped pastry!

The legend goes on to say that over a hundred years later, Marie Antoinette introduced the pastry to the French, who dubbed it a “croissant.” To celebrate National Croissant Day, warm up a delicious croissant and enjoy it with a generous helping of butter. Yum!

I could watch this commercial a 100 more times and each time my eyes would tear up immediately. It’s just so darn cute.

and of-course lets not forget this one from last year

The only way I got through it was imaging the Clydesdale went home with his trainer.

I can’t wait to see all the Superbowl Commercials. Except of-course the Audi one, as the DPCA is my witness, I promise to boo and hiss! In fact, Cole may sell his car in protest. Ha.

This morno, I finally had my aching breaking foot looked at and was officially diagnosed with plantar fasciitis for $175.00. The doc sent me directly to the New Balance store to buy running shoes with inserts for $154.00 and told me to wear them in the house and to never go barefoot. I was also told to continue the stretches I had been doing, run my foot over a frozen orange juice can, ice a couple times a day and take the $26.00 anti-inflammatory once a day. I guess, I have very high arches which is rather rare. I can’t wait to share with my son who has the rare extra rib. In any case, while it may take time, I am on the road to walking instead of hobbling. Amen, Hallelujah.

Hope you’ve enjoyed your Thursday. See you in the Morno!

  1. Afternoon,
We missed Croissant Day? That hurts.
I like clear, short vm messages and I like people to leave clear short, slow messages with their phone number. I also want to know who I have reached. My kids voice mails trip me up all the time and my daughter can hold a 20 minutes conversation on my voice mail and still leave me wondering why she called.
Budweiser always has good commercials. They have to since their beer isn’t all that good.
Glad you have a plan for your foot hope it continues to mend.
    See you in the morno.

    • I’m sorry but my foot hurt more and I write El Morn in real time. I’ll give you a three day pass for a Croissant do over.
Funny about your daughter I have people who leave messages like that and I suspect I do too—get carried away and start to babble on. But I always live my phone number right away and again at the end of the message.
Can’t not like Budweiser with commercials that good!

  2. Love those Clydesdale commercials..yes, of course they both had happy endings, for sure.. I hate that Audi/Doberman commercial..what were they thinking ??
Hope the foot feels better, fast.

    • Well obviously they failed to think!! I’m looking forward to more Superbowl commercials except for, you know, and then I will switch stations immediately!

  3. Nighto,
This is the first time I’ve been on the computer all day. Sigh. Atlanta has been a mess. Fortunately we stayed home but schools were open until the early dismissal when everyone left at once. Main problem was all the contradictions. People were so confused and Atlanta looked so stupid on the news. Kids loved it of-course.
Croissant on the breakfast menu for the weekend. Pillsbury popping fresh. Love the Budweiser commercials. I’m looking forward to SuperBowl Sunday. We are having another family over and just having snacks. It’s always a fun get together.
Better check e-mails before my computer time is up.
    TTFN

    • I’m glad you are safe and sound and warm and toasty along with your loved ones. I know it always looks worse on television but still that grid lock and ice looked awful! I lived in Memphis during an ice storm and I still remember thinking I could drive on it slowly. Ha. Thank god I never got out of the apartment parking lot.
Glad thinks are sorting out for your city! We are looking forward to Sunday, too!

  4. Good for you in getting that foot professionally attended to. Yes, it takes feet a short while to get used to orthotics. Now you’re on the road to recovery!
That animal commercials always get me, too. Good job Bud. Have not seen the Audi/Dobe yet. Cannot begin to imagine.
The accident vm……part of me believes it is staged. How can the guy be so descriptive as all the action happens? Guess there are people who are able to think comically on their feet. In his case, on his duff. Regardless, it is hilarious!

    • I know right? It felt so much better today. The shoes are hot tho. Your right, they will take getting use too. I never wear shoes unless I have too.
It may have been staged..but either way it so amuses me.
The Audi/Dobe commercial…I made the mistake of thinking it might be a little bit funny at first. I WAS WRONG. WRONG.

  5. Oh, HERE you are! I checked most of the day and never saw El Morno, so I guessed you weren’t posting. Better late than never, huh?
So sorry about your foot, but, despite the expense, that probably was just what you needed — professional advice, special shoes, meds, and exercises. Here’s hoping you’ll be back on your feet again soon!
Yup, Budweiser does the BEST ads — tear-jerkers, all of ’em!

    • I was so late. But I hate missing a day–then my calendar has a big empty on it and I’ve messed up my track record. Your a Virgo you understand.
Thanks, my foot has hurt so bad for so long I hardly knew how to act when the inflammatory kicked in and it felt better. I’m not doing the two-step yet but I really never did the two-step so that’s okay.
