★~   Teacher Appreciation Week

Teachers Appreciation, Nurses Day, No Diet Day, Crêpes Suzette Day

It’s Teacher Appreciation week with today being the primary Thank You day!  Teachers play a key role in student success and sometimes a simple “thanks” is all a teacher needs to feel valued. Of-course, tokens of your appreciation are nice too. And if the token reflects an interest the teacher has beyond teaching your kid—even better.  What teaching is and isn’t,  Goodies for teachers  (they may be more “goodies” locally).

★~ National Nurses Day:

Save one life, and you’re a hero! Save a hundred lives, and you’re a NURSE!  Celebrated annually on May 6 to raise awareness of the important role nurses play in society. It marks the beginning of National Nurses Week, which ends on May 12, the birthday of Florence Nightingale. Shout out to all my nurse family members and friends!

★~ No Diet Day:

Mary Evans Young a British feminist in started No Diet Day in 1992, as a way to celebrate body acceptance and body shape diversity and a day dedicated to raising awareness of the dangers of dieting.  The Body Image Coalition recommends: Celebrate your natural size, eat well and be physically active every day,  Pay others a compliment based on something other than weight-related qualities, Don’t compare your body to others. Avoid fad diets and eat healthily, Help young people understand that the image of beauty portrayed in the media are not normal. And have a Funonion every once in awhile…

★~ Crepes Suzette Day:

I love, love, love, Crepes Suzette! My sister-in-law and brother-in-law make the best Crepes Suzettes in the whole world. Really. Crepes are delicious, thin French pancakes; crepes Suzette are pancakes topped with an orange liqueur sauce and ignited momentarily with flame. And Suzette? Some say she was the princess of Monaco and first recipient of this fabulous dessert. Crêpes Suzette Recipe

Food trucks are so 2013. Now, anybody who’s anybody gets their grilled cheese delivered by parachute. According to Fast Company, a company in Melbourne, Australia has opened a restaurant where cheesy sandwiches are delivered to the street via parachute. The owners of Jafflechutes (the Australian name for grilled cheese is “jaffles”) call it a “gravity controlled melted cheese delivery system.” Pay ahead using paypal, stand on the X on the street below the restaurant, high in a sky scraper, and look up for your floating lunch.

Word on the street is Jafflechutes is expanding to New York City!

I would want to be on the street corner with my drink and chips cart!

Hope you have a terrific Tuesday! And the good news is if it isn’t terrific you can always rant about it because today is RANT Tuesday.

First ” Real Me” reviews will be out sometime today. More than likely after 5pm. You still have time to submit a picture but not much time.

  1. No Diet Day is my kind of day. In fact, I’m afraid it’s my every day these days. Not good. I hate to be out of the loop, but Sara has been sick and I’ve been away from my laptop, so I don’t know about this photo thing. Darn!

Merry May to you, my friend. Hope your week is going well so far!

    Hugs from Ecuador,
    Kathy

    • I hope Sarah feels better. I’ll be posting the reviews with the pictures and you can see how it works. If you want to send a picture—see one and if not there is always next year.

It would help if diet food was more tasty!

  2. Lots of good thing to appreciate today. Teachers and Nurses. Important jobs without near enough recognition.
No diet day works for me. Although I’ve been indulging a lot lately. I tell myself I’ll work it on the golf course. A little aerobic jog between holes. However, my friends undermine me by insisting we take a cart. I try.
    Parachuting sandwiches. Interesting concept.

    • Maybe you could jog along side the cart? Just a thought. I would love to see how the sammie drop actually works.

  3. Sandwiches that parachute from above?? What will “they” think of next?
This is a great day to recognize teachers and nurses. I’ll add my Thank You to yours.
I’ve never had Crepes Suzette, but it sounds interesting. A day for NOT dieting also does — maybe I should celebrate with lunch out?? Yes, I think I will!

    • Right!! Such an odd and crazy idea.
I can’t imagine anyone not liking Crêpes Suzette. I hope you enjoyed your lunch out!

  4. I LOVE the Jafflechutes. Leave it to those Aussies to come up with such a great idea!!! I doubt that it would fly in Mason City but thanks for the heads up. 🙂 (Aren’t you glad I am back?)

  5. Kudos to teachers & nurses!
Listening to Bob Seger brings me back to MI.
No work tomorrow……fever, sore throat, somewhat achy.
    Good night…
