Banana Cream Pie Day, Same Old Stuff Day

People have been making pies filled with cream, pudding, and custard since the Medieval times. Similar inventions from that era include Napoleons, cream puffs, and éclairs. Bananas arrived in the United States in the 1880s. By the early 1900s, banana recipes appeared in every major cookbook across the country. Traditional banana cream pie recipes call for a crust made out of graham crackers or pastry dough; a layer of sliced bananas; a custard filling made with eggs, milk, sugar, and vanilla; and a topping of whipped cream or meringue. Common embellishments include pecans or drizzles of chocolate and caramel. Old Fashion Banana Creme Pie.

One of the biggest reasons people get stuck in a rut, bored by their lives and doing the same old thing instead of taking action to change their lives for the better, is simply that the process is uncomfortable. Today we are invited to push the “old stuff” in our lives to the side and try something new.

And what will happen when you try something new? I am so glad you asked….“You’ll be on your way up! You’ll be seeing great sights! You’ll join the high fliers who soar to high heights….Oh the places you’ll go!  And “Will you succeed? Yes, you will indeed. (98¾% guaranteed.)” Dr. Seuss—sort of.

I love Dr. Seuss! I can still recite most of Green Eggs and Ham by heart. Not exactly a life skill unless you are stuck in traffic with a cranky 3 year old. BUT when that does happen, it’s one of the most important life skills you ever learned.

Happy March! Rabbit Rabbit! I know, I’m a day late. The story of my life, these days. But I am here, you are here, Monday is here (oh god, lets go back to bed!) and that is all that counts, right? Right! Have a most wonderful day!

  1. Morno,
    March already. Time flies.
Boston Cream pie looks good. We might have to indulge at the office. It has been AWHILE.
The dress was blue and gold. Any fool could see that. I read a lot of Dr. Seuss books back in the day to my kids I enjoyed the entertaining easy read. The Cat In The Hat was a favorite.
    Have a good one.

    • It has been AWHILE. I am struggling get back into the El Morno mode.
Uhm, the dress….blue and gold was never even an option it was blue and black. Mike? Did you look at the picture?
Loved the Cat In The Hat. Thing 1 and Thing 2 were the best.

  2. I loved Dr. Seuss when I was a kid (still do, actually!), and I read a lot of his stuff to Domer. Yes, being able to recite Dr. Seuss to a cranky 3-year-old in the car ranks right up there with being able to juggle a bazillion-and-one things at once!

Not a fan of bananas, as you know. Perhaps I can modify today’s pie to lemon or chocolate??

Still surprised at the interest in that dumb dress. As for the cat, maybe it’s a tabby or calico in disguise!!

    Hope you’re feeling better!

    • Modification is always allowed to fit one’s taste. I’m not overly fond of rules.
One of Cole’s art teachers posted a fascinating piece on color and how we see what we see (I’ll look for the link) Put in that context the dress took on a new meaning and gave him a new opportunity in the classroom.Alone it was dumb. The cat is black 😀

  3. I read another Dr. Seuss book is coming out. Along the lines of what pet will I get. Fond memories of his books. Laugh & laugh!
Agree with the creme pie tastes of Mike & Debbie ^. Just give me a banana.
    Good day!
