Whenever the number of the day is the same as the number of the month – like today, which is 6-6 – we say, “Happy Bonza Bottler Day!” Gail Berger invented Bonza Bottler day as an excuse to party at least once a month. A baby born on a Bonza Bottler Day is known as a Bonza Bottler Baby, which makes those birthday celebrations doubly special. Celebrating is easy: Party!

So… when was the last time you went on a walk with your yo-yo? Wait! Before you answer that, let me clarify: I’m talking about the pocket toy consisting of a length of string knotted at one end to a flat spool. Are you a yo-yoer?  Do you know any cool yo-yo tricks? If you do, today is your day to show off! If you are not a yo-yoer and you don’t know any impressive yo-yo tricks, it’s never to late to learn! You Tube beginner yo-yo tricks

~ Filipino Pedro Flores is credited with the introduction and initial popularity of the yo-yo in the United States. He is even responsible for naming it the “yo-yo.” But it is businessman Donald F. Duncan who gets most of the credit.

Put on those gardening gloves, grab your straw hat, and let’s get moving. Gardening for an hour burns about 300 calories (depending on your weight and how intensely you garden). Lift those bags of soil. Come on, you can do it! And one and two… Now bend, and hoe, and bend, and hoe. That’s it; you’ve got it! Just two more reps and we’re ready to move on to some digging. The best health club is your backyard, with the added benefit of not only having a toned body but a beautiful yard.

★~ Moon Tree Gallimaufry:

Moon, Bonza Bottler Day, Yo-Yo Day, Gardening Exercise Day

After spending over a decade photographing the world’s oldest and rarest trees by day, Beth Moon has returned to capture these majestic plants at night. For her Diamond Nights project, Moon spent a considerable amount of time researching to find intriguing trees in southern Africa, South Africa, Botswana, and Namibia. Following a guide for hours across unmarked terrain, the dedicated photographer sought out isolated areas where there was not a single soul for miles around. Once she found her subject, she marked the location with a collection of small rocks, so that she would be able to find the right spot when using only a flashlight at night. [Read More…]

Alas I regret to inform you that I missed El Morno Donut Day yesterday. However, all is not lost! We can celebrate donuts all weekend. Donut Do-Over! So go forth and have a donut or a dozen. I’ll have some Donut Gallimaufry to share later this weekend!

My teen and I are off to spend the afternoon celebrating two high school graduations with good food, good company, and the beach. Couldn’t want no more!

Update: Vickie plugged the mysterious hole in the sidewalk and so far the packed in dirt has not been disturbed. I consider this a positive sign that, whatever it was, left the yard. No need to investigate further. The end. Really.

Have a super Saturday and remember it is Do Over Donut Day! What kind of donut will you have?

  1. Great photo of Cole and the Dane(?) — his expression reminds me of Domer somehow!

Donut Do Over? Oh, happy day! I love donuts (and so does pudgy Dallas!)

I don’t think I know of any Bonza Bottler Babies. Hmm, that’s a puzzle. I’ll have to look deeper into it.

Never managed to make a yo-yo work past its initial fall. It’s fascinating to watch someone skilled at it though!

    Enjoy your graduations!

    • Me too. Donuts are good 24/7 and Chicago has some amazing donut places.
I use to be able to walk the dog with a yo-yo but that is the only trick I managed to learn.

  2. My daughter is a Bonza Bottler Baby born on 10/10. I know some Yo-Yo’s but never really got the hang of it much past up and down.
Donuts are good anytime. I’ll take some to the office on Monday, it’s been awhile. I like Boston Cream donuts or a cake chocolate.
Hope you enjoyed your lake break. I am hitting the golf course after lunch. I had some morning chores to take care of.
    Have a good one.

    • Our lake break was fabulous. 10/10 is a fun birthday. Did you do something really special for her birthday 10/10/10?
Taking donuts to the office is a time honored tradition!

  3. Not a yo-yoer at all although not for lack of trying.
I’m always amazed at the traffic at a local donut place. I figured donuts were a morning food, but noooo!
Duncan Toys Company…… Reminds me of Duncan’s Toy Chest in Home Alone 2: Lost in NY. There is a Chicago connection! Apparently, the toy store is the front of the Rookery Building in your fair city. There you go!
    Good afternoon!

    • Noooo. Our favorite donut place opens at 8am with a line out the door. Our second favorite donut place is sells out of glazed donuts and puts a limit on them!
Ha. I did not know that about Duncan’s Toy Chest. You are a wealth of fun information!
