Happy Dog Day!

This Howladay supports all breeds and varieties of dogs and discourages purchases from unethical backyard breeders and puppy mills; instead, they encourage us to support reputable breeders and adopt from rescue organizations or humane societies.

I support this position completely and would only add that it’s important to ask yourself before you adopt any pet, “Am I willing to provide a home for this animal for the rest of its life.”  Many things in our lifetime have become disposable — a pet isn’t one of them.

Of-course, on Odd, I’m preaching to the choir!  We are pet loving fools! And I like that about us!

Summer may be slipping away but it’s not over yet, so cool off with a rich popsicle while you still have a chance. It’s a cheery way to get your cherry fix, plus these little red berries are so, so good for you.

You can pick up a box of pops on the way home or if you want a little more from your popsicle, make your own variation. Cherry especially pairs well with yogurt, chocolate, cantaloupe and even a whiskey sour!

Since it is always Dog Day around here, I might suggest that my pups fix my lunch, clean up and let me nap in the sunshine. As I type, Rascal just gave me her “you amuse” look. Fine. Pictures of my precious furs are posted on our Facebook page and Instagram. I’m sure they’ll be a few more today. And I’ll be back to treat you to a video of all my pups enjoying my new Woof Washer. I might even tell a camp tale. It depends on if I get that nap or not!

Pat your pups from me and have a great day.

  1. Morno,
I’ve been on the road a few days. I need to catch up.
What a great picture of Cole and that BIG dog. What breed of dog is Kitkat? Harry wants to know when National Cat Day is? But he likes that cartoon.
My daughter has been a popsicle lover ever since she was a little thing. She usually keeps a box in my freezer. I’ll have to check on the box and the color.
    Have a good one.

    • Kitkat is a Mastiff. Tell Harry I’ll get back to him on Cat day but there we do celebrate cats. Often it seems. Glad he liked the cartoon.
      Hope you enjoyed a popsicle!

  2. Happy National Dog Day! That’s one immense Mastiff(?) Cole is carrying on his shoulders! He reminds me of an old-time shepherd toting a wandering lamb!

I had a cherry popsicle just the other day — finally, I’m synching with the food of the day!

Hmm, must be something in ice cream that calms one’s nerves, right? If so, better to have a bit of that if one is feeling anxious!

    • Kitkat was so confused when Cole picked her up.
Aren’t cherry popsicles great! So refreshing. Glad to see you are keeping up 😀
      More ice cream can’t hurt….

  3. Happy belated National Dog Day! I like the knock knock joke. Makes simple sense. Dogs of All Nations map is interesting & informative!
I get a kick out of the Mini. It’s impractical for me to own unfortunately.
Cherry popsicles were a favorite as a kid. I don’t know the last time I turned my lips red with one.
Looks like your temps are behaving!
    Good evening!

    • I had a family pick-up their pup in a mini last week after going camping–2 teen boys, 2 adults, camping geering and a large luggage wrap on top. The pup hopped right in. Delighted to claim her postage stamp spot between the two boys. It was all pretty comical.
Popsicles are good for any age. Especially on a HOT day.
