★~ National Pizza With Everything Day (Except Anchovies):

Really? Pizza With Everything Day doesn’t include anchovies? Doesn’t that seem kind of mean? I wonder if it’s because they’re salty, slimy, fishy, and might mask the flavor of all the other delicious topping on the pizza. But who says that has to be a bad thing? Well, I would, but then I would never order a pizza with everything on it…I select my toppings carefully. However, if you do go to the trouble of ordering a pizza with every possible topping option, I think you should include anchovies.

It’s the right thing to do.

★~ Chicken Soup of the Soul Day:

Jack Canfield and Mark Victor Hansen were repeatedly turned down by the publishers that they sent their first “Chicken Soup” book to. Today, over 200 titles later and with over 112 million copies in print, the “Chicken Soup for the Soul” series is one of the best-selling paperback series of all time.

“Changing The World One Story at a Time” is the mantra of the series’ writers, who chose the name of the books because of the use of chicken soup as “good for the body.” Their inspirational stories are meant to be “good for the soul.”

Chicken Soup for the Soul Day  is set aside to celebrate who you are, where you’ve been, where you’re going, and who you’ll be thankful to when you get there!

Are you wondering why we are celebrating Pizza With Everything On It Day on Chicken Soup For The Soul Day? Perhaps you’re thinking, “Wouldn’t it have made sense to have chicken soup today?” Well maybe it would, but life isn’t all about making sense, now is it? So just eat your pizza, read Chicken Soup for the Soul books and we’ll let you know when it is time to celebrate Chicken Soup Day, okay?

★~ Today in History:

♥~ 1859 –  Jules Leotard,  the designer of the leotard, made his first public appearance as the world’s first flying trapeze artist. Jules was the first trapeze artist to  turn a somersault in mid-air and jump from one trapeze to the next. Just 21 years old, Jules had been practicing since he was a little boy. He would swing from a trapeze hanging over the swimming pool in his father’s gymnasium. The years of practice paid off … first as the daring young man on the flying trapeze … and second as the designer of the leotard, still worn by acrobats, dancers and exercise enthusiasts throughout the world.

♥~ 1936 – The San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge opened to vehicular traffic. Total cost was $77.6 million. Tolls paid off the construction loans within twenty years.

♥~ 1966 – The Monkees was the number-one album in the U.S.

♥~ 1984 – Spacewalker Joseph Allen became the first astronaut to rescue a satellite. The Discovery space shuttle made the million rescue.

♥~ 1988 – Rattle and Hum, the album by U2, started a six-week run at the top of the U.S. album charts.

♥~ 2006 – Ang Chuang Yang, a 16-year-old student in Singapore, broke the Guinness World Record for shortest time needed to type a 160-character SMS (short message service) message. Yang whizzed through the task in less than 42 seconds, beating the previous mark of 42.22 seconds set in July 2006 by an American. I bet she does not have fat fingers.

♥~ 2010 –  British detectives investigating the 2009 theft of some 300 brightly colored stuffed birds from the Natural History Museum in Tringarrested Edwin Rist (22), an American student. In July of 2011, Rist was given a 12-month jail sentence, suspended for two years, and ordered to pay £125,150, the amount he was estimated to have made by selling the stolen skins. RIst mom was heard saying to her son as they walked out of court, I told you to LOOK not Steal.

★~ Did You Know: Things I learned and loved this week:

♥~ Helpful Tip:  Spray Cooking Spray as Manicure Setter

♥~ Brownies Cooked in an egg shell : Why this seemed like a good idea–I will never know. Five egg shells cracked during the first process, three more cracked when I tried to “pipe” in the brownie mixture. I did manage to put four brownie eggs in the oven but three cracked during the cooking process leaving me a pile of brownie crumbs and egg shells. The one surviving brownie cooked in an egg shell did not cook. However, I was more than done.

♥~ I might want to bake  Chocolate Peppermint cupcakes  after I recover from trying to bake brownies in an egg shell–it might be awhile.

♥~ Bought and Love: Dripless strainer  only $6.95 and no more mess!

I had to know…if the Leotard was named after Jules Leotard, who was the tutu named after? i pictured a beautiful Ballerina, perhaps, named Tutumanova.  I was wrong.  According to Wikipedia, The word tutu is a corruption of cucu, French baby talk for cul-cul meaning roughly “botty-wotty” (for bottom). Legend has it that the term was first used by commoners who, unlike the wealthy sitting in the upper levels of the ballet theaters, were seated in the lower levels. These commoners would look up at the dancer and had a very different view of the ballet. “Tutu” refers to the area seen under the ballerinas’ skirts.  So much for the elegant, beautiful and romantic tutu.

  1. Oh what a glorious Saturday! Love your tips and link love Kb..that table cloth trick is OMG funny.
I had know idea about the leotard or the tutu…I am surprised Mike did not pick up on “botty-wotty.”

Hope you enjoy your day…I am off for early morning coffee.

  2. I read El Morno all the time but have been shy to comment but now feel I must. . .I love anchovies on my pizza and I’m so glad you stuck up for their right to be included on a pizza with EVERYTHING. I can agree to put them on only half of the pizza but they deserve to be included.

Hope you share the things you learned and loved every week-that was fun!

Thanks for El Morno. I enjoy it everyday.
    Lisa

  3. We ordered a pizza with ‘everything except anchovies” once and it was so heavy with toppings that it was soggy underneath! And heavy…probably won’t do that again…but it was interesting!
