★~ Today’s Quote: And God said, ‘Let there be light’ and there was light, but the Electricity Board said He would have to wait until Thursday to be connected. Spike Milligan

★~ Moon Phase: Full Moon:

Moon enters Full Moon phase at 2:30 AM, EST. January moon is called the Wolf moon by the Native American tribes of New England and the Great Lakes because at this time of winter, the wolves howl in hunger.

★~ Play God Day:

I’m so glad this day falls on a Monday and I won’t have to decide which sports teams win. When a catechism teacher asked a class, “If you were a God for the day, what is the first thing you would do?” one of the children pipped right up and said… “Sacrifice my big brother.” I think I would just walk around zapping Jesus bumper stickers off of cars, and then I would show the preacher who keeps faking the end of the world the end of my holy sandal.

What about you? If you were the Almighty for one holy day…what would you do? Remember, there is this little thing called “free will” that you are going to have to deal with…

★~ Static Electricity Day:

Static electricity: fun for sticking balloons to your hair, bad for touching doorknobs after crossing a carpeted room in your socks. This phenomenon occurs when two surfaces rub together and electrons jump ship, leaving one surface too positive and the other too negative. Now that you know how it works, may I suggest a few ways to get rid of it.? Take some aluminum foil, ball it up, and toss it into the dryer with the wet laundry. It removes static and never has to be changed. The aluminum foil balls should be approximately two to three inches in diameter, tightly rolled. I use two or three of them with heavier loads or with large blankets/comforters. If you mix one cap full of Downy fabric softener in a spray bottle filled with water, it makes a pretty good Static Guard substitute and it lasts a long time. Make leaving your car less shocking by gripping the metal frame of the door for a couple of seconds before you let your feet touch the ground. Leaving a little conditioner in your hair and wearing hats that aren’t wool will keep static electricity from attacking your hair. Humidity is static electricity’s worst enemy, so make sure you use a humidifier in the winter.

★~ Clean Off Your Desk Day:

There was a time when my desk was so overwhelming that I took every single thing on it except three pictures and a magazine article I wanted to save and pitched it all. Nothing bad happened. Most of my bills are paid online, but I did get one reminder notice. Sometimes you just need a fresh start. The other technique is to set the timer for a specific amount of time and take action on every single piece of paper you pick up: File it, pitch it, scan it, shred it, pay it, or put it in a pending folder if you are waiting on someone else to get back to you. Once I start, I will usually want to continue past the ding of the timer because for me, starting is always the hardest part of the job.

★~ Apricot Day:

Apricot season in the U.S. runs from May through August. In the winter, fresh apricots are imported from South America and often are hard to find…so I guess we are celebrating dried and canned apricots. If you can avoid dried and canned apricots that have not been treated with sulfur dioxide gas during processing, they will taste better and be better for you. Celebrate Apricot Day by adding sliced apricots to hot or cold cereal. Add some chopped apricots to pancake batter, give a Middle Eastern flavor to chicken or vegetable stews with the addition of dried diced apricots, or add apricots to your green salad when the fruit is in season.

Irving and his wife had received a $750,000 advance from the McGraw-Hill publishing house for the book. Clifford Irving was eventually imprisoned and ordered to repay the advance, plus damages.

♥~ 1984 – “WHERE’S THE BEEF?” Clara Peller  stared in her first television commercial for Wendy’s fast-food chain. Dave Thomas spent $8 million on the ads that promoted hamburger sales plus T-shirts, baseball caps, records, greeting cards and countless other items bearing the picture of the elderly cult star. The campaign was a huge success.

★~Born Today:

♥~ 1901 – Murat Bernard “Chic” Young – Created the comic strip “Blondie” in 1930. Originally about a jazz-age flapper who marries a playboy from a socially prominent family, “Blondie” soon changed its direction: two children and a dog were added to the cast, Dagwood became a working stiff, and the strip focused on middle-class family situations and problems. “Blondie” introduced America to the “Dagwood,” an enormous sandwich made during Dagwood’s late-night forays in the refrigerator.

★~ Did You Know:

♥~ The name ‘apricot’ comes from the Latin word praecox, which means ‘early ripening,.’

♥~ The apricot tree originated in China more than 4,000 years ago and eventually made its way across Asia to the Mediterranean. Centuries later, Spanish explorers introduced the apricot to the New World and planted the trees all over the west coast.

♥~ Farmers in California’s San Joaquin Valley produce 95% of the apricots grown in the United States

♥~ Apricot trees generally grow to be 12 to 15 feet tall and will produce fruit for 20 to 25 years.

♥~ Apricots are one of Mother Nature’s most concentrated sources of Vitamin A.

♥~ Apricots help your body fight infection, repair damaged tissues, build strong teeth and bones, and improve your eyesight.

♥~ Love this homemade apricot scrub:

Love this homemade apricot scrub:

  • Cut the apricot in half to remove the pit.
  • Place the pulp into a food processor and blend it on low. This will puree it so you can easily apply it to your face. Store the pulp in an airtight container in the refrigerator until you are ready to use it. You can also place it in the freezer and thaw it at room temperature when ready to use.
  • Mix 1 teaspoon of the apricot kernel powder and 3 tablespoons of the apricot pulp in a bowl. Apricot kernels are the seeds found inside the pit of the apricot. The crushed kernels help to scrub and exfoliate the skin while the pulp aids in soothing and rejuvenating. Ground apricot kernels help to correct skin tone, and the homemade scrub does not contain any preservatives or harsh chemicals

  1. Great trick about the aluminum foil ball in the dryer–I am going to try it…my socks cling to everything.
I eat dried apricots all the time, I just wish they were not so expensive.
It’s a good Monday for me-one of my favorite vendors is in town so we are having lunch.
    Have a good one.

  2. Dropped by after visiting Debbie’s blog and my goodness, has my IQ gone up a few points after reading this post? I think so! Not only do I feel I have something to share at the dinner table, I now know how to get rid of static cling, which unfortunately, has placed me in a few embarrassing situations in the past! And I will try the apricot facial! The skin on my face needs revival! 🙂

    • Hi Bella!
Any friend of Debbie’s blog is a friend of Odd’s. Glad to add to your dinner table talk–what did we have to eat? I think, Static cling has nailed all of us at one time or another. Let me know how you like the facial.

      Thanks for stopping by…

  3. Aluminum foil balls will get rid of static cling? Who knew?? I’ve never tried that, but I’m game! I’ve often said I was going to take a yardstick and swipe EVERYTHING off the top of my desk, just to get a clean start. I don’t know why things pile up as they do (probably has something to do with how many pies I stick my fingers into, ha!), but I seriously need a few solid hours for freshening. You inspire me, Katybeth!

    • We inspire one another….The desk hack works but is not for the faint of heart…however, I can promise what ever you free yourself of will come back if it’s important especially bills 🙂 My water bill reminder was a large orange notice stuck to my door–I think it had the words Deadbeat on it…I waited a little longer to see if the neighbors would take up a collection for the poor widow women and her son…they didn’t and I paid. /

  4. ah!! Thank you for the aluminium foil trick! I will have to try it on! I did clean my desk this morning, but my boss and co-worker must not know it’s clean your desk day cause they pile stuff at mine! Or maybe they do and they clean up their desk and put everything in mine. Sigh….
