Today, at 2:00 pm, the Chicago Bears will play the Green Bay Packers. The Packers and the Bears are the oldest rivals in the NFL.
My Dearly Departed loved football. I used to swear that he would sit in front of a television’s test pattern if they threw a football across it every now and then. Cole started watching Da Bears games with Joe while he was still in the womb–which meant of course, that I had to be bribed with good football snacks before I would agree to watch.
If da-vine intervention is allowed, I would say that, between Joe and Payton, we have it covered.
I’m not sad, just a little wishful. I wish Joe could watch the game with Cole in more than spirit. I wish there was a radio playing the game in every room and that the TV was blaring loudly upstairs. I wish the sounds of cheering and cursing would fill the house. I wish football snacks littered my counters and floors. (Ok, maybe not.)
At times like these, I have to look upward and say, “Good Lord, what were you thinking?” Really, a boy needs his dad, a Bears fan, at times like these.
I think I just heard both God and Joe say, “GO BEARS!”
Tell me. Please tell me! I really, really, want to know…what is your favorite TV snack for those BIG television moments.
Glad you were in my Odd neighborhood. Feel free to drop by any time. I would love to hear from you in the comment section of this blog, or on Facebook or Twitter!

A PRAYER FOR THE BEARS
Our Papa
Who art a bear,
Hallowed be thy fame,
Thy championship come,
The play be run,
At home as it is away,
Give us this day our Sunday win,
And forgive us our turnovers,
Though we pounce on those who turnover against us,
And lead us not into fourth and long,
But deliver us from Krenzel.
In the name of Ditka
Butkus,
And the holy Payton
It was in 1985,
SO SHALL IT BE IN 2011, REIGN WITHOUT END.
DAAAAAMEN!!!!
GO BEARS!! Ordering pizza. Dam after this game who cares about the super bowl.
😀
Your right–But of-course we will care!
♥
I will cheer for the Bears this week but if it is the Steelers and the Bears in two weeks Chicago is toast! 👿
Pretzels, peanuts and Beer!
Lets just take it one week at a time and then see who is eating toast come Superbowl Sunday!!
Go Bears!
Oh Katybeth how you tug at my heart with your blog today. I am crying here like a baby! I am so sorry for you both and will pray for you both especially today. Jim lost his Dad very young but it caused him to reach out to his brothers and his friends even more. You’ve met him he is a real man’s man as they say. Cole will be fine, he has so many men like David Tucci looking out for him. Not to mention the Da Vine intervention!
Easy Football treat. Go Bears!
1 pound hamburger
1 pound Italian Sausage out of the casing
brown it altogether and add a tsp of Oregano, Basil, some salt, pepper and a little red pepper if you like it hot.
3 or 4 cloves of crushed garlic.
1 pound of Velvetta cheese. ( the square block)
Stir it up and put one LargeTablespoon on cocktail rye bread. Make a huge cookie sheet full of them and then broil very carefully until browned. Guys love them!
I can make this Nancy! Yes, I can. Cole does have a lot of wonderful men in his life–and we are “blessed”–not that others are cursed of-course 😀

I remember vividly Joe and Cole watching football together when Cole was a toddler. Joe would occassionaly throw the sofa cushion to Cole and Cole would catch it. I thought Joe threw it to hard but Cole seemed to love it. They would be laughing and cheering, or Joe would be swearing and Cole would be quiet. I hope Da Bears smash em!!!
MJ
LOL–you hated the cushion football game….but then again I hated the noise in every single room.
Lets hope Papa is not rooting against us! He wouldn’t be right???
Go Bears!!

Popcorn…real popcorn, not the microwave nastiness!
You will be pleased to know….we have a popcorn pan and we use real popcorn. We popcorn frequently and tonight we drowned our sorrow in it and now we feel much better. It did make our popcorn a little soggy, though.

It is the next day. 🙁 🙁 I hope that the snacks were great. The company a joy to be around. The Bears had a good run this year. Still cause to celebrate. 8) I hope the QB will be okay. I did notice he never returned to the game. 😕 Love to you and Cole. You are forever in my thoughts and prayers. A sweet picture you used at the top. Airhug.
Thanks Kathy. We were sad the Bears lost but we did have good snacks and fun watching the game. The Bears did have a good run this year and there is always next year!
♥
We were rooting for da Bears yesterday, too! My Daddy-O is a native Chicagoan, and we were screaming at the end–boo Pack! But it was a helluva great season.
It was a great season and a great game and as we say frequently in Chicago–There is always next year!
