★~Draw a bird day: Grab your pencils, ready, get set, draw! April 8 is national Draw A Bird Day. The origins of this day are a little sketchy, but there are multiple sources on the web, including Wikipedia, sighting this day as not just a national holiday, but as a celebratory day we share with several European countries and even Australia.
This day is not necessarily about artistic ability so don’t be intimidated. There is also no preferential treatment shown towards any particular species of bird. If vultures are your thing, draw a vulture. Peacocks, sparrows, seagulls, they’re all fair game. The real purpose of this holiday is to appreciate birds and art at the same time.
According to Wikipedia, this holiday began in the 1940’s as a moral boost after the war and is still celebrated today.

♥~ 1957 – Jimmy Dean began a morning show on CBS-TV to compete with the first 45 minutes of the Today show on NBC-TV. No, he didn’t stand around in an apron cookin’ sausage and singing Big Bad John for the audience, though it may not have been a bad idea. No sponsors were found for the show and it was back to the smokehouse for Jimmy when CBS quickly sliced the show from the network

Hammerin’ Hank trotted into baseball immortality as the Braves beat the Los Angeles Dodgers, 7 to 4. Aaron finished his career two years later with 755 home runs; a record that still stands.
♥~ 1985 – Comedienne Phyllis Diller underwent a surgical procedure for permanent eye liner to eliminate the need for eyelid makeup. Must have been a real sloooow day over at Phyllis’ house.
♥~ 1986 – Actor Clint Eastwood was elected mayor of Carmel-by-the-Sea, California. Eastwood won in a landslide victory, receiving 72.5 percent of the vote. And he did so without fanfare any paid advertisements, just buttons and bumper stickers. Apparently, a few voters had already heard of him.
♥~ 2005 – Four Australian performers called The Wiggles topped BRW Magazine’s list of Australia’s 50 richest performers of 2004. The band had an estimated gross income of $34.5 million, up from $10.7 million in the previous year.

Can I draw little squiggles over the ocean and call them a Seagull? OR what about if I trace around my hand and call it a turkey. A Turkey is a bird. I can’t draw.

We feed and photograph them, but we don’t draw birds (except maybe Anna, our resident artist!).
Chicago is one of my favourite bands, and I love Clint Eastwood. John Schneider was yummy in the 70’s, and still looks good…he was on Hot in Cleveland a few months ago…

My son loves Chicago. They now do an auction for someone to sing “If you leave me now” at each of their concerts. Wish they were coming close enough to NC to get him and his horn on stage with them.

I passed the eagle live feed on to others. Eagles, hawks, hummingbirds (photoed some of the hummers in my own yard) and seagulls. Love them all. Thank you for posting.

I love hummingbirds. My parents have a lot of them all coming to happily feed. I have never been able to entice them to visit. I’m glad you like the eagle feed. I think I am addicted. Those eagle parents are pretty amazing how they handle the care and feeding of those babies.

I reside here in the nesting home of the Bald Eagle. Hence the term Eagle Ridge Resort. I lived here many years and never saw an Eagle. One day I sent Jim with a care package for a homeless fellow. A backpack, clothes, and food. Jim delivered and said the poor man ( A decorated marine vet) was walking three hundred miles to get a job in Rockford. Anyway Jim delivered the items and sat with the man while he shoveled the food into his empty belly. It had been four days without any food other than beeef jerkey.
Jim was suddenly MIA ( Golfing) but I didn’t know that! I was driving around the county looking for my husband interviewing all the farmers at the commodity trading office, post office, Elizabeth Garage etc.. Jim who still had the staples in his chest from a triple bypass was not supposed to drive let alone golf but that is another story.
I arrived back at my house and I got out of the car and I heard a loud noise ( unfamiliar) I looked above and saw a giant Bald Eagle. I never have been this close to this magnificent bird. I was trembling by it’s enormity and it was staring right into my very soul with those frightful eyes! Suddenly I was overwhelmed with emotion. I’m Irish and supersticious and knew this meant something. Birds of all types always mean something! But nobody ever mention what happens when an Eagle lands on your garage. So as I trembled I began to pray for Jim who I thought maybe dead because of me. And then it all clicked and I knew why God sent the Eagle. Isaiah 40:31 but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. Jim would be fine! Later I learned our marine friend had been walking for many days ( at least two that I had observed) and the Lord did not let him grow weary either.
Jim arrived smiling shortly after and he said ” I feel great, I went golfing”! So much for doctors orders. So ever since that day I am humbled by those awesome birds and as always my Lord.
What a touching story Nancy. Lovely. They really are magnificent birds. So majestic. I’m sure the Marine still speaks of your kindness along his travels.

I never met him KB. Jim would not allow me to go, we got in an argument and he drove away with the stuff I prepared against doctors orders! This is why I was so frightened Jim was sick or in trouble. The silly man was golfing and just fine.
I’m enjoying the bird watching from home thanks to your blog. I am somewhat addicted to the Eagles now!
