★~ Emma M. Nutt Day:

In the beginning, there were no female telephone operators, and callers complained that male operators were curt and very rude. So a woman was hired to be the courteous, friendly voice on the other end of the telephone line. Emma Nutt was the first woman telephone operator to pick up the phone and say, “Number pu-leeeeeze” for the Telephone Dispatch Company of Boston, Massachusetts. She remained with the company for 33 years.

Emma was very thankful that her first name was not Imma.

★~ National Cherry Popover Day:

A cousin of the Yorkshire pudding, a popover is a light muffin made from thin batter that rises to form a hollow shell when baked. It can be prepared as a sweet or as a savory side dish.

Today we are celebrating the cherry popover, and more than likely, you have most of the ingredients you need in your kitchen to whip this treat up. Click here for a recipe. Click here for popover tips.

★~ Pop Open Some Wine Day:

If you are too pooped to make cherry popovers, don’t despair — just pop open a bottle of your favorite wine, pour yourself a  glass, and plop yourself in your favorite chair.

Do you feel a longing for school supplies around this time of the year?  I always do, so I buy some new notebooks, some fresh pens, and maybe a new bottle of Elmer’s glue.  I mean, who doesn’t enjoy a shopping trip through an office supply store (I just bought some of the prettiest binder clips to match some file folders).  Does it matter that I live a practically paper-free life through the magic of scanning? Not in the least (I also bought some cute paper clips in different shapes)! I was excited to see that Mole skin notebooks now have some really cool designs. A Mole skin notebooks paired with the perfect pen is pure heaven. Really!

Have a tremendous Thursday and leave a comment about your favorite school supply or notebook if you have an morno moment — Odd Loves Company!

  1. I saw Chicken Boy when I was in LA about 6 months ago. Odd. Colombo was so cool in a rumpled sort of way.

One day left before the 3 day weekend. Yes!

  2. EL Morno!! The Chicken Boy! That is so funny. I had never even heard of Emma Nutt. Wonder if Lily Tomlin based her character off Emma.

    Have a great Thursday.

  3. Oooooohhhhh! It’s so HOT outside. Why does it have to be so HOT? It was not hot like this last September 1. When is it going to cool off? This heat is soooooo haaaaaaaard for me…..
    Oh.
    Wait.
    It’s not whine day.
    Sorry……

  4. I’m loving all these September birthdays — I’m certainly in good company! And I’m glad to find another “school supply junkie.” I haunt the aisles looking for planners, pens, and notebooks (flash drives and SD cards, too!) for my office — and I can’t leave without smelling at least one box of Crayons!

  5. My husband and I got engage in September!!! I’m actually excited with the idea of buying a school supply, it’s offical I’m a mother of a kindergarten! But then the school have a program where you just purchase everything online and price it per package. It’s easier but took the fun from roaming through the office supply store. I think my husband is very happy that at least it’s one less thing for me to shop for.. hehehe.. 🙂
