★~ Today’s Quote: If you want others to be happy, practice compassion.  If you want to be happy, practice compassion.  ~Dalai Lama

★~ Joy Germ Day:

If you are happy and you know it…infect others. Joy Germ Day is about “Men, women, and children on fire with the desire to conspire and inspire, who elect to collect, infect and direct those ‘down in the dumpsters’ to develop resilience to rally round the rigors of reality by hugging, smiling, laughing, grinning, and winning victoriously over regression and depression.”

Infect other people with good cheer and happiness. Research shows that happiness is easily passed from one person to the next. Research also shows that when one person become happier, it has a ripple effect. Sadness, fortunately, travels much slower.

Be happy–your mood is infecting others.

★~ Male Watcher Day:

I am not sure this video has anything to do with Male Watcher Day, but it does speak to the relationship between men and women. We had an interesting conversation on Facebook about the topic of this video…“Can women and men be friends?” Would love to hear your opinion, so watch the video and share your thoughts. Thank you for sharing, El Morno friend Cynthia!

As far as male watching..well why not.

★~ Bubble Bath Day:

The warm water and steam open your pores, clean your skin, and loosen up that knot in your neck. I enjoy a bubble bath with a piece of cake…other people enjoy reading a book, and still others like to close their eyes and let the cares of the world drift far, far away. Don’t forget to roll up a towel to put behind your neck, and make sure you have something comfy and cozy to put on when you emerge from bubbles and bath.

If you are truly a shower person and refuse to soak your bones in a bubble bath, at least treat yourself to a new bath product today.

★~ English Toffee Day:

Toffee became popular in England, in the latter part of the 1800s. Toffee is a sweet, which is traditionally made by boiling sugar and/or treacle until the mixture thickens sufficiently to set.  There have been a variety of toffees made in England for centuries ranging from brittle to soft, light to dark, with nuts,  without nuts, with treacle, without treacle, with raisins, without raisins, pulled or poured.

The best way to celebrate English Toffee is to enjoy a piece. Making it is surprisingly  easy and takes very few ingredients. Here is a recipe by Paula Deen

★~ Today in History:

♥~ 1856 – Borax (hydrated sodium borate) was discovered by Dr. John Veatch near Red Bluff, California. It became a multiuse product that was popularized during the era of TV’s Death Valley Days. Remember 20 Mule Team Borax?

♥~ 1955 – After 130 home basketball wins, the University of Kentucky lost — at home — to Georgia Tech, 59-58. It was the first Kentucky loss at home since January 2, 1943.

♥~ 2001 – A Japanese man choking on a sticky rice cake was saved when his daughter sucked the glob out with a vacuum cleaner. Family members first tried to remove the food with their fingers. Then the man’s 46-year-old daughter grabbed a vacuum cleaner, took out his dentures and stuck the hose into his mouth with the switch turned to high. The 70-year-old man had fully recovered by the time paramedics arrived.

★~Born Today:

♥~ 1935 – Elvis (Aron) Presley singer: That’s All Right, Mama, Mystery Train, All Shook Up, Love Me Tender, Suspicious Minds; 90 top-20 hits; actor: Jailhouse Rock, G.I. Blues,Blue Hawaii; over 30 films; died Aug 16, 1977

♥~ 1942 – Stephen Hawking author: A Brief History of Time

♥~ 1947 – David Bowie (Jones) singer: Space Oddity, Fame, Changes, Ziggy Stardust, Peace on Earth-Little Drummer Boy [w/Bing Crosby]; actor: The Man Who Fell to Earth, Just a Gigolo, The Last Temptation of Christ

★~ Did You Know:  If you’re not happy and you know it read along. Here are six ways — some admittedly challenging — to help you get that much-needed mood boost:

♥~ First,  It may not be your fault that you are not happy.  Psychologists at the University of Edinburgh and the Queensland Institute for Medical Research in Australia have found that happiness is partly determined by personality traits that are largely hereditary, along with your situation in life.

♥~ Doing something nice for someone else can boast your own happiness. One study shows that  spending $5.00 on someone else can improve your own state of happiness.

♥~ Working out or even just talking a walk will often improve your mood.

♥~ Hang out with positive, happy people and catch their mood

♥~  Tidy up–if you can’t clean at least straighten your surroundings and get rid of one thing every single day. Even if it’s just emptying the trash.

♥~ Pretend today is going to be great. Happiness is a state of mind. If you tell yourself you are happy–yourself will believe you. Do so, and it will be.  Research shows that although we think that we act because of the way we feel, in fact, we often feel because of the way we are.

Questions to ponder: Can men and women be friends? What do you think?  What makes you happy?

Hawk, El Morno Poet Laureate,  shared this silly: “Annoying things to do in an elevator”. I love them all but number 8  left me giggling.

Hope you have a Happy Sunday!

  1. I agree with who ever said, “you are just about as happy as you make up your mind to be.”
Male watching works for me if I can watch back. Men and Women can be friend’s but it is more complicated than friendship with the same sex. “Your Tone” for instance is a sticky subject.
    Have a good one.

  2. Oh for heavens sakes. Did you notice that all the women said yes men and women can be friends, and all the men said no way? Well. these were COLLEGE students where, no offense, the men would hook up with any woman given the chance. I truly believe that men and women can be friends. regardless of whether or not there’s mutual or one sided attraction. When you know it’s not appropriate to be more you can be friends. And not every guy wants to jump in bed with every female. Or vice versa. Absolutely men and women can be friends. I have a ton of men friends…and their wives know that we’re just friends..in most cases the wives turned into friends too.

    • I noticed the age right away and I do think it is tricker at the college age. I think it is possible but for many men and women to be friends but can be tricky. Most of the male friends I have had over the years were in a work environment.

  3. Here is my perspective of men and women friends. When you are little and before 2nd grade you can be friends with boys. From 2nd grade through 8th grade, boys and girls think the opposite sex is a pain. From the teen years through college, the girls are friends with both sexes and can have a personal realationship with a guy and yet be friends with other guys. Men, until the age of 65 are always trying to make out with any woman who gives him the time of day! Women on the other hand, find having a gal friend to share secrets with the most important kind of friend. Men just don’t get it! They always seem to get the wrong message if you try to be kind and helpful to them. And that is my thoughts on the subject. I do have male friends though. Mostly guys I went to high school with.
