★~ Millionaire Day:

POOF! You are a millionaire  . . . now what?  Sure a million dollars is not what it used to be, but wouldn’t it be nice to have that kind of money, even if just for a day?

★~ Strawberry Day:

Strawberry season is just getting started, so it’s time to stock up on your favorite shortcake topper and smoothie ingredient. Slather on some sunblock, gather the kids, and head to the strawberry fields to pick a few baskets and enjoy the fruits of your labor all summer long. Plan B: Go to your nearest Whole Foods, Trader Joe’s, or Farmers’ Market, and buy some juicy red strawberries.

★~ Quiche Lorraine Day:

Quiche Lorraine! Named after the Lorraine region of France, and borrowing from “kuchen,” the German word for cake, which was eventually altered to “kische,” the quiche Lorraine is a hallmark French dish that dates back to the 16th century and is still served in France as a light lunch, available at boulangeries, or a first course, or hors d’oeuvre, at dinnertime.

Julia Child, in Mastering the Art of French Cooking, described the original quiche Lorraine as an open pie with a filling consisting of an egg and cream custard with smoked bacon or lardons. What the heck is a lardon? El Morno friend and fellow blogger Debbie google it for us last year:  “Lardon (according to Wikipedia, which I know isn’t the best source!) is a strip or cube of pork fat. I suppose that’s where the idea that “anything tastes better with bacon” came from!”

May I leave you with these final words of wisdom: Don’t try to win over the haters . You’re not the Jackass Whisperer! Not sure who said it first….but I said it here!

  1. Off to golf. Not a fan of Quiche. Being a millionaire would be fun. I could think of a lot of ways to spend the money….

  2. We will head out to pick strawberries in a few weeks. Love fresh strawberries.
Laughed out loud at the “wisdom” So true! 😀

  3. I have such a good recipe for Quiche! I will send it to you. Quiche with strawberries on the side is such a great summer meal.
A millionaire for the day…I think I could help the economy!

  4. A million may not go far but it has to go a lot further than the $20.00 in my wallet right now! I always think of Quiche as something ladies eat when they “do lunch.” I have never made it but I think I might give it a try.
What a thankless job being a Jackass Whisperer is…I know on good authority!

  5. I think I’d like being a millionaire, even for just a day! I went to a state university (though I don’t drive a Toyota, and I was a better student than most of them appear to be, haha!)
