Fall Down In Texas

★~Today’s Quote: If I am walking with two other men, each of them will serve as my teacher. I will pick out the good points of the one and imitate them, and the bad points of the other and correct them in myself.  Confucius

★~World Teachers Day:

World Teachers Day

World Teachers Day was started on October 5, 1994 by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

Teaching has been described in many ways: growing humans, the art of patience, shaping minds… If you’ve ever had, or currently have, a teacher in your life that has impacted you or your child in some way, then today is the day to recognize them. A facebook friend and teacher wrote this as her Facebook status on Wednesday night.

“ I know that I should be a good informed citizen and listen to the candidates, but I am exhausted by the split screen, stepping on one another’s words, shaking of heads, and smirks and so….off to bed I go so I can get up and do a very important job of teaching the future of America…..I guarantee you Mitt and Barack…..I worked harder than you did today…..Nigh night”

★~ World Smile Day:

smiley face

World Smile Day was created by Harvey Ball, the guy who invented the “smiley face”,  to spread cheer and good will around the world.

Smiling is contagious,
you catch it like the flu,
When someone smiled at
me today, I started smiling too.

I passed around the corner,
and someone saw my grin –
When he smiled I
realized, I’d passed it on to him.

I thought about that smile,
then I realized its worth,
A single smile, just like mine,
could travel round the earth.

So, if you feel a smile begin,
don’t leave it undetected –
Let’s start an epidemic quick
and get the world infected!!!

★~ Apple Betty Day:

Apple Betty

I hope you like apples because October is full of Apple Days! Apple Betty is a classic American dessert dating back to the colonial period and probably evolved from the traditional English bread pudding. The name “brown Betty” first appeared in print in 1864 when it was mentioned in a Yale Literary Magazine article. I’m betting on Betty Crocker for the perfect Apple Betty Recipe!

★~ Interesting Fact:   October 5 is the date the most people (in the U.S., anyway) are born. Good to know right?

♥~ 1958 – The Kingston Trio went to the top of the charts with Tom Dooley. The was the first time a folk song had dominated the charts. The story, told in song, is of an embittered Civil War veteran, Tom Dula. It seems that he had been forced to make a confession just before having to face the gallows, saying that he had killed his girlfriend out of jealousy. Some said he was innocent. The story became a folk song in the 1860s, and The Kingston Trio, a group of clean-cut, shorthaired, button-down shirted, young men, rode the folk revival to fame and fortune with their rendition of Tom Dooley.

♥~ 1962 –  The Beatles debut single ‘Love Me Do’ was released in the UK. It spent 26 week’s on the chart peaking at No.4.

Joe fondly remembered the James Bond attaché case he received one Christmas from Santa, and as he reminisced, I realized that I would have traded my Baby Magic doll for a James Bond attaché case in a heartbeat. Of course, when Joe fired his James Bond gun and with great precision bounced a dart off his dad’s forehead causing him to holler some unChristmas-like words, the wanna-be spy experienced a few tense moments—but soon all was jolly again as the spy was sent outside to play, in Chicago, in December. Spies are tough.  Cole loved that part of the story. I don’t ever remember watching a spy movie, but I do remember pretending to be a spy and wondering what my dad really took to work each day in his LOCKED attaché case.

Did you pretend to be a spy when you were a kid?

Hope you have a Smiley Friday!

  1. Morno,
TGIF!! It has been a long week.
Apple Betty sounds a lot like Apple Kuchen which my sis made last weekend. I could eat it again tho.
Yep, I played spy. I was to old for James Bond attaché case when they came out but I do remember thinking they were really neat.
Some golf this weekend. If the weather holds. Football and I took Monday off.
Glad you are up and out. Have a good one.

  2. Three days weekend for me too! YAY. Happy Dance. James Bond! I’m a fan. It’s my sisters birthday today! 😀

Glad you get up and go is back! Have a great day.

  3. you’re back in the fold now!
world teachers day…….teachers should have a day of appreciation worldwide.
always like beatles references. they’re my fab four.
james bond! i knew he had some type of appeal, but i was too young to understand the term sexy. i did have the bond, james bond, attache case! i also remember some type of knife or whatever that slid out from an outside edge. good shot, joe!

  4. Funny, but I don’t know a soul born on Oct. 5! That spy kit of Joe’s looks too cool — I’d have traded a dolly for that, too! Apples and Smiles make a great combination. Happy weekend — sadly, I only get two days off, but that’s okay cos I’ll probably be working them too, ha!

  5. Charlie came in several weeks ago from his walk in the Bosque. He told me he saw an attache case lying next to the ditch bank. I asked him what was in it. He said he didn’t know as he didn’t go over and take a closer look. Can you imagine???? I could have no more walked away from it than fly. I mean, even if you were scared of it, wouldn’t you have at least picked it up and taken it to the police?
Katybeth, you loved Baby Magic. I can’t believe you would have traded her for a spy case.
My family would have applauded Joe for a great shot!
