High quality tools have been used for thousands of years. Humans have invented ingenious tools that perform duties from the most simple to the most complex. A hammer, when you think about it, is just a well engineered medium for focused bashing. A saw is designed with many teeth coinciding left and right from the blade. This means the saw creates a cut that is wider than the body of the blade, so it doesn’t jam. Looking at the drill, we can see that it hasn’t changed its basic design in centuries; we’ve just made it electric powered.

The common thread between all of these amazing tools is that they were invented to fill a need. Someone, thousands of years ago, needed to drive some primitive nail into some wood, probably to fasten something together. So they invented the hammer. Likewise, someone wanted to bore a hole, either in the ground or in some wood, so they invented a tool with a cylindrical blade which spun in an annular fashion to drill the hole; effectively inventing the drill..

My teen’s latest favorite tool makes pocket holes. The tool joins wood together without any glue. He recently made me a white board (another promised post for later–it’s worth waiting for) and left the pocket holes exposed so I could admire them. I have to admit they are impressive!

Do you have a tool that is your absolute favorite? My needle nose pliers is still high on my list but since the last Worship Your Tools Day I’ve learned to use a drill and it now the drill has taken over top spot.

Tools Day, Oatmeal Nut Waffle Day

Waffles became a popular baked treat during the Middle Ages. The original recipe called for just flour and water, so vendors sold waffles on the streets during the religious fasting season. Bakers branded the waffles with coats of arms, religious symbols, and the traditional honeycomb pattern we are accustomed to today. Eventually people began adding other ingredients like eggs, butter, milk, and honey. If you are looking for a healthier version of this already perfect breakfast classic….

This week . . .a lot of us will be able to relate….

It’s warming up and we have sun today! Chicago is expecting the temps to hit 50 and the rest of the week is trending towards unseasonable warm.  The snow in my back yard is mostly gone and the wood chips are controlling the mud. The cold might not be completely behind us but these warm days will pull us through. Go team Spring!

We are off to Prairie Wolf to let our campers run free and wild for a few hours. We won’t let a little mud deter us from having a wonderful time. We’ll just add some grooming to our schedule. Did you know a bounce (dryer sheet) is great for removing, what not, from a pups coat?  Sure, you still have to comb out the under coat on a long haired dog as needed. But they are great for a quick freshen the pup up. And so far I’ve never experienced a downside to using them.

  1. Morno,
That video was funny and true.
What next a miter saw? You just can’t have too many tools. My favorite tool is an old hammer that use to belong to my grandfather. I have used it since I was about 10 and we always get the job done.
Oatmeal cookies for the office. Waffles have to be served hot. I know you aren’t a fan but we pretend we’re eating good for you cookies. Thin mints have been overly abundant lately. Nothing thin about them.
We are enjoying the same weather. Golf this afternoon if it holds.
    Have a good one.

    • A Miter saw is high, high on the list. Sounds like a pretty special hammer!
I agree about thin mints. Enough. Believe it or not I like the occasional Oatmeal cookie. Golf season has begun this must make you so happy.

    • I’ll welcome you back almost a month later but gosh darnit I won’t be unwelcoming even if it takes me a month. Slept until 7? Whoa!

  2. Good Morno.
I think I’m a day off but waffles sounds like a fun Thursday dinner. Once you learn how to drill you never turn back. That video was perfect and hilarious.
    Have a great day!

  3. Great video! It sure is real to me….
The favorite tool remains my trusty hammer. It generally matches my mood when it’s repair time.
Those waffles look tasty. I always opt for pancakes though.
I envy your trips to PWP.
A day late on this one & I’m tired…..please refer to video! Good Night!

    • Wasn’t it funny? Real to me too. A waffle is a nice change…I know change isn’t your favorite thing but maybe it wouldn’t hurt to waffle once a year? :-D.
No worries I’m a month late responding to these comments.

  4. I had to tread carefully through Friday the 13th since you weren’t on hand to give me the scoop. I hope you’re not missing PI day tomorrow.

    • I totally forgot it was Friday the 13th until you remind me. I’m sorry but I’ll never forget to tell you when Mercury is in Retrograde!
