★~ Today’s Autumn Picture was taken by El Morno friend Thomas while Walleye and muskie fishing.  I love the burst of fall and how the trees are reflected in the lake water. So beautiful!

★~ Guardian Angel Day: 

This is first prayer Cole learned; his early childhood teacher use to recite it to the children and I use to say it with him at bedtime. The prayer is from a Catholic source but it does not belong to any one religion.

Angel of God, My Guardian Dear
to whom God’s love commits me here.

Ever this day be at my side
to light and guard and rule and guide.

I never pictured my guardian angel as a beautiful woman with a silver halo and glittery wings, like the one in the picture.  I would describe her as more Hag-like — crusty, old, wise, with a no nonsense manner. She does not guide me out of the way of danger; she gives me a sharp push. Suffice to say, she has done a lot of pushing over the years, and for that I would like to thank her. Tell us a little bit about your guardian angel and how she/he/it protects you from the world and from yourself.

★ ~ Name Your Car Day:

I’m sure your car has a name . . . because I can’t imagine that anyone who owns a car wouldn’t have given it a name. That would be like telling me you didn’t name your children, pets, or appliances. However, if your car is nameless, please use today to remedy the situation. Some popular car names are Betsy, Red Rover, Veronica, Buddy, Baby Blue, The Beast, and Goldie Locks.

★ ~ National Custodial Worker Day:

When you go into the office in the morning, don’t you feel good when you notice your waste paper basket has been emptied? I do. Custodial workers keep our offices and schools clean and tidy. This year Custodial Worker Day falls on Sunday, but you can plan to start your school or work week by taking a minute to offer a special thanks and perhaps a candy bar or a $10 Starbucks card to the workers that take out trash, mop down the floors, and vacuum in the wee hours of the morning.

★~ Food of the Day: Fried Scallops:

It’s National Fried Scallops Day!  Enjoy scallops in soup, prepared as sushi, or bread them, fry them, or sauté them in garlic and butter and pair them with a glass of white wine. Bon appetit!

♥~ 1871 – 70-year-old Morman leader Brigham Young was arrested for polygamy. At the time, Young had more than 20 wives and 47 children. He was convicted, but the U.S. Supreme Court overturned the conviction.

♥~ 1971 – This was a very good day for singer Rod Stewart. His Every Picture Tells a Story album hit number one in both the U.S. and the U.K.And, to add a little icing to this day’s cake, his single with two back-to-back hits from the album — Maggie May and Reason to Believe — rose to#1 on the Billboard singles chart.

♥ ~ 1950 – The comic strip Peanuts, from the pen of cartoonist Charles Schulz, began in seven U.S. newspapers. The strip, for the United Features Syndicate, had only three characters: Charlie Brown, Peppermint Patty (Reichardt) and Shermy. Snoopy, made his first appearance on October 4th. Later, we were introduced to Linus, Lucy Van Pelt, Sally and Schroeder; and learned that the Peanuts gang came from the California town of Sebastopol, which really exists.

★~ Did You Know:

I usually stay away from politics and religion on El Morno but because Brigham Young was arrested for polygamy on this date (read up) I thought I would share some interesting facts about the Latter-day Saints Church.  *LDS Church or, colloquially, the Mormon Church.

♥~ Tithing:  While tithes are not uncommon among religion, rarely are they mandatory. LDS theology states that in order to make it to the highest kingdom of heaven, you must pay a full and honest tithe.

♥~ Pleasure in Life: This is one of the most famous pieces of LDS doctrine. It’s also the cause of many myths about Mormons. Basically; no coffee, no drugs, no tobacco.

♥~ Spirits: Everyone on earth now was a spirit in the pre-existence. When we die, our spirits are separated from our bodies and if we were good they go to “spirit paradise.” If we were bad they go to “spirit prison.” The spirit world exists as a place for spirits to go while awaiting the second coming.

♥~ Priesthood: Any worthy male can be given the priesthood.

♥~  Multiple Heavens: In LDS doctrine there are three heavens: the Celestial Kingdom, Terrestrial Kingdom, and Telestial Kingdom. The Celestial is the highest, where God and the ones who followed his law reside. The Terrestrial is the middle, where people who followed the Law of Moses reside. The Telestial is the lowest, where the ones who followed carnal law reside.

♥~ Forgiveness:  In LDS theology you can be forgiven for any sin, save two. First, denying the Holy Spirit, and second, murder.

♥ ~ Multiple Worlds and Multiple Gods: Mormons believe that God created multiple worlds and each world has people living on it. They also believe that multiple Gods exist but each has their own universe. We are only subject to our God and if we obtain the highest level of heaven we can become gods ourselves.

♥~ Polygamy (being married multiple people at the same time): Is not condone by the church and is cause for excommunication from the church.

♥~ Marriage in the Afterlife:  LDS Doctrine states that you are still husband and wife in the afterlife and continue to have spirit babies to populate your own world. In other words you are wed or  “sealed”  with your spouse forever, not just until death do you part. However you can remarry if your spouse dies. So technically a Mormon could be married in the hear and now to one person and in the afterlife to another person.
