★~ Today’s Quote: I don’t believe an accident of birth makes people sisters or brothers. It makes them siblings, gives them mutuality of parentage. Sisterhood and brotherhood is a condition people have to work at. – Maya Angelou
★~ National Sibling Day:
As I am an only child, I had to go to the El Morno masses for more information about this very special day. The overall consensus seems to be that even though siblings hog all the attention, insist on looking at you when you would rather they didn’t, touch your things—or think about touching your things, and insist you were adopted, they are also the only other people in the whole wide world that understand how very odd your parents really are.
Today is the day for a Sibling Shout Out. Insist that while you will always be Mom’s favorite, you are really glad that your wish that they were never born wasn’t granted.
I asked friends who had siblings to share a few sib sentences with me . . . as it was recently explained to me, “My siblings share my growing memories and my grown-up dreams,” “I love my brother like a brother!”, “My sister was awful growing up and she is still awful, but over the years I have come to love that about her,” “I would kill him, but then I would miss him so much,” “My sister and I have always been best friends, even when we couldn’t stand one another,” and “My brother is the second best brother. I am the best brother of course
★~ Golfers Day:
Golfing is such a brilliant sport. It doesn’t involve serious injuries, grueling practices, sweating profusely, or youth. And when the game is over everyone meets at the club house for a cocktails!
★~ Cinnamon Croissant Day:
The combination of a croissant and cinnamon is a treat that can’t be beat.
Although croissants were first created as far back as the 13th century, cinnamon has been around even longer. The spice is mentioned in Chinese writings in 2800 B.C. and it has since been used in various cultures around the world.
Ancient Egyptians often used cinnamon in their embalming process and ancient Romans valued it higher than silver and gold! During Medieval times, cinnamon was used to preserve meat as well as for medicinal purposes to treat sore throats.
Cinnamon’s popularity has continued over the years in the culinary world and it is one of the most often used spices in recipes.
To celebrate National Cinnamon Croissant Day, bake a batch of cinnamon croissants or head to Cinnabon and call it close enough.

★~ Did You Know:
♥~ While siblings may not always get along, they do choose to pass a great deal of their free time with one another — more than anyone else in their life, in fact. By the time children reach age 11, they’re spending about 33% of their free time with siblings. Even as they grow into adolescence and get busy with their own lives, a Penn State University study found that they still spend about 11 hours a week with one another. In big families, these numbers can be even higher, with kids passing 17 hours with one another. Click for more information
♥~ One researcher found that brothers and sisters between 3 and 7 years old engage in conflict 3.5 times an hour. Younger kids fight even more, with a fight happening every 10 minutes. Click for more information
♥~ Sixty-five percent of mothers and 70% of fathers exhibit a preference for one sibling over another. Talk to most siblings and they’ll tell you in a heartbeat who they believe their parents prefer. While most parents outwardly deny having a favorite child, studies have proven time and time again that this simply isn’t the case. Click for more information
♥~ Firstborns are generally smarter than the younger siblings, having on average, a three-point IQ advantage over the second sibling.. There are several theories on why this is the case, the strongest being that older siblings spend time teaching their younger siblings, thereby reinforcing their own understanding of concepts and ideas. Click for more information
♥~ Siblings tend to resemble each other in looks and intelligence but are quite different in personality. Researcher Robert Plomin discovered that when it comes to home we look and how our brains work, we’re usually pretty similar to our siblings. Yet when it comes to personality, even though we share similar genetic material and upbringings, brothers and sisters often could not be more different. Click for more information
♥~ Famous first born children: Walter Conkrite, Dan Rather, Oprah Winfrey, Susan Sarandon, Hilary Clinton. More than 1/2 of the U.S. Presidents were first born children. Including Obama. 21 of the 23 first astronauts were first born children. 2/3 of entrepreneurs are first born children
♥~ Famous middle born children: Ted Kennedy, Bill Gates, Tim Allen, Julia Roberts, Princess Diana, and Martin Luther King, Jr. Middle Children love to stand out and want to “do their own thing.”
♥~ Famous youngest children : Jay Leno, Ralph Nadar, Danny DeVito, Jim Carey, Billy Crystal and Janet Jackson. Tend to go against the norm. Make the biggest stirs in life. Know no boundaries.

One sibling fact that came up several times is that siblings make you shorter. A study of 14,000 British children found that those with three siblings were, on average, about one inch shorter. Having an older sibling can literally stunt your growth. Do you believe this? I have heard siblings blame each other for a lot of things over the year but I have never heard one scream, “And it’s all your fault I never reached 6 feet.” Come to think of it tho, my sweet mom does believe her growth was stunted by her siblings. The story she tells is that, on long road trips from Wisconsin to New Mexico she had to sit scrunched up in a slipper box. I have never heard any of her sibling confirm this tho…..

Dear Mom !!!! Here is a great idea from Musings by an ND Domer’s Mom! An Easter Egg Hunt for Trinket! Ok I put this PS on the wrong post and it make no sense…I will leave it here but add it to the correct post, as well. Long Day!!
GOLF DAY!! Are you kidding me?? What a great day. It should be a National Holiday. I am writing it on my calendar so I can take off work next year.
My sister and I have always been close but we could not be more different.
Enjoy GOLF DAY!
I will remind you a month earlier next year Mike! If anyone should take the day off and celebrate it should be YOU!

Great trip to San Diego. Loved spending time with my sister. We were not close when we were growing up but travel to see each other now (mom was right). Mike ^ I played golf in San Diego and the public course we played on was amazing. I bet you would love it.
Hope everyone has a great day!
So glad you had a great time! I might have to look into playing golf–Cole is caddying this summer so maybe I will take a few lessons. Who knows maybe I will finally find a sport I can play!
I am very different from my brother and sister. So different I use to be certain that I was adopted. We get along ok we just don’t have a lot in common especially since my parents died. I am the only one with kids which also makes more difficult. But in a pinch we would all be there for one another or at least I would….
Siblings are a complicated thing aren’t they? Sometimes I think good friends fill that role better than family relations. Just an observation of-course from an only that loved being an only.
Today is really GOLF DAY?? I’ll have to tell Domer! I’d be out there myself if the wind weren’t blowing like a wild thing! I have a younger sis — we’re convinced our parents played favorites. Our personalities are as different as can be and we don’t look alike either. We spent most of our growing up years fighting, but we’ve come to appreciate each other’s strengths and to realize we’re never going to get the big brother each of us wanted!
It really was GOLF DAY! You can have a do-over! My blog–My rules :-D.
