★~ National Sibling Day:

As I am an only child, I had to go to the El Morno masses for more information about this very special day.  The overall consensus seems to be that even though siblings hog all the attention, insist on looking at you when you would rather they didn’t, touch your things—or think about touching your things, and insist you were adopted, they are also the only other people in the whole wide world that understand how very odd your parents really are.

Today is the day for a Sibling Shout Out. Insist that while you will always be Mom’s favorite, you are really glad that your wish that they were never born wasn’t granted.

I asked friends who had siblings to share a few sib sentences with me . . . as it was recently explained to me, “My siblings share my growing memories and my grown-up dreams,” “I love my brother like a brother!”, “My sister was awful growing up and she is still awful, but over the years I have come to love that about her,”  “I would kill him, but then I would miss him so much,” “My sister and I have always been best friends, even when we couldn’t stand one another,”  and “My brother is the second best brother. I am the best brother of course

★~ Golfers Day:

Golfing is such a brilliant sport.  It doesn’t involve serious injuries, grueling practices, sweating profusely, or youth. And when the game is over everyone meets at the club house for a cocktails!

★~ Cinnamon Croissant Day:

The combination of a croissant and cinnamon is a treat that can’t be beat.

Although croissants were first created as far back as the 13th century, cinnamon has been around even longer. The spice is mentioned in Chinese writings in 2800 B.C. and it has since been used in various cultures around the world.

Ancient Egyptians often used cinnamon in their embalming process and ancient Romans valued it higher than silver and gold! During Medieval times, cinnamon was used to preserve meat as well as for medicinal purposes to treat sore throats.

Cinnamon’s popularity has continued over the years in the culinary world and it is one of the most often used spices in recipes.

To celebrate National Cinnamon Croissant Day, bake a batch of cinnamon croissants or head to Cinnabon and call it close enough.

♥~ 1841 – The New York Tribune began publication under editor Horace Greeley,who, some say, was the “single greatest journalistic influence in America.” Greeley edited the paper until his death in 1872.

♥~ 1849- Walter Hunt of New York City patented the safety pin Most of us still use the device which comes in a variety of sizes and is quite handy to have around. Mr. Hunt, however, didn’t think so he sold the patent for a $400. Bet he could just ‘stick’ himself for doing that…

♥~ 1912 – The Titanic set sail from Southampton, England with 2,228 passengers and life boats for only half that many.

♥~ 1916 – The Professional Golfers Association (PGA) held its first championship tournament . This first PGA Championship title went to Britisher, Jim Barnes. Barnes won the match-play event at Siwanoy golf course in Bronxville, NY and was presented with a trophy and the major share of the $2,580 purse.

♥~ 1953 – Eddie Fisher was discharged from the Army and arrived home to a nice paycheck of $330,000 in record royalties. Fisher sold 7 million records for RCA Victor while on furloughs. Any Time was just one of several hits recorded during his stint in the Army.

♥~ 1970 – Officially resigning from The Beatles, Paul McCartney disbanded the most influential rock group in history at a public news conference. The Beatles hit, Let It Be, was riding high on the pop charts. The last recording for the group, The Long and Winding Road (also from the documentary film Let It Be), would be number one for two weeks beginning on June 13, bringing to a close one of contemporary music’s greatest dynasties.

★~ Did You Know:

♥~ While siblings may not always get along, they do choose to pass a great deal of their free time with one another — more than anyone else in their life, in fact. By the time children reach age 11, they’re spending about 33% of their free time with siblings. Even as they grow into adolescence and get busy with their own lives, a Penn State University study found that they still spend about 11 hours a week with one another. In big families, these numbers can be even higher, with kids passing 17 hours with one another. Click for more information

♥~ One researcher found that brothers and sisters between 3 and 7 years old engage in conflict 3.5 times an hour. Younger kids fight even more, with a fight happening every 10 minutes. Click for more information

♥~ Sixty-five percent of mothers and 70% of fathers exhibit a preference for one sibling over another. Talk to most siblings and they’ll tell you in a heartbeat who they believe their parents prefer. One sibling fact that came up several times is that siblings make you shorter. A study of 14,000 British children found that those with three siblings were, on average, about one inch shorter. Having an older sibling can literally stunt your growth.  Do you believe this? I have heard siblings blame each other for a lot of things over the year but I have never heard one scream, “And it’s all your fault I never reached 6 feet.”  Come to think of it tho, my sweet mom does believe her growth was stunted by her siblings.  The story she tells is that,  on long road trips from Wisconsin to New Mexico she had to sit scrunched up in a slipper box. I have never heard any of her sibling confirm  this tho…..
