Planning ahead here are some suggestions for what to do with all of that leftover Halloween candy. As I said in Halloween Candy Horror, I would suggest just pitching it, but, for some of you, recycling is always the answer. Because I’m always striving to be helpful, I went looking for a few ideas, and here is what I found.
Skittles Vodka
By request, I found a recipe Joe used for Skittles Vodka. He made it one year using the plethora of Skittles that were leftover from Halloween. Flavored vodka is expensive; Joe was looking for an alternative, and we had a cheap bottle of vodka on hand.
7 1/2 c. of your favorite vodka
5 bags (2.17 oz. each) of original Skittles
5 Mason jars with lids
Separate each color of Skittles into its own jar. (Cole helped with this. Does that make us bad parents?) Joe is not a fan of grape Skittles, so he eliminated them.
Pour 1 1/2 c. of vodka into each jar of Skittles. Put a seal and a lid on each jar, and then give the jar a few shakes. Cole and I “oohed” and “ahed” at the shades of the rainbow that appeared; Joe “oohed” and “ahed” at the thought of sipping inexpensive flavored vodka.
Allow the jars to sit for 1 to 3 days. Shake them whenever you feel like it to dissolve the sugar. When the vodka is ready, most of the Skittles will be dissolved, and you’ll see a thick scum at the top of the liquid. You may see some chunks on the bottom of the jar, and that’s okay, too. That’s part of the sugar and the “other ingredients.”
When you are ready to use or chill the vodka, strain the contents of each jar through a piece of cheesecloth or an old t-shirt to get the funky stuff out. Strain them into a bowl and then poured the contents right back into the Mason jars.
Mix it up, and play with different mixers and juices.
The article that was clipped to Joe’s recipe gave these serving suggestions:
Red: Drink it straight, or mix it with club soda.
Yellow/green/orange: These are great with lemon-lime soda.
Apple Candy Bar Salad
This dessert is a great way to sneak some fruit into your diet. 😉
Here’s what you need:
– A few apples
– A bunch of candy bars (Snickers, Baby Ruth, and 3 Musketeers work best)
– Cool Whip
Cut the apples and candy bars up into small pieces, and mix them with thawed Cool Whip.
Butterfinger Layer Cake
1. Make (or buy) an angel food cake, and cut it into three layers.
2. Spread each layer with thawed Cool Whip.
3. Sprinkle crushed Butterfinger bars over the Cool Whip.
4. Put the layers back together to reassemble the cake.
5. Eat the cake immediately, or freeze it for later.
Candy Bar Cookies
Some candy bars make great cookies! Try this recipe with Baby Ruth, Snickers, or Milky Way chocolate bars or with other miscellaneous chocolate pieces.
3 c. sifted flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking powder
1 1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. softened butter
3/4 c. smooth peanut butter
2 eggs
1 1/4 tsp. vanilla
2/3 c. milk
5 small candy bars, chopped
Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F.
Cream the butter, peanut butter, and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs, mix well, and then add the vanilla.
Sift the dry ingredients together. Add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk. Stir in the cut-up candy bar pieces.
Spoon teaspoon-sized drops of dough onto greased cookie sheets. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes or until the cookies are golden brown.
Makes about 18 cookies.
With the exception of flavored Vodka, we have not tried any of these leftover candy, baked-good delights. However maybe YOU will give them a try! If you do, please share with us how they turn out OR you could always send Odd a sample package for review!

More Odd (stupid) uses for Vodka
The recipes are delectable, but not a delicious as that little niblet surrounded by pumpkins!
Thanks we did enjoy nibbling on those baby toes!

Is that you bobbing for apples? Loved the idea of the dip and you are so right about working a little fruit into the diet…the right way! 😀

I have made the cookies before and they were really tasty. It was a great way to use up Halloween candy and the kids loved baking the cookies.
Love the picture of that baby!!
You made cookies and did not SHARE. We need a do-over! 😀
Thanks for dropping by Odd.

While all of these recipes sound delicious, the candies called for never last long enough around my house to be used in a recipe. Guess I could try substituting a Tootsie-Roll or 50.
Yep, Diane that is why we have never tried making any of these sweet delights…nary a piece of left-over candy. We made the flavored vodka because Cole was to little to eat Skittles at the time.
Thanks for “connecting” with me on odd!

I might have to mug a tricker treater or two! These sound really good. The favored vodka sounds like it could be a cool “adult” Holiday gift!
Cheers!
Great Gift Idea. Geri–you are so clever. Make some and send it to me!

We decorated a Gingerbread house with left over Halloween candy. It was really cool looking. I will see if we still have the link.
J-
WOW. A gingerbread house made with left-over Halloween candy…I think that is brilliant. Easter Peeps could be turned into Christmas Wreaths…we could put little red bows around their necks…wait we never have any peeps left..oh well the Gingerbread house is still a fine, fine idea!
