★~ Cucumber Day:
Refreshing isn’t a term we often use to describe veggies, but the cucumber is one that can really cool you down during the summer heat. Cucumbers come in a lot of varieties too, like Armenian, diva, pickling, and Poona Kheera, just to name a few! A member of the gourd family, cucumbers are a surprising source of fiber–simply adding one to your salad is a great way to increase your fiber intake, because they come pre-packaged with extra water – and a bonus of vitamin C, potassium and magnesium too. Make sure you leave the skin when serving – it’s packed with nutrients!
★~ Sunscreen Day:
Summer is here, lather up and protect your skin from the sun’s harmful rays and keep it healthy and vibrant
★~ Grape Popsicle Day;
Little Frank Epperson was just eleven years old when he made a soft drink one winter night in 1905 by mixing soda water powder and water, a popular concoction at the time. He left a stirring stick in it and mistakenly left it on the porch overnight. The next morning, Frank found the concoction frozen to the stick, tasted it, and showed it to friends. Eighteen years later, in 1923, he applied for a patent on his “frozen ice on a stick.” He decided to call the novelty the Eppsicle ice pop and began producing the frozen treat in several different flavors. A father by then, his children had begun referring to the Eppsicle as the Popsicle. That name has stuck. Today is called Grape Popsicle Day because that was the first flavor Frank Eppsicle made, but you can celebrate Popsicle Day with your favorite flavor!
~ Two billion Popsicle are sold annually.
~ Cherry is the No. 1 Popsicle flavor
~ The twin popsicle was invented during the great depressions, so two children could share one popsicle for just a nickel

★~ Good to Know: Cucumbers Tips and Trick
♥~ Cucumbers can provide that quick pick-me-up. Add thin slices of cucumber to a pitcher of water or water bottle and refrigerate. You can also spruce it up with seasonal berries and melon or make Mint-Cucumber Mojitos
♥~ Garnish something with Cucumber Roses.
♥~ Combine cucumbers and apples to make an exfoliating sugar bath scrub . Drink some cucumber water while you’re in the tub and place some chilled cucumber slices over your eyes for a complete spa experience!
♥~ If you rub a cucumber slice along your bathroom mirror, it will eliminate the fog and provide a soothing, spa-like fragrance.
♥~ Make a Cucumber Shark
♥~ Place a few slices of cucumber in a small pie tin and your garden will be free of pests all season long. The chemicals in the cucumber react with the aluminum to give off a scent undetectable to humans but drive garden pests crazy and make them flee the area.
♥~ Cucumbers cause the collagen in your skin to tighten, firming up the outer layer and reducing the visibility of cellulite. Works great on wrinkles too. Would Cleopatra lie to us?
♥~ Over indulge? Munch a few cucumbers slice before bed and the sugar, B vitamins and electrolytes in cucumbers will replenish the essential nutrients the body lost and help to keep you headache free. Would Mark Anthony lie to us?
♥~ Looking to fight off that afternoon or evening snacking binge? Cucumbers have been used for centuries by European trappers, traders and explorers for quick meals to thwart off starvation.
♥~ Rub a freshly cut cucumber over your shoes for a quick shine, its chemicals will provide a quick and durable shine that not only looks great but also repels water. (Would Dr. Scholls lie to us?)
♥~ Out of WD 40 and need to fix a squeaky hinge? Take a cucumber slice and rub it along the problematic hinge, and voila, the squeak is gone! It’s a temporary fix nothing can replace WD40. Nothing. But in a pinch it works.
♥~ Stressed out and don’t have time for massage, facial or visit to the spa? Cut up an entire cucumber and place it in a boiling pot of water, the chemicals and nutrients from the cucumber will react with the boiling water and released in the steam, creating a soothing, relaxing aroma that has been shown to reduce stress in new mothers and college students during final exams.
♥~. Just finish a business lunch and realize you don’t have gum or mints? However, all is not lost! You do have a cucumber in your purse! Take a slice of cucumber and press it to the roof of your mouth with your tongue for 30 seconds to eliminate bad breath, the photochemical will kill the bacteria in your mouth responsible for causing bad breath.
♥~ Looking for a ‘green’ way to clean your faucets, sinks or stainless steel? Take a slice of cucumber and rub it on the surface you want to clean, it remove the tarnish and bring back the shine, without leaving streaks.

Last night I received an e-mail from my credit card company informing me a Starbucks had been purchased in Honolulu, Hi and I knew my teen had arrived. It’s about a 10 hour flight from Chicago with a 5 hour time difference so it was a long day of travel. From Honolulu they hopped a plane and took a 25 minute flight to Maui where they will start their trip. Cell phones are collected at the start of the trip so I’ll have to wait until the weekend for my first real update. In the meantime I am catching up at home.
Wishing everyone a terrific Tuesday but if it falls short of your expectations feel free to rant (it’s Rant Tuesday) and have Popsicle! A popsicle makes everything better.
♥~
Good Morno,
I had my first popsicle in years last summer on one of the Popsicle days and it was very refreshing. I’ll add a box to the freezer.
Cucumbers sounds like a Jack of all vegetables. I like them in salads but had no idea I could tighten my skin, polish the sink or fix a squeaky hinge with one. I’ll have to buy a couple.
Glad your teen arrived and you are back! Have a good one.
Good. Life is just so much more fun with the occasional popsicle.
Cucumbers are very handy! Next time you whip out a cucumber and fix a squeaky hinge people will be so impressed! I’m sure of it.
Good to be back.
Thanks for the cucumber tips — since one never knows when one is going to need a bit of help, I guess we all ought to start tucking a cucumber into our purses!
I guess I must be odd. Cherry isn’t my favorite Popsicle flavor. Grape is.
Glad Cole and his classmates arrived safely. Having your teen out of pocket for several days running isn’t going to be easy, but I have faith you can do it. Besides, you’re going to be soooo busy playing catch-up that you won’t have time to worry. Have I made you feel better yet?!?
Well, it would be a bad idea. Having a cucumber at the ready will enable to handle most of life’s crises from starvation to shoes that need a quick shine.
Much better. Thank you. It doesn’t hurt that we both needed a bit of a break, either.
I loved the cucumber bits! Who knew? I do know that our fav upscale restaurant here in the Mason (as the locals call it) features cucumbers in their water glasses which provides an interesting different alternative to the blasé lemon in the water glass!
So glad that the ATM /debit card tracking system works so well for Cole GPS. Glad they made it safe and sound and are doing good deeds all over the place.
I love cucumber in my water. It does give it a “spa” taste. And this morning I tried freshening my breath with one before I brushed my teeth and it did work!
Yep, life is good when you are sipping a Starbucks in Honolulu. They have been so fortunate to work with wonderful people on all their service trips and to do work that really counts. Although Cole still has nightmares about the tile not being straight in one of the New Orleans house he worked in—- 😀
Didn’t realize cucumbers are so versatile! Need to keep that in mind.
Good for your cc company to contact you on an *odd* purchase.
Glad the seniors arrived albeit tired. I like the idea of the chaperones collecting their devices.
Keep busy!
Paypal sends you an alert every time you make a purchase. Which is fun when I send the card with Cole. Funny, he never seems to resent the intrusion when he is spending my money. 😀
It’s worked out really well to keep the trips device free except on the weekend between the trips. The kids even find it agreeable to not have to worry about a phone. And they can always use a chaperones phone if they want to call home. It’s harder on the parents. :-D. In the old days nobody was use to a “check-in” but not we are and so ….
I like cucumbers but was surprised to learn I could polish my shoes with one.
