October. Rabbit! Rabbit!
In a few short hours the clock will strike midnight and a new day and month will roll over! And you know what that means… It’s time to prepare for the first of October and all that can be yours by saying “rabbit, rabbit!”
The first words out of your mouth on the first day of October must be “rabbit, rabbit”. This is doubly important if your birthday occurs this month. Saying “Rabbit, rabbit” will ensure good luck all month long.
Rabbits have been associated with luck of one sort or another – usually good luck – for more than 2,000 years. However the tradition of Rabbit Rabbit appears to have started in the the early 1900s when it appeared in written references. Most people believe the tradition began as a British thing and migrated to the U.S.
There have been different variations on the rabbit rabbit theme, some people say rabbit, rabbit. In the U.K., it’s quite common to say white rabbits. Gilda Radner was known to say bunny, bunny on the first day of the month; to ensure, as she put it, “laughter, love and peace.” Another aficionado of this practice was Franklin Delano Roosevelt. He was known to carry a rabbit’s foot during the 1932 election. And supposedly, he also said rabbit, rabbit at the beginning of every month Simon Winchester, the writer, went for 696 months before he forgot to say white rabbits.
Just one more bit of information from my personal experience file. If you wake up October 1st, jump out of bed ready to greet October with a big Rabbit Rabbit, and land in dog poop the first words out of your mouth may not be rabbit rabbit. Do not despair. All is not lost! You can say “black rabbit” right before you can go to sleep; or you can say “tibbar, tibbar.” Tibbar, tibbar is, of-course, Rabbit Rabbit spelled backwards. This antidote can be applied to any mishaps or forgetfulness that may keep Rabbit Rabbit from being the first words out of your mouth.
Happy October! One of my favorite months.
Odd Loves Company,
Thanks for the reminder. We talked about it at dinner. And I wrote a big reminder note.” I love October too.
Cheers to a great month.
Cheers back at you!
Already? My daughter is suppose to stay on top of these things. I’ll try to remember.
BTW. I want to know more about Spitz the cat who loves to swim.
Spritz is awesome. He even has little cat swimming goggles.
Happy October.
Rabbit Rabbit! I remembered. Happy October.
A big carrot crunch for you! Happy October.
I’m up late. 8 minute count down. Thanks for the reminder. October is an outstanding month.
Outstanding October. I like it!
I remembered (thanks to writing myself a note!) Happy Oct. 1 — Rabbit Rabbit. I’m glad I didn’t step in dog poop first thing, either, although I remember one Rabbit Rabbit day forgetting to say it because the Sheltie decided to greet me with vomit — yuck!!
Happy October! I agree there are much better ways to meet and great way the month than poop and vomit. Fortunately this month started off much better!
AWOL. Computer issues & preparing mentally & physically for a trip I’d rather not take. At least Nik will have a fun time at the farm!
Remembered rabbit, rabbit too late. Again. Nik should have me covered with this rabbit business since she’s been eating it for a good month now. Or perhaps not….
It was very humid today & I think tomorrow as well. Keep telling myself this will end. I’ll definitely enjoy the temps out east though.
Good evening!
We missed you. Glad you dropped in. Yep, Nik has you covered. Sort of.
Our pups even vacation better than us!
Fall is falling fast. I love it.
