★~ Today’s Quote: It is absurd to divide people into good and bad. People are either charming or tedious. ~ Oscar Wilde
★~ Great American Smokeout
The American Cancer Society marks the Great American Smokeout on the third Thursday of November each year by encouraging smokers to use the date to make a plan to quit, or to plan in advance and quit smoking that day. By quitting — even for one day — smokers will be taking an important step towards a healthier life – one that can lead to reducing cancer risk.
Tobacco use remains the single largest preventable cause of disease and premature death in the US, yet about 42 million Americans still smoke cigarettes — a bit under 1 in every 5 adults. As of 2012, there were also 13.4 million cigar smokers in the US, and 2.3 million who smoke tobacco in pipes.
★~ Absurdity Day:
Celebrate today in an absurd manner. Or just laugh and cringe at all the absurdities that have been in the news lately – there is a lot to choose from. . .
What is on your absurd list?
★~ Peanut Butter Fudge Day:
Peanut butter has been a staple of U.S. families for more than a century. It can be served in a sandwich, mixed with ice cream, combined with chocolate, or as fudge! Peanut butter fudge is a divine treat for anybody who loves peanut butter.
One claim of origin for this dessert dates back to the 1800s when people used the word “fudge” to mean “cheat” or “mess up.” One day, a chef accidentally “fudged” a batch of caramel he was trying to make, inventing fudge as we know and love it today.
★~ Today in History:
♥~ 1929 – Leo Reisman and his orchestra recorded Happy Days are Here Again for Victor Records. The classic was recorded just three weeks after the stock market crash plunging the nation into the Great Depression. Timing is everything.
♥~ 1947 – Britain’s future Queen, Princess Elizabeth, married Philip Mountbatten, Duke of Edinburgh, at London’s Westminster Abbey. The world listened on radio.
♥~ 1982 – Actress Drew Barrymore became the first 7-year-old to host Saturday Night Live.
♥~ 1984 – “You deserve a break today…” 35 years and 11 months after the very first McDonald’s hamburger was sold, the 50 billionth burger was made by Edward Rensi, president of McDonald’s
♥~ 2008 – An Australian ‘political’ party, the Sex Party was launched at Sexpo, an annual sex exhibition in Melbourne. The party had already gathered the required 500 members and planned to register with the electoral commission (which approved it in Aug 2009).

We are taking our Day Campers to Prairie Wolf this morno while Vickie runs camp at home. I haven’t figured out my “cold clothes” yet, but I’m working on it. Lots of layer and at the same time trying to keep the bulk to a minimum. Hopefully, I’ll find the perfect combination before spring.
Have a great day!
Odd Loves Company,
Quit smoking shortly after my son was born. I didn’t want my kid to smell like an ashtray.
Only one kind of fudge -chocolate.
Absurd – Manson’s pending marriage.
Glad the bear was rescued. Good use of the claw.
Have a good one.
Good for you! Cigarette smoke is so lingering.
Chocolate fudge with nuts. Almost time for my Mom to make me some.
Agree about Manson. The girl is a nut case.
The claw—reminded me of that arcade game where you try to snatch the stuffed toy with the claw….in this case the bear.
I’ve never been a smoker. Thank goodness because I’m not sure i’d have the will power to quit. I’ve heard those fake cigs are helping a lot of people but I don’t know anything about them.
My MIL makes a good peanut butter fudge but I still like chocolate better.
I agree with Mike the whole Manson thing along with KK ass are at the top of my absurd list.
Such a cute bear video. Looking forward to showing it to the kids.
Button up and have fun at park.
I’ve heard good things about the fake cigs too. A friend is using them to quit and so far so good.
Marrying Charles Manson – can you even imagine. YUCK.
The bear video is cute. Silly old bear.
I’m with ^Mike^ — fudge should be chocolate. ‘Nuff said.
Looks like Illinois finally got a state treasurer, more than TWO WEEKS after the election. Golly, you’d think we were still counting ballots by hand!
I have zero desire to be outside in this cold. Zero. Dallas, on the other hand, relishes a long trip out, where he rolls in the snow and terrorizes the poor squirrels who weren’t smart enough to gather winter food before all this weather came in!
Glad we are all in agreement on this one.
You know, for me the worst part about going out in the cold is thinking about it. We spent two Tuesday at PW in temps that are in the 20’s – about 3 hours each visit. And I have not been cold as long as I keep moving -we walk a lot and I layer up. I’m also pretty comfortable – I don’t wear wool or anything scratchy. I’m not sure what it will be like when it drops another 20 degrees but for now it’s beautiful, very refreshing :-D, and so much fun. And of-course our labs and long coated dogs are in heaven.
Chocolate fudge is my first choice but I probably would not turn down a piece of peanut butter fudge. 🙂 Not only is it the Great American Smoke Out Day it is also my sweet great niece Harper’s 3rd birthday. I sent her a set of Disney princess teapots which I hope will be a hit. 🙂
How could you not love a set of Disney princess teapots? What FUN!
Yum……peanut butter fudge! I agree with all ^ that chocolate is better.
The Joe Walsh video…….”It’s hard to leave when you can’t find the door!!!” Have always chuckled at that line.
It amazes me that people still smoke in this day & age. Like any other addiction I suppose.
Off the top of my head, I can’t think of an original absurdity so I’ll tag along with Mike’s ^ also. I just don’t understand these women….
It’s now warming up here after several days of lows in the 30s. Unheard of in November. I rather like it myself!
Kudos to the guys for rescuing the bear in distress. Glad they came upon it when they did.
Know you had fun at Prairie Wolf!
Hope your temps give you an opportunity to enjoy hoodies and sweatpants!
That is a great Joe Walsh line.
Prairie Wolf has become the highlight of my week.
