~ March 13th is Ear Muff Day. Big-eared Chester Greenwood is the father of the ear muff. Greenwood patented the “Champion Ear Protector” on March 13, 1877. It later became known as “ear mufflers,” and was eventually shortened to “ear muffs.” Ear Muff Day is celebrated by wearing ear muffs. Living in Chicago, I wonder if March is the best day to celebrate this odd holiday. Wouldn’t it be more appreciated if it was held in January or February? The other thing that bothers me is this holiday is not inclusive. What about my friends in warmer clients? They might be able to wear a pair of ear muffs in January but never in March. In fact, Odd might have to file a report with the ACLU claiming Ear Muff Day is clearly discriminatory against those who live in warmer climates. We will be heard!

Back in the days…my mother was everyones favorite ear piercer- Ice cube to the lobe, a little rubbing alcohol swabbed over a sewing needle and a stern promise that if you screamed or cried she was only doing one ear. She did not pierce my ears, my aunt the RN pierced my ears with same basic equipment but my ears got infected. I blamed it on my aunt; my aunt blamed it on the fact that I swapped out my 14k gold balls for cheep hoops much to soon. Two sides to every story;I’m sticking to mine.

Olivia Newton John—OMG have not thought of her in years.
Here is an ear wax fact for you- your body makes more earwax when you are afraid than when you aren’t. The body produces about 3 pounds of ear wax in lifetime.
I can not remember who told me that or if I read it….But who knew it would be so relevant some day. 😀

I do own red ear muffs, my ears are double pierced, and they were pierced when I was a teen at one of those mall places.
If Calista (actress with big ears) asked me I would strongly suggest wearing her hair down and skipping the big earrings.

My then Brother-in-law pierced my ears with the ice cube and needle. I did have minor infection, but with alcohol and
neosporin, I healed. My favorite earrings are my diamond
hoops that I wear everyday.
Ear muffs…..Yes, I have a pair of purple ones and a pr. of black ones. I hate wearing them because they make my ears itch.
As for ear hair……..YUK!!!!
Carol I could not agree more–itchy ears are the worst! YUCK. Well, unless you had itchy ears and ear hair! Double YUCK!

I waited until I was 22 to get my ears pierced…my ex-husband and I got it done together! When my mom was 48, I went with her to get her ears pierced. I wear earrings every day…if I forget to put them on, I go out and buy a pair…I feel naked without them!
