Thank You El Morno Friend Kelly, for this great picture of this Morn’s Chicago Skyline. We could not help but wonder if it was a cloud formation, or cloaked alien mothership here to enslave us all….

Busy. Busy. Busy. It’s that time of the year again—as we are move towards the 4th of July, campers are checking in as their owners check out for summer vacations. It’s all good. I love meeting and greeting my tail-wagging summer campers, knowing once again that together we shall over come the 4th of July.

Today is National Waffle Iron Day, but waffles on a weekday can be a little complicated unless you plan ahead or buy the frozen ones. So, go ahead and whip up some waffles over the weekend. Did you know: The waffle iron was the inspiration and maker of the first NIKE sole/tread? Bob Knight made it on his waffle iron in his garage in Portland Oregon. He then used that tread to gather investors for his dream to make the perfect running shoe: NIKE (Thank you El Morno friend Nancy Baird!)

It’s also Almond Buttercrunch Day, which is a combination of toffee and chocolate sprinkled with some toasted almonds. Enjoy an Almond Roca or scoop up a bowl of Buttercrunch ice cream. Or, if you feel especially deserving, have both the Roca and the ice cream!

Camera Day is every day for me! My cameras and equipment make me look like I know more about photography than I do, which isn’t a whole lot. I love fiddling with camera settings, lenses, and new technology. For me, though, the really important thing is to catch the moment and be able to share it with family and friends. My current challenge is organizing my pictures so that I can quickly find the one I want when I want it. For more camera facts click  Camera Day 2011.

Today is  the fifth anniversary of the iPhone — when the first iPhone went on sale, I was there and I’ve had the latest iPhone ever since. My funniest iPhone moment was standing in front of the Genius Bar complaining about the fact that my new iPhone dropped calls. The Genius explained that it was not Apple’s fault but AT&T’s fault for not having enough towers. Of course, when I had called AT&T earlier in the day, they blamed Apple. I have learned that the best way to handle an Apple Genius is to just keep repeating the issue- I was sold a phone that disconnected calls. Finally, the Genius, frustrated that he couldn’t move the blame to AT&T or focus my attention on the phone’s great camera, told me his mom’s iPhone had great reception in Arizona. I told him that was wonderful and wished I had a working phone so that I could call my realtor and arrange to move immediately. Without missing a beat, the Genius handed me his phone. I was amused.

Happy birthday to the man who put stars in our eyes (or something like that…), George Ellery Hale (1868) the American astronomer that developed the Hale telescope. If today is your birthday—Happy birthday to you!

Hope you have a terrific day! Over the next week, El Morno will be here sooner or later, better late than never as we welcome the 4th of July in with a bang and a bark!

  1. RAIN! We may actually get a few drops today. I don’t have an iphone yet but our phone contracts end soon and I might upgrade to an iphone. I’m not really into the phone but having a better camera would be nice. Does that make any sense at all?
Waffle’s for dinner might work since I haven’t a clue what we are having and the kids are bound to get hungry at some point.

    Enjoy your Friday!

    • I-phone camera is awesome. Especially if you don’t want to lug stuff camera stuff around. We love breakfast for dinner–so don’t waffle just do it!

  2. That sky is something else. Hope if they snatch you up they will let you take your computer!

    Waffles and golf this weekend.

    TGIF!

  3. Great picture! I love weather when it’s not too fierce. I have my grandmother’s waffle iron and while it’s very heavy it has been making great waffles for at least three generations of kids. I serve them with warm maple syrup
My pup doesn’t seem to mind the fourth of July as much as she use to something being a little deaf can be a good thing.

    Take care.

    • What a great gift to hand down! One of the best things about Waffle irons is they are so easy to use and seem to last like iron. We always use warm maple syrup too!

Yep…a little deaf around the 4th is very good thing.

  4. Wow! That is one mighty rain cloud! If you get abducted be sure to share pictures back home. Inquiring minds want to know! The iphone is only 5 years old? I guess because of all the updates it seems so much older. I bought one two years ago and love it. The phone is ok, but the camera is great and I love the weather apps. 😀
So glad it is FRIDAY! See you sometime over the weekend.
