★~Meet Susie:  Susie, or Susie Cutie as we call her at camp, is a Scottish Deerhound. She is fun, friendly, very quick, and a champion counter surfer and pie snatcher. Whole pies. Susie does not retrieve (anything, ever), but she does love to chase things and is excellent at the game of tag. When she wants to show us how much she loves us, she clacks her teeth at us, and if I clack back at her, she rewards me with a tail wag and a silly human grin. If you want to learn more about the Scottish Deerhound, here is a wonderful account of living with a Deerhound.

★~ Today’s Quote:

Our aim is not to make the child understand, and still less to force him to memorize, but so to touch his imagination as to enthuse him to his innermost core. Maria Montessori

★~ Blue Moon:

A blue moon occurs when there’s a second full moon in one calendar month. The full moon cycle is 29.5 days so a blue moon only happens once in a ‘blue moon.’  It won’t happen again until July 2015.

While tonight’s blue moon is significant due to its rarity, it also happens to fall on the same day as a private memorial service for Neil Armstrong. The late astronaut, who died last Saturday in Ohio at age 82, was the first man to walk on the moon in 1969.

Armstrong’s family has suggested paying tribute to him by looking at the moon and giving it a wink.

Some people also call tonights moon a “wishing moon” so don’t forget to make your wish!

★~ Rabbit Rabbit:

Bunny Rabbit On Driveway

Today is the last day of August and you know what that means don’t you?  It’s time to prepare for the first of the month and all that can be yours by simple saying  ”rabbit, rabbit!” The first words out of your mouth on the first day of September  must be “rabbit, rabbit.”

★~ Eat Outside Day:

Can you believe August is over? The summer days are dwindling fast and soon we will be saying, Cold enough for you?  But not yet. Today is the perfect day to eat lunch on your patio, plan a picnic dinner in the park, enjoy a popsicle on your porch. Some picnic favorites are  fresh fruit, grilled perfect- picnic chicken or vegetable kabobs, don’t forget the crusty bread and cheese.:

★~ National Trail Mix Day:

Trail Mix and I have a sordid past together.  So I’ll  just stick to my Hershey bars and encourage you to munch on the same snack that the Ancient nomads, and Natives Americans enjoyed for many moons  according to Foodtimeline. Try Hit the Trail Mix, or Blaze-a-Trail Mix . I  wonder where the Nomads and Native Americans get the M&M’S? And don’t forget your pup on that long walk!

★~Did You Know: Astrologically speaking…..

The full blue moon in Pisces is special because of its ability to melt boundaries between people. It’s all about compassion and feeling empathy for others, and it’s a time when we are connected with many unseen spiritual forces.

Now is a time to forgive people, let go of worry and grudges, step back from the pressures of your daily routine, and tap into something larger than yourself. Imagination will be heightened now, so create freely and often.

It’s also important to note that the full moon in Pisces is forming an opposition aspect to the Virgo sun, which could add a critical element to the full moon’s energy.

Virgo is very precise and detail oriented, whereas Pisces is more dreamy and abstract. Therefore, this opposition could pit compassion against criticism, free-flowing thoughts against particular details, and going with the flow against over-analyzing everything.

The key is to use Virgo’s energy to pay attention and watch the details while Pisces energy floats you along the more scenic route of life.

Speaking of blue …I loved this picture of the Blue Footed Boobie: Boobies live off the western coasts of Central and South America. The Galápagos Islands population includes about half of all breeding pairs of blue-footed boobies.

TGIF. Last Day of the month. is it over already?  Don’t forget to Rabbit Rabbit!

  2. Morno!
Great looking dog! RIP Neil Armstrong.
We take trail mix when we golf. It’s not too bad. Not too great either. But the salty kind goes good with beer.
That bird is neat. I love his feet.
I will try to remember Rabbit Rabbit

  3. Always a little sad when labor day arrives–i know it’s not the official end of summer but for those of us use to growing up with a school year that ran between Labor Day and Memorial day it always meant the end of summer fun.
Love Susie. She is a cutie! Blue moon! Hope it’s a clear sky tonight. I will give a little wave to Neil Armstrong..
Have a fantastic Friday and be careful out there if you are driving anywhere.

  4. Love Deerhounds! If I had the space I would have one or two in a heartbeat. I was driving out in the country one afternoon and saw two of hounds running and playing in this large fenced field.I had to pull over and watch…it was just awesome. The hounds were so fast and agile for such big dogs. I want one!
Looking forward to howling at the moon tonight. 😀

  5. I’ve never seen a live deerhound. Interesting look, especially those long legs! Kind of goat-like, but not in a bad way. I love the boobie’s blue suede shoes! Thanks for the facts on the moon — when I was born, so they tell me, the sun was in Virgo and the moon in Pisces. That probably tells you all you really need to know about me!

    • A dreamer that is a stickler for details 😀 among other things of-course–all good. I never thought of Susie looking like a goat until it was mentioned here but she does! Or some sort of mystical creature. She is a camp favorite, fer shore….

  6. i think its so cool that the memorial for Neil Armstrong is coincide with this blue moon! And I will look at it and wink! 🙂
Susie is adorable!! Never seen a Deerhound before.

  7. rabbit, rabbit…there, I got it in just 4 min. after 12:00 a.m.When I first looked at Suzie I thought it was a mountain goat with the way her fur falls in front of her like that. Very unique and a loving look on her face. The moon is being hidden by clouds tonight, darn it. But I will give a wink anyway.
