★~ International Geek Pride Day:

Geek

Reasons to Geek Out:

It’s Towel Day, the day two weeks after Douglas Adams’ passed in 2001 in which fans celebrate by keeping a towel handy a la The Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy.

It’s the anniversary of the very first Star Wars movie, Episode IV: A New Hope, which was released on May 25, 1977.

It marks the Glorious 25th of May, on which fans of Terry Pratchett’s Discworld books wear lilac and raise awareness of Alzheimer’s, following the author’s 2007 diagnosis.

Geek Pride Day has been celebrated in dorky masses since 2006, when it originated in Spain as “Día del Orgullo Friki.” (That’s “Day of Geek Pride” in Spanish, natch.) The Internet did the rest, and today it’s an (unofficial) celebration all over the world.

★~ National Wine Day:

Wine glasses

Wine has been an important part of human history and culture for thousands of years. Regardless of whether you prefer red, white, pinot, or cabernet, everyone can appreciate today’s celebration.

Archaeologists in Speyer, Germany discovered the oldest bottle of wine in existence while excavating two Roman stone sarcophaguses in 1867. The bottle dates back to at least 325 AD! It is now on display at the History Museum of the Pfalz in Germany.

To celebrate National Wine Day Monkey Business is giving a way a cute, collectable Robot to spark up your dinner and make the best out of your your wine corks. Geeky at it finest. Read below to find out more about this FUN giveaway. Wine included!

It is cloudy in Chicago, and still a little nippy. My plans are to hang out with my campers, and maybe paint the picnic table purple. If it doesn’t rain. If you have a camper with me and they come back looking like this…well what can I say..other than I’m little dangerous with a can of paint in my hand.

What are your plans?

  1. Morno,
I am not a big wine drinker, but my sister enjoys a glass or two or..white wine. Not a geek, but I do remember the first Star wars movie. It was a big deal.
    That purple poodle is interesting.
Resting this morno after a vigorous golf game yesterday afternoon, but I’m going back out for nine holes this afternoon.
    Have a good one.

    • The purple poodle is fabulous!
Hope you had a good afternoon game. Are you picnicking with your sis tomorrow or Monday?

  2. Good Morno!
Wow that purple poodle is certainly purple. I like it in an Odd sort of way. Not for an everyday look, but for special poodle occasions.
Love white wine. Bella is cute. What a great stocking stuffer or a little something to take as a hostess gift–we could dress up the cork after we open the wine. I need more of a life outside of my kids, don’t I?
Fun family and friend weekend. Looking forward to drinking wine and flipping burgers. It looks like the weather is going to give us a break!
    Enjoy your day!

    • You are so right the purple poodle is festive!
Dressing up your cork is fun. We have one of Bellas siblings.
Hope your weather holds and your burgers are flipped to perfection!

  3. Morno,
I will be drinking white wine and laughing and whining with a girlfriend that is in town for the weekend. We started last night. I’m a little geeky and proud of it.
Did the owner of the poodle have purple hair too? Or would that have been to much?
    Have a good day!

    • Have fun with your friend and wine and whine the time away—that is what girl friends are for, right?
No, the purple poodle owner did not have matching hair, but it would have been a nice touch!

  4. I like a nice Carmenere. It’s not that common, so if not available and I feel like red I go for a pinot noir. If white, my personal fav is Pinot Grigio Santa Margherita. Not because I know anything about wines, but because when I was young, carefree, and backpacking through Europe one summer I visited the locale, which was when I first tried it. So, fond memories. 🙂

    • I think that is the best way to “know wine.” Joho (original chef and owner of the Everest in Chicago, Paris in Vegas among other restaurants) and his wife are Waldorf friends and he once told me when I mentioned that I knew nothing about wine that the best wine is the wine I like. I know that is an extremely simple rule of thumb, but I appreciate the advice from someone that obviously knows a lot about wine. I still would rather have a little bottle of coke, tho 😀

  5. Daughter and grandson coming out Sunday and we will gather at my son’s for picnic. Better not rain until we are done either. Will be playing with the new puppy “Chester”. Little ball of fur!

    • A new pup how exciting. I love the name. I will keep my fingers and toes crossed that you all enjoy a beautiful day!

  6. not a wine connoisseur at all. guess i have never been what might be called cultured. my two european friends are trying their darnest though.
running around to surrounding cities doing errands. it always feels so good to cross items off the to-do & to-get lists!
