The Pina Colada is the pine-appley, coco-nutty cocktail that originated in San Juan, Puerto Rico,, Ramon ‘Monchito’ Marrero stirred up the first Pina Colada in 1954 . Ola!

Grilled cheese sandwiches and a picnic on the patio with my best bear Fred. Or maybe I’ll just give him a dusting off and a hug. He’s not much of a picnic bear these days. Cole’s Teddy Bear Picnic book made through another year of purging stuff and remains in our “keeper library” along with his Poo Bear. We love our bears. Well, actually, Coles favorite stuffed animal is an alligator but that’s a whole other story and it’s not Alligator picnic day.

Celebrate Teddy Bear Picnic Day by packing a few peanut butter and jelly sandwiches or frying up a grilled cheese sandwich and heading to your favorite park or backyard patio table for a bear picnic, or just giving someone you love a big old bear hug.

(El Morno will be delayed at this point because Cole and I have a terrible craving for a coffee cake so we are heading out to the local bakery. We want one like my sweet Mom makes but we’ll have to make do with a bakery coffee cake. Sorry for the delay but these things happen when you write in real time)

Happy-Animal

When researchers survey 5000 people from 83 countries, they learned we’re happiest when we’re having sex, exercising, or socializing.

“Using smart phones, Matthew A. Killingsworth and Daniel T. Gilbert of Harvard University collected a large sample of experiences and associated happiness. They also measured “mind wandering.” Their database currently contains nearly a quarter million samples from about 5,000 people from 83 different countries who range in age from 18 to 88 and who collectively represent every one of 86 major occupational categories. Their findings confirm that happiness levels are highest during sex, exercise, or socializing, or while the mind is focused on the here and now, and low during commuting or while the mind is wandering.” [Engineering Happiness: A New Approach for Building a Joyful Life]

In other words if you want to turn a frown upside down: have sex, exercise, socialize, smile, work math problems, take a nap. But maybe not all at the same time.

It’s not my sweet Mom’s coffee cake but it is very good. I wish that I could share a piece with you. Apple, cinnamon and an amazing flakey powdered sugar crust.

I’m off to plunder and purge…We want to make some changes to our camp dorm room. Yesterday, we donated boxes of paper back books that had been hidden away for years to a local hospital library.

Speaking of hospitals,  El Morno friend, Carol landed in one yesterday with chest pains. Please think good thoughts for her speedy recovery!

And away I go. Hope your day is marvelous.

  1. Morno,
I could go for a piece of that coffee cake. It looks good.
Pina Colada’s don’t top my drink list but I’ve enjoyed them a time or two.
Good luck with your clean up. Maybe you’ll find some buried treasure. I use to tell that to the kids when we cleaned the garage. When I hid a few small bills it kept them motivated.
    Have a good one.

    • Oh gosh, I wish you ALL could drop by for coffee and coffee cake.
Buried treasure that is a motivating thought. And you were a very clever dad.

  2. Poor Carol — hope she’s feeling better soon!

That coffee cake looks GOOD. And I love powdered sugar, apples, and cinnamon.

A Teddy Bear Picnic sounds like fun — the weather’s certainly cooperating. I’ll probably just give Dallas a big hug though — he’s a dog that needs LOTS of LOVE!

  3. Hope you’re feeling better Carol. Godspeed.
The Pina Colada was a favorite drink way back when. Could drink one or two now if given the opportunity! I also liked the song which wasn’t really called the Pina Colada song!
It feels good to rid yourself of stuff. Need to do it myself. Get it all finished?
    Good day!

    • I once shared several pitchers of Pina Colada with a friend back when. . .they were more potent than I had imagined. Lucky that I lived within walking distance of the restaurant.
Nope not all finished but making end roads. Each year I move out another layer of stuff.

  4. Prayers for Carol ! Hospitals are not a fun place to land.
Teddy Bear picnic sounds good but I might have to have a piece of that coffee cake instead of a sandwich—looks lovely! And yummy.
Your cleaning project seems to be going so well. You and Cole are a great team when it comes to this stuff. I am very impressed. Here’s to renovating!

    • Wouldn’t it be fun to share a piece of coffee cake and some tea or coffee?
We are moving through it slowly but surely. We work well together mostly because I follow directions so well. 😀
