★~ Mutts Day:

The word mutt is used to describe a dog that comes from a mix of two or more different dog breeds.  Rather than creating a celebration for one type of dog over another type of dog, let’s use the word mutt to celebrate our own unique, special pups that have value far beyond their breeding (whatever that might be!). Celebrate today by noticing and appreciating the qualities that make your precious fur-ball unique and special to you.

★~ Raspberry Cake Day: 

Raspberries are sweet summertime berries, which are being harvested right now.   I love the combination of chocolate with raspberry, but after Cheesecake Day, I went looking for a lighter recipe and found one for a raspberry buttermilk cake. I don’t want to bake, or turn the oven on to 400⁰F, but I am still tempted to give it a try; or I might just ice a piece of toast with some raspberry preserves and call it a cake.

Enjoy a piece of raspberry cake in celebration of one of summers best sweet fruity treats–the Raspberry.

♥~ 1932 – The George Washington 25-cent coin was put into circulation by the U.S. Mint on this day.

♥~ 1955 – Marilyn Bell of Toronto, Canada, at age 17, became the youngest person to swim the English Channel.

♥~ 1971 – The first men to ride in a vehicle on the moon did so on this day in the LRV (lunar rover vehicle). This example of a lunar dune buggy carried Apollo 15 astronauts David R. Scott and James B. Irwin for five miles on the lunar surface. Their first stop at the rim of Elbow Crater was televised back to Earth to millions of viewers. The moon ride lasted two hours and the astronauts were heard to exclaim, “There’s some beautiful geology out there!”

Reminiscing Grandmother

A grandmother was telling her granddaughter what her own childhood had been like . . . “We used to skate outside on a pond. I had a swing made from a tire; it hung from a tree in our front yard. We rode our pony. We picked wild raspberries in the woods.”

The little girl was wide-eyed, taking all this in. At last she said, “Gramma, I sure wish I’d gotten to know you sooner!”
