~★~♥~♥~★~ El Morno! ♥~★~★~♥ ~
September 2, 2011
★~ Today’s Quote: You should listen to your heart, and not the voices in your head ~ Marge Simpson
★~ Beheading Day:
When I learned it was Beheading Day, the first two lines of Rudyard Kipling’s poem If immediately came to mind:
If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you
There aren’t any guidelines about how to celebrate this holiday, so you just have to use your head and figure it out for yourself. However, one way might be to appreciate the good head on your shoulders and use it when a crisis erupts instead of losing it.
Another way to celebrate might be by wearing a hat.
★~ Blueberry popsicles Day:
Lucky me! I have two blueberry popsicles left over from Cherry Popsicle Day, so I’m all set to celebrate the blueberry popsicle. Popsicle days are quickly melting away, so take the time to sit on the steps and enjoy a blueberry popsicle and the last few weeks of summer.
★~ Today in History:
♥~ 1901 – Speaking at a state fair in Minnesota, Vice President Theodore Roosevelt offered the advice, quoting a West African proverb, “Speak softly and carry a big stick; you will go far.
♥~ 1962 – Ken Hubbs of the Chicago Cubs set a major-league baseball fielding record. ‘Hubbs of the Cubs’ played errorless ball for his 74th consecutive game.
♥~ 1973 – J.R.R. (John Ronald Reuel) Tolkien died. The English Christian language scholar and novelist was 81 years old. He was author of the modern classic, The Hobbit, the prelude to his epic masterpiece, The Lord of the Rings.
♥~ 1995 – Dangerous Minds, the soundtrack album from the movie starring Michelle Pfeiffer, hit #1 on Billboard.
♥~ 2007 – A concert in Golden Gate Park in San Francisco celebrated the 40th anniversary of the Summer of Love. The free party featured dozens of veterans of the era.
★~ Born Today:
♥~ 1955 – Linda Purl actress: Happy Days, Matlock, Beacon Hill, Robin’s Hoods, Under Cover
♥~ 1964 – Keanu Reeves actor: Chain Reaction, A Walk in the Clouds, Johnny Mnemonic, Speed, Little Buddha, Bram Stoker’s Dracula, My Own Private Idaho, Parenthood, Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure, Dangerous Liaisons, River’s Edge , Youngblood, Brotherhood of Justice, Babes in Toyland, Act of Vengeance, Dream to Believe
♥~ 1966 – Salma Hayek actress: Desperado, Wild Wild West, Traffic, Once Upon a Time in Mexico, Murphy’s Law
★~ Did You Know:
♥~ Beheading, while gruesome, can be one of the quickest and least painful ways to die – so long as the executioner is skilled, his blade sharp, and the condemned sits still.
♥~ The height of decapitation technology is, of course, the guillotine. Officially adopted by the French government in 1792, it was seen as more humane than other methods of execution. When the guillotine was first used in public, onlookers were reportedly aghast at the speed of death.
♥~ Queen Anne Boleyn wanted to go to her death with some dignity and showed her sense of humor when she talked of her execution and referred to the the comforting fact that she “only had a little neck.”
♥~ French swordsmen/executioners are considered the best because they were known to be able to sever the head with one blow.

If Marie Antoinette had said, “Let them eat cake,” we could have celebrated Beheading Day with cake. But she didn’t so we can’t—unless, of course, you want to. Cake is always good, and let’s face it—even if she didn’t say it, she probably thought it.
Let’s think about it…I will be back in just a little bit to muse about Marshmallow Day, but right now in order to get ahead I must start my day. Let me know what you think if you have a morno moment by leaving a comment. Odd Loves Company!
Have a fabulous Friday—the start to a three-day weekend! Be mindful out there.

I think beheading would be a horrible way to die (as if there’s a good way, huh?!). No, seriously, can you imagine being on your knees waiting to hear that machinery slam down, knowing your head is going to roll away from your body? Ugh, gruesome!
I am pretty sure you are good company about believing beheading would be a horrible way to die….of-course burned at the stake wouldn’t be a good way either. Just saying….
Happy Labor Day Katybeth. I hoping not to loose my head today. But if I do, I will know why. You know it being Beheading Day and all. 😀
You have a good head on your shoulders….I’m sure it will stay there…
Happy Labor Day Kathy!
Three day weekend filled with birthday invite, farawell party, swimming lesson, bbq and oh.. Tyra going back to school on Tuesday and not to mention a messy house that need to be clean and pile of laundry that can’t no longer be ignore. I pray to God I’ll still have my head with this weekend is done and over with! 🙂
Just give everyone the heads up that you plan to bury your head in the sand and not race around like a chicken with it’s head cut off all weekend!
Today heads will roll but I don’t care it’s Friday and a three day weekend!! Yes.
Have a good one.
Woohoo! It’s the start of something wonderful Mike!
Be mindful out there.
I think we should have cake. But perhaps we should leave off, “Happy Beheaded Day.”
So happy it is a three day weekend (I am happier than Mike) 😀
I could not agree more! Cake without the lettering!
