★~ International Geek Pride Day:

May 25th is a magical confluence of three utterly relevant and utterly geeky observed holidays.

• Towel Day, the day two weeks after Douglas Adams passed in 2001, when hoopy froods keep their towel handy;
• The anniversary of the first Star Wars film, Episode IV: A New Hope, released on May 25, 1977;
• Glorious 25 May, the day in Terry Pratchett’s Discworld when wearing lilac and hard-boiled eggs (and raising awareness around Alzheimer’s research) is appropriate; and
• 5 + 25 + 12 = 42. Enough said.

★~ Today is National Wine Day:

As we think about Memorial Day and the festivities ahead, lets remember that someone put their life on the line for us. And for that, I suggest we all raise a glass of wine or our favorite beverage this weekend with appreciation for the incredible people who have taken selflessness to the highest level and one of the best ways to honor those that have fought wars to protect a huge population of people who will never know them is to keep it safe out there.

♥~ 1935 – This was “the greatest day in the history of track,” according to The New York Times. Jesse Owens of Ohio State University broke two world sprint records, tied a third, and broke a long-jump world record in a meet at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.

♥~ 1950 –  The Brooklyn-Battery Tunnel in New York City was opened to traffic. At 9,117 feet (2,778.87 meters), it was — and still is — the longest continuous underwater vehicular tunnel in North America.

♥~ 1968 – The Rolling Stones released “Jumping Jack Flash.”

♥~ 1981 – Twenty-five year old Dan Goodwin was looking to have some fun. So, with nothing but three suction cups and a Spiderman cartoon costume, Goodwin began to scale the world’s tallest building — the Sears Tower in Chicago, IL. Goodwin climbed for six hours, with Chicago’s boys in blue doing their best to safely stop him from the perilous climb. When Goodwin reached the 50th floor of the skyscraper, he stopped for a few minutes, talked with the police and, assuring them of his safety, made the rest of the climb in about an hour. The police had agreed not to bother him until he got to the top where he was arrested for trespassing. Goodwin was released after paying a fine.

♥~ 1990: Gary Stewart of Los Angeles set a Guinness world record by jumping 177,737 times on his pogo stick.

♥~ 1993: The U.S. issued a patent (#5,213,234) to Ioannis Stefanopoulos of Arlington, Virginia, for his Moo Cream Pitcher, a cow-shaped pitcher that moos when it pours cream or milk.

♥~ 1878 – Let’s all tap, in honor of the birthday of legendary tap dancer Bill Robinson, more recognized by his nickname, Mr. Bojangles, than by his birth name, and known to many as the Mayor of Harlem, was personified in music. First Duke Ellington recorded Bojangles, a musical portrait of the man, in 1940. Then The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band recorded Mr. Bojangles, a top-ten hit record in 1971.

I just had the most wonderful lunch OUT at the funest place! I can’t wait to tell you about it. It is been so long since I have been able to have lunch away from my campers that I was afraid that I would reach over and stir Julianne food for her but I didn’t!  I will be back to muse with you in a little bit!
