Lake Michigan Waves after Sandy
★~ Today’s Quote: The rarest quality in an epitaph is truth. ~ Henry David Thoreau
★~ Day of the Dead:
Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) began Thursday, November 1, 2012, and ends Friday, November 2, 2012. Departed souls are remembered not in mourning but with a spirit of friendliness and good humor. Cemeteries are visited, and graves are decorated. Click for more about the Day of the Dead.
Today we will wrap up Samhain, All Saints Day and The Day Of The Dead. This is the time to remember, honor, and toast our departed, for the veil between the living and the dead is thin, and communication is possible. Signs and communication come in many forms.
In honor of the Day of the Dead I will pull a tarot card for each person who comments here. And post a very brief message message for you from….well…let’s just say, the beyond….
★~ Plan Your Epitaph Day:
Plan your own epitaph so you can make sure you have the last word when it comes to what goes on your grave stone and you might want to insist someone proof reads it for any monumental errors.
A Few Memorable Epitaphs
“…Curst be he that moves my bones.” William Shakespeare:
“On the whole, I’d rather be in Philadelphia.” W.C. Fields:
“I made an ash of myself.” Julian Skaggs, West Virginia:
★~ Deviled Egg Day:
A deviled egg by another name is eggs mimosa. This dish is a traditional favorite in both American and French cultures. Deviled eggs originated in ancient Rome but the term “deviled” didn’t appear until the 18th century when it was used to describe highly seasoned, fried, or boiled dishes. By the 19th century, the word “deviled” was used to describe hot seasonings in general. Today, not all deviled egg recipes are spicy, but a little cayenne pepper or hot mustard can always give them an extra kick.

Twitter : NYC friends. I’m in Harlem with water, electricity and food. Please let me know if you need info or help with anything.
Facebook: A woman stationed in Arizona couldn’t reach her mother, who lives alone. She posted a Facebook request asking high school alumni living near her mom to check in with her if they could. A man she barely knew in high school, who is now a firefighter, saw the post and rang her mom’s doorbell. Back on Facebook, he let the woman know he had found her mom, safe and sound.

Cole doesn’t have school today so I’m going to make this for breakfast. Crusty Dinner Rolls with Baked Eggs and Herbs. I am going to make it with dinner roll and top with bacon!
Wishing you a fabulous FRIDAY!
Morno,
You’re here bright and early today! Deviled eggs are great. Must ask sis to put them on the menu for Sunday. I will offer to add a dash of Paprika!
FRIDAY. College boy is in town for a few days so we might golf a little if the weather holds up.
My epitaph might read, “I would rather be golfing.”
Have a good one.
Mike I’m sure your sister does not expect such effort from you on Thanksgiving. I know, maybe you could just bring her a carton of eggs when you come to dinner the week before!!
I think you should put that epitaph in your will!!
LOVE DEVILED EGGS. I could easily eat 6 or 12 of them. The Day of the Dead is such an interesting festival. I will have to think about a suitable Epitaph–I am sure my husband would put something like–Here lies my beloved Lizzy who was always in a Tizzy.
I am off to request a card! You are so much fun.
I have eaten at least that many and suffered the side effects.
Fun. Me? Well thank you!
Loved the epitaphs! I suppose mine would be: The Blonde Flew on Her Broom to the Big House.
That works! I can even picture you saddled on that broom…hair tucked behind one ear…running smack dab into a thunderous cloud. You wouldn’t want to travel and arrive without a story, would you??
♥
My epitaph will read ” Nobody does their F’in job.” Seriously. It’s in my will. Now, do I get a card read???? 🙂
Nancy. That is funny. And a complete surprise coming from you which makes it even funnier. Yes, of-course!
yes…..deviled eggs!
great today’s quote. my epitaph: life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty & well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, & loudly proclaiming — wow, what a ride!
kudos to those compassionate *i have* folk helping out the *i have not* folk out east.
marathon runners ARE a resilient group & will weather(!)the staten hotel issue!
Good day!
Funny. I have heard that epitaph or some variation of it several times over the last couple of weeks. I am taking it as a sign to get busy and make a few waves. 😀
Love the good feelings and extra effort when things turn bad just wish we could hold onto them. Ah well, right now is what is important and everyone is pitching in. Did you agree that the Marathon should have been canceled? I sure felt bad for the runners that made the trip.
the epitaph is my signature. i needed to clean it up though!
canceling the nyc marathon was the right thing to do. officials should have canceled the race a lot sooner than they did. thousands of runners made their way to nyc by the time word was issued. i feel bad for the runners who put in the necessary hard training only to have no race. perhaps the majority had a back up marathon planned. regardless, runners are adaptable!
My epitaph will be “I was here but now I’m gone. You are left and must carry on.” Love me some deviled eggs. Oh and did you see where Alabama Power sent help to get electricity on and New Jersey said thanks but no thanks. You are not union. So they went to New York and were welcomed. Could not believe that.
Very clever Kathy! I heard that story. A little high and mighty but I am glad New York was grateful for their help.Deviled eggs are heavenly!
Gotta love the enterprising little guy offering magic tricks to benefit hurricane victims!
I guess there’s an idiot/sucker born every minute — who in their right mind would fork over $140 million for that hideous (just sayin’!) painting??
Great picture of the waves on Lake Michigan — they’ve been talking about them on WGN for days now, and I’m glad you were able to show us what the hoopla was about!
I thought the same thing. Cole and I have been to some amazing museums but there is always a section that makes us stop and wonder…”Why is this hanging on this wall? ” Always reminds me of the Emperors new clothes—someone should cry out UGLY.
Landed an amazing illegal parking spot. Amazing what a big camera, tripod, and a lanyard around my neck can do…i also grabbed Cole out of school and we headed to Indiana for the afternoon for more amazing waves. Figure he will remember these moments much longer than what he learned or didn’t learn in Math and English. :-D. But that is another blog post. ♥
I was just reading the news about the 2 boys body that was missing and now is found. 2 yrs old and 4 yrs old who somehow got seperated from their mom while trying to escape the water/waves. Devestating. I cry for the family and the everybody that got affected by Sandy.
I’m thinking I should bring devil eggs for thanksgiving pot luck now. I can only awe people with my egg rolls so many times, it time to change! 🙂
Water can be so terrifying and brutal!
I am sure your egg rolls are devine but I have never seen a left over deviled egg. Usually the plate is empty
