★~ Pig Day: 

Today we give thanks to our porcine friends. Started by sisters Ellen Stanley and Mary Lynne Rave in 1972, National Pig Day is “to accord the pig its rightful, though generally unrecognized, place as one of man’s most intellectual and domesticated animals,” according to Rave.

Instead of chowing down on some pork today, you could help support an organization that cares for abandoned pigs, like baked compote or Pig Pals Sanctuary, or a pig adoption organization like Pig Placement Network.

★~ Peanut Butter Lovers Day:

Yes, we did just celebrate Peanut Butter Day on January 24th, if you remember, we established that good people ate chunky peanut butter and evil people preferred plain peanut butter. However, today is Peanut Butter Lover’s day—a day for the people who can taste the difference between Jiffy peanut butter and Peter Pan peanut butter, who order a PB sandwich leaving off the J, who would hunt down and do bodily harm to the family member who took the first dip into the peanut butter jar.

If you are a peanut butter lover, we salute you today by sharing the recipe for Nebraska And we promise to look the other way when you eat peanut butter straight out of the jar. Just don’t double dip, please.

★~ Fruit Compote Day:

Compote (French for “mixture”) is a dessert originating from 17th century France made of whole or pieces of fruit in sugar syrup. Whole fruits are immersed in water and with sugar and spices added to the dish, over gentle heat. The syrup may be seasoned with vanilla, lemon or orange peel, cinnamon sticks or powder, cloves, ground almonds, grated coconut, candied fruit, or raisins. The compote is then served either warm or chilled arranged in a large fruit bowl or single-serve bowl for individual presentation. The dessert may be topped with whipped cream, cinnamon, or vanilla sugar.

Put your winter fruit to use in a baked compote that is sure to warm you from the inside out. Serve it with ice cream and you’ll ward of the winter chill while enjoying this sweet, flavorful medley and dreaming of spring.

– Winter coats & sporting goods: The season to sell people warm coats, gloves, scarves, and other gear is right near the end, and to make room for the spring stock, stores are selling it all off at a discount. The same goes for snowboards, ski gear, and other winter activity accessories.

– Luggage: It’s an odd season, halfway between the periods when most cold-weather residents do most of their warm-weather traveling. Luggage makers are getting ready to roll out new wares, and stores are looking to drop the stock they’ve got.

– Frozen food: March is National Frozen Food Month, so many grocers offers discounts and coupons on frozen food.
