★~ Pig Day:
Today we give thanks to our porcine friends. Started by sisters Ellen Stanley and Mary Lynne Rave in 1972, National Pig Day is “to accord the pig its rightful, though generally unrecognized, place as one of man’s most intellectual and domesticated animals,” according to Rave.
Instead of chowing down on some pork today, you could help support an organization that cares for abandoned pigs, like baked compote or Pig Pals Sanctuary, or a pig adoption organization like Pig Placement Network.
Last year to in honor of pig day El Morno lined up some of the finest pig snorters of all time. Please click Pigs! We salute you with our Snorts! I promise you will be amazed at there exsnortinary snorting ability.
★~ Peanut Butter Lovers Day:
Yes, we did just celebrate Peanut Butter Day on January 24th, if you remember, we established that good people ate chunky peanut butter and evil people preferred plain peanut butter. However, today is Peanut Butter Lover’s day—a day for the people who can taste the difference between Jiffy peanut butter and Peter Pan peanut butter, who order a PB sandwich leaving off the J, who would hunt down and do bodily harm to the family member who took the first dip into the peanut butter jar.
If you are a peanut butter lover, we salute you today by sharing the recipe for Nebraska And we promise to look the other way when you eat peanut butter straight out of the jar. Just don’t double dip, please.
★~ Fruit Compote Day:
Compote (French for “mixture”) is a dessert originating from 17th century France made of whole or pieces of fruit in sugar syrup. Whole fruits are immersed in water and with sugar and spices added to the dish, over gentle heat. The syrup may be seasoned with vanilla, lemon or orange peel, cinnamon sticks or powder, cloves, ground almonds, grated coconut, candied fruit, or raisins. The compote is then served either warm or chilled arranged in a large fruit bowl or single-serve bowl for individual presentation. The dessert may be topped with whipped cream, cinnamon, or vanilla sugar.
Put your winter fruit to use in a baked compote that is sure to warm you from the inside out. Serve it with ice cream and you’ll ward of the winter chill while enjoying this sweet, flavorful medley and dreaming of spring.

♥~ When the Anglo-Saxons converted to Christianity, they held their chief season of fasting at this time the month ‘fast of lenet monet’ which in time became ‘Lent’.
♥~ Best buys in March
– Winter coats & sporting goods: The season to sell people warm coats, gloves, scarves, and other gear is right near the end, and to make room for the spring stock, stores are selling it all off at a discount. The same goes for snowboards, ski gear, and other winter activity accessories.
– Luggage: It’s an odd season, halfway between the periods when most cold-weather residents do most of their warm-weather traveling. Luggage makers are getting ready to roll out new wares, and stores are looking to drop the stock they’ve got.
– Frozen food: March is National Frozen Food Month, so many grocers offers discounts and coupons on frozen food.

Odd Loves Company,

TGIF!
Long week, glad it’s over. I remember Isabel’s snort from last year. I kind of hoped she would do another snorting number. She could go far.
Believe it or not I’ve had fruit compote. It was served over vanilla ice-cream and was very tasty.
I need a new coat, I guess this would be a good month to buy it. Shopping isn’t as painful when you find a good deal.I might make my daughter shop with me over spring break.
Have a good one.
Isabel’s snort is pretty awesome. I will ask for a do-over for next year…I promise.
We just bought Cole a new coat tonight. He had been looking at it for awhile–very stylish and the price had dropped 50%. Take your daughter and go….
Morno! So glad it’s Friday.
Love peanut butter, Fruit compote is good, it’s served at a lot of the banquets I go too. Justin Bierbers birthday. My niece insists on playing his music, I guess to each generation their own but I just don’t get the appeal.
I shouldn’t encourage you but I am easily amused too.
Enjoy your day!
I don’t think most of us get Bierber’s appeal–his music is pretty awful but I guess he is nice, clean cut kid so your niece could do worse.
Thank you for me amused with me!
Rabbit rabbit, phew, I said it aloud. Gonna be a good month. Had my peanut butter and banana this morning. Happy Friday!
It is going to be a wonderful month!!
Rabbit Rabbit!
I love peanut butter and I have the fondest memories of listening to ‘Pinball wizard’ ad nauseum as a teenager. Great song but gee it was long and produced well before Michael Jackson’s Thriller became famous for it’s short movie style video.
Happy Friday and rabbit, rabbit!
It was a long song, i did not have the record but I remember a friend playing it over and over.
Rabbit Rabbit! Good Aussie!
piglets are cute, but that’s about it.
love peanut butter especially smooth so i guess i am evil. i’ll accept that. this household prefers skippy.
fruit compote is pretty tasty. sounds good right now.
i like elton john’s & the who’s early music.
march means march madness to me. i enjoy the competition & excitement of the college game.
good day!
Well according to Cole they are also tasty. Be glad you stuck with four legged children.
No….as I told Debbie (below you) it seems I was wrong everyone loves creamy. Crunchy is evil and I always thought I was the nice one. Oh well.
Last year we did a bracket pool on Basketball (Facebook) and it went on forever…I had know idea how much madness there was….a lot!
I’m arriving late because of an over-stuffed morno. Love peanut butter and I guess I’m one of the evil ones who prefer it plain!
March also is the birth month of two very special sons (yours and mine!)
March Madness is a wonderful time for all that college basketball!
Is that a picture of a dandelion??
It’s seems I may be wrong–everyone except me likes creamy. Where did I go wrong? Oh, well….I don’t mind being the evil one…evil is kind of fun. 😀
I’ll celebrate pig day with a pork loin roast that’s in the oven. I like creamy peanut butter and love fruit compote. What happened to the days when we all had a big jar of fruit compote on the kitchen counter?
March is a magical month because a magical child was born on it’s 7th day.
MJ
DM you and your Dear Boy are a lot alike. I told him it was pig day and he said, “How nice! I love pigs! So tasty.” I don’t think you ever made me fruit compote and I never remember it on the counter.
True…March is a wonderful Month!
Fruit compote is always good. We use to have a neighbor with a pig. Cute little guy and smart too. Snort was his name. They eventually moved further into the country and Snort lived a very happy life. He was the star of their Christmas card for many years, I always enjoyed receiving it. We even drove out to visit Snort with the kids and he played with them just like a dog. I guess, he lived to be 12 or 13. Interesting facts about March. I could use a new suitcase, maybe I will look into buying one this month.
Have a nice weekend.
Aww…what a nice story!! So happy snort lived happily ever after. I was at the mall tonight and noticed suitcases on sale. If you need one the time might be right!
When the kids were little we lived on a farm and had pigs. The kids had one favorite that they called George and he would run back and forth with them in the barn. They loved that pig,and for some reason they named him after their uncle George. They had a special name for him that I can’t remember now. Poor George the pig eventually had to go to market. They wouldn’t eat any pork for fear it was George.
Well, how could they eat George? Good Lord, that would be like eating a family member. Poor George. Hope they treated the Uncle better…..
