★~ Same Old Stuff Day:

One of the biggest reasons people get stuck in a rut, bored by their lives and doing the same old thing instead of taking action to change their lives for the better, is simply that the process is uncomfortable. Today we are invited to push the “old stuff” in our lives to the side and try something new.

And what will happen when you try something new? I am so glad you asked….“You’ll be on your way up! You’ll be seeing great sights! You’ll join the high fliers who soar to high heights….Oh the places you’ll go!  And “Will you succeed? Yes, you will indeed. (98¾% guaranteed.)” Dr. Seuss—sort of.

Celebrate “Same Old Stuff Day” by making an effort to try something new this weekend.

★~ Banana Cream Pie Day:

Banana Crème Pie

People have been making pies filled with cream, pudding, and custard since the Medieval times. Similar inventions from that era include Napoleons, cream puffs, and éclairs. Bananas arrived in the United States in the 1880s. By the early 1900s, banana recipes appeared in every major cookbook across the country. Traditional banana cream pie recipes call for a crust made out of graham crackers or pastry dough; a layer of sliced bananas; a custard filling made with eggs, milk, sugar, and vanilla; and a topping of whipped cream or meringue. Common embellishments include pecans or drizzles of chocolate and caramel. Old Fashion Banana Creme Pie.

Loggers were so upset about the book that some groups within the industry sponsored “The Truax,” a similar book — but from the logging point of view. The book also used to contain the line, “I hear things are just as bad up in Lake Erie,” but 14 years after the book was published, the Ohio Sea Grant Program wrote to Seuss creator Theodore Geisel, and told him how much conditions had improved and requested that he take the line out. When people speak of “the classics,” the books that come to my mind are Green Eggs and Ham, The Cat in the Hat, and To Think that I Saw It On Mulberry Street! I loved Seuss when I was a dumb little kid and enjoyed reading them all over again to Cole.

My favorite Dr. Seuss book is And to Think That I Saw it on Mulberry Street but I also loved The Cat in The Hat. Do you have a favorite Dr. Seuss book? What you don’t like Dr Seuss?!! How can that be? Well…maybe, you would like him in a car? In a boat? On a train?

Check out Weekend Out and Ends for a chance to win a FUN book.  Hope you have a scintillating Saturday!

  1. Morno,
The good Dr. Seuss.Good guy. I use to call my kids Things 1 and Thing 2,they always got along with one another and managed to find some way to plot against me.
That bananan cream sure looks good. Something new this weekend? Maybe I could nap in a different direction on the couch–would that count?
    Have a good one.

    • LOL…well it’s nice your kids get along…. Napping in a different direction could be the start of something big. . .it definitely counts!

  2. Good Morno!
Love Dr. Seuss. I bought my niece all of his books and still have some of mine. My favorite is Green Eggs and Ham. It is a classic.
Do something new…well, I have never had Banana cream pie!
Must go check out your Odd and Ends!
    Enjoy your day!

    • Green Eggs and Ham is a classic. Tasting banana cream pie might be the perfect new thing to try. Go for it!

love dr. seuss! fond memories of my mom & i laughing ourselves silly while reading these books. before moving, we donated the set to the old elementary school library.
like my bananas, but not banana cream pie or bread, etc. weird.
    good day!
enjoyed watching wilt play when the nba actually played bb instead of the product that’s played now.

    • If it’s not broken don’t fix it, isn’t a bad life philosophy…..sometimes tho is nice to put a toe outside the box, don’t you think?
One of the best reason to love Seuss is the good memories.
Bananas–well I love bananas a lot but I am not a big filling person so Banana crème pie would not top my list. I do like banana bread, tho, One day you will have to share the “ripe” way to pick out the perfect bananas!

  4. I loved Dr. Seuss as a kid, and Domer loved hearing me and reading them himself as he grew. I’ve still got my copy of Yertle the Turtle and Other Stories!

That banana cream pie looks delicious, but I don’t like bananas. Perhaps we could switch its innards to lemon?!

Nice picture of the cow hanging on the fence!

    • I still have some of my Seuss books too. I’m not sure how they survived all my moving around but I hung onto them through thick and thin.
El Morno Food of the Day welcomes substitutions. Lemon sounds very good.
The cow picture…I have it in a frame on my desk…it reminds me to get over it and mooove on.

  5. I didnt know about the banana cream pie…man, it does look delicious….
I love the same old stuff day….doing things the same old way gets you the same old results…..its nice to change things up now and then…but routines are also good…..i appreciate all the great ideas…lots of fun xo….making strawberry daiquiries tonight …. something different !!

    • Strawberry daiquiris are a great way to celebrate “same old stuff day.” They will chase away the winter blues.
If you like Bananas and fillings try a piece of banana cream pie.
Hope you had a sassy Saturday!

  6. I LOVE Banana Cream Pie. My favorite. Wish my mom was still here so she could make me one. I hate to cook, ya know, so I won’t make my own.
I like to keep things in the same o same o way. I try something different, but end up going back to the original way.
