★~ Love a Tree Day:
A few suggestions on how to love a tree…..
~ Release your inner “tree hugger” – Just get out there and wrap your arms around your favorite old arboreal pal.
~ Give your tree a long, cool drink – In the garden setting, trees are the tall silent type. They are not usually crying for attention the way those bratty flowers and shrubs do. Think of them as nature’s middle child. But, trees have needs too, and one of the main ones is for more water. Watering a tree means soaking the root system. It takes time and patience but the result is a regular root soaking will make a world of difference to a tree’s long-term health.
~ Provide some wildlife-friendly ornamentation – Even if trees are fairly stoic they can be a tad vain. Every tree enjoys a little nature-appropriate ornamentation. Perhaps a good bird feeder or bird house.
★~ Sea-Monkey Day:
Sea-monkeys, are a variety of the brine shrimp. They’ve been marketed as pets since 1960, when scientist Harold von Braunhut observed their eggs have a long shelf life out of water, and, once hatched, they’re pretty easy to care for.
After re-naming them “Instant Life,” von Braunhut started selling packets of sea-monkey eggs as pets for 49 cents. Since then sea-monkey kits have been sold from the back pages of comic books, in toy stores and, of course, on the Web. Today’s sea-monkeys come with a two-year guarantee and are sold in 12 countries worldwide. (Some of you wondered the last time we celebrated sea monkey day if you could still purchase them…yes)
If you are interested in purchasing Sea Monkeys enlist the help of Susan Barclay, a Canadian woman who likes to be called “The Sea-Monkey Lady.” Susan is know for running the best sea-monkey site on the Web, seamonkeyworship.com.
★~ Purple for Peace Day:
Purple for Peace Day is celebrated as a way to welcome aliens to earth. Apparently, aliens like the color purple. Think of it as a Pep day for Aliens. Put on your purple, grab your pom pom’s and cheer….(thank you Cousin Carla for the cheer)
Give me a U
Give me an F
Give me an O
What do we want?
Aliens
How do we want them?

★~Coquilles St. Jacques Day
At one time scallops were enjoyed in the same manner as baked clams. The mollusk was diced and mixed with bread crumbs, sauce and baked in its original shell. Printed recipes for Coquilles Saint-Jacques, or scallops smothered in a creamy wine and mushroom sauce, date back to French cookbooks of the early 1900s. The mixture is cooked in the shell of the scallop and is named after Saint Jacques.
According to legend, Saint Jacques saved the life of a drowning knight. The knight emerged from the sea covered with scallops shells. Scallops were named ‘Coquilles St. Jacques’ in St. James honor, as was the dish.”
This sounds really good, and I have the appropriate shells to make it with, but ya know I think I’ll just order this dish from a menu. For those of you who enjoy cooking this recipe looks good, is rated five stars, and shares more about what makes Coquilles St. Jacques special! Coquilles St-Jacques (Gratinéed Scallops)

Blue is consider the top “favorite color,” with purple being a distant second. While being mundane and obvious is rather dull, I must be ask…. What is your favorite color?
Odd Loves Company!
Morno,
My socks have a little purple on them. Favorite color is green, I guess. My daughter had Sea Monkeys for awhile. She named them and everything. Perfect pet for a kid, they don’t last very long and then they can have a funeral. Trees are great, except for the cottonwoods that give my allergies fits. I’ve never had Coquilles St. Jacques looks tasty.
Have a good one.
Morno Mike!
Glad you are in tune with the color of the day. Good point about Sea Monkeys. Kids love a good funeral. Cottonwoods flying around here too (I think that is what they are called) and giving my nose fits.
Happy Thursday!
Red is my favorite color. We also had a go with sea monkeys but not great success. I love my trees —our spruce we planted are called Fat Albert spruces and the birds love them. I love their name. 🙂 As for Coquilles St. Jacques—-gotta pass on that one. Scallops make me deathly ill—–found out on our honeymoon…..not a good experience. Happy Thursday!
Too funny—I was just reading and commenting on your post! Oh wow..sick on your honeymoon on scallops! Now, that is a story.
Red is a such a bold, splashy color…wonderful isn’t it!
Favorite color is green, of course! You had to know that!!
Scallops? I’ve never had them and the kid in me says I don’t want to. Why? They just look “icky,” that’s all. I’m not very adventuresome when it comes to dining!
Neither Domer nor I had a Sea Monkey pet. I had fish in past years, but they, too, don’t have very long lives and that’s sad. Especially when you have to flush them.
I might have guessed, but you surprised me about beverages. My goldfish have been swimming happily since November. Here is the odd part, I have not cleaned the tank–I run a filter, and add water but the tank has stayed clean. I took the water to be analyzed and it was good. We missed the Sea Monkeys, how I will never know….
I rather like purple myself, seeing it is my birthstone. but to me, colors are colors and don’t mean anything else. But…to each his own. No scallops for me either. I’m with Debbie on that.. Give me lobster always…LOVE THEM!
I like scallops, but I would choose Lobsters over scallops in a heartbeat. I think you would look smashing in purple or with a purple hat!
I ordered sea monkeys when I was little and they never “hatched” or whatever they were supposed to do. I was pissed!
Guess your bad luck with pets started early? Your girls might do better with them, you should try, try again. When are their birthdays??
green is my favorite color. purple i don’t care for for some unknown reason.
i’m sure we had sea monkeys as kids, but i do not remember them.
i have a huge ash tree in front that is quite nice. it is past its normal life span so i must be doing something right. this comes from someone without a green thumb!
good day!
I feel an ash pun..but can’t quiet grab it. Let me get back to you. Surely you would remember your sea monkeys? Ask an older sib! Well, we can’t all like the same colors..or something like that…
Hope you had a lovely day!
Lime green. Actually I like all shades of green.
Here’s a simple recipe for scallop lovers. Buy the big scallops and cut a piece of raw bacon in half lengthwise and in half again, but width wise. Wrap the scallop with the piece of bacon and toothpick. Grill on a hot grill for 3-5 minutes. I sometimes baste it with a ginger/teriyake type glaze. So easy and YUM!!
That lime green Chico’s shirt looks smashing on you! BTW have you noticed Chico’s quality slipping? I was in there the other day and could not find anything and it seems like the colors are fading much quicker…..I digress. Thanks for the scallop recipe! I will try it, it looks like something I can manage and very tasty! Maybe we should start a cook book on Odd? MMMM.
I love purple if it’s a deep purple. When you show your dog in the breed ring what you want is that purple ribbon!
I love trees and flowers and schrubs and almost everyhting else that grows outside. I’m never inside if I can be outside.
Those scallops looked interesting, maybe I’ll give them a try the next time my friend visits.
MJ
The neighborhood is full of flowers, and blooms of all kinds of colors. My azalea bush is getting ready to burst into purple flowers. I can’t believe I have managed to keep three of them alive.
Try the scallops…you’ll like them..No, I don’t think you will, but your friend and daddy will like them.
