★~National Weatherperson’s Day:

Created for eighteenth century weather observer John Jeffries, Weathercasters’ Day honors “men and women who collectively provide Americans with the best weather, water, and climate forecasts and warning services of any nation,” the National Weather Service advises us.

The weather forecasters have been on the mark this year in our area and to tell the truth I kind of miss the old days where you could never count on them. Did I mention it was snowing? Again.

★~ World Nutella Day:

In 2007, two American expat writers living in Italy, Sara Rosso and Michelle Fabio, had a dream that Nutella lovers worldwide would unite and eat Nutella for just one day. And so they made it official, declaring their love for the chocolate-hazelnut spread and the day a holiday.

Last year. Nutella lawyers sent Rosso a cease-and-desist letter demanding that she stop publishing anything with the Nutella name, logo or likeness. However, since the original letter the misunderstand was corrected….

“A positive contact between Ferrero and Sara Rosso, owner of the non-official fan page called World Nutella Day, closed the case. Ferrero wishes to express its sincere gratitude to Sara Rosso for her passion for Nutella, a gratitude it extends to all the fans of the Nutella World Day.”
The problem originally emerged from a “routine procedure in defense of trademarks, activated following improper use of the Nutella trademark within the fan page,” explains the company. But once the solution was found, “we immediately interrupted any time of action. Ferrero considers itself lucky to have such a devoted and loyal fan as Sara Rosso.”

World Nutella Day was saved from corporate foolishness and common sense—so dig in and enjoy World Nutella Day!

Nutella and caramelized banana sandwich: 

Ingredients:
1 tablespoon butter
1 tablespoon brown sugar
1 banana (peeled and sliced)
1 or 2 slices of bread
2 tablespoons nutella (chocolate hazelnut spread)

Directions:
1. Melt the butter and sugar in a pan.
2. Add the bananas and cook until golden brown and caramelized on both sides, about 3-5 minutes per side.
3. Assemble sandwich.

★~ Chocolate Fondue Day: 

The word “fondue” is derived from the French word “fondre,” which means to melt. The dish originated in 19th century Switzerland as a way to use up hardened cheese. It became popular for dinner parties in the 1950s, but the chocolate dessert version did not emerge until the 1960s.

Traditional dippers include fresh fruits such as bananas, strawberries, and tangerines; small pieces of cookie or cake; and miscellaneous goodies like marshmallows and pretzels.

♥~ 1861 – Samuel Goodale of Cincinnati, OH patented the moving picture peep show machine. One put in a coin and turned a crank on the side of the ornately decorated box and voila, a flickering movie appeared!

♥~1919 – Charlie Chaplin, Mary Pickford, Douglas Fairbanks Sr. and director D.W. Griffith announced the founding of the United Artists movie studio. United Artists had big hits with the Beatles’ first two movies, “Gilligan’s Island” and the James Bond franchise.

She became a huge star in her own right with several #1 singles and albums in the 1970s. Her name: Carole King.

♥~ 2010 – New Zealand explorers reported finding  five crates of whisky and brandy belonging to polar explorer Ernest Shackleton. The crates had been buried for more than 100 years under the Antarctic ice.

After several school closings due to snow and cold, Stephens Elementary School principal Jim Detwiler and drama teacher Chad Caddell said they wanted to make parents laugh with their latest message home. Mission accomplished!

This morning, from out on my front lawn I heard such a clamor,
The pups were barking and I knew something was the matter.
Some one was yelling from out in the snow,
Hey Lady, Leonard your snow blower is here, don’t you know?
I threw open the door, and rub my snow weary eyes twice,
There stood a stout little man in a red stocking cap
Roaring the engine of his snow blower
He worked his magic in a jiffy
Said cash would be so spiffy.
My walks were all clear
My heading was still spinning
God is good, he sent me a Gnome named Leonard!

Please excuse my poetic attempt,the snow is getting to me. My sweet mother, her Sissy, and cousin Carla are the poets in the family.  The next time Leonard the gnome shows up I’ll try to capture a picture! I’m still trying to figure out where the heck he came from….
