Doberman Running

★~ Best Friend Day:

best--friends-quote

As we grow older, more friends become best friends in different ways. There is a childhood best friend that knew you back in the days; the best friend that you raised your children with over the years; the best friend you may only talk to twice a year, but it only takes you a few moments to catch up; perhaps the best friend you gossip with at the office; or, perhaps, the sister or brother that was once a thorn in your side but grew up to be your best friend.  While our list of best friends may have grown to include more people, what makes a friendship “best” is sharing our most important secrets, hopes, dreams, aspirations, and disappointments with each other throughout the day or over the years.

★~ Name Your Poison:

“Name your poison” is what bartenders say when someone sidles up to the bar (in the movies). However, it can also mean ‘make a choice.’ Maybe it’s the choice about how you plan to kill someone —

In any casem the Long Goodbye might be a good choice of Poison…

♥~ The Long Goodbye: “The Long Goodbye is a smooth, crisp twist on gin classics with curious herbacious notes from the chartreuse. The Dolin Blanc is slightly sweeter than a dry vermouth, more of an aperitif, and mixes swimmingly with gin.”

2 oz dry English gin
0.5 oz Dolin Blanc Vermouth
Dash of citrus bitters
Stirred
Wash a frozen cocktail glass with a tiny splash of Yellow Chartreuse, garnish with a lemon twist

♥~ 1786 – Commercial ice cream was advertised for sale for the first time — in New York City. Could this be the reason why we have celebrated both Chocolate Ice Cream and Rocky Road ice cream in the last couple of weeks?

♥~ 1947 – Lassie debuted on ABC radio. It was a 15-minute show about an extraordinary dog. Lassie’s barking on the radio was provided by the star of the movie Lassie Come Home, a collie named Pal. Animal imitator Earl Keen provided the whines and other dog noises. The announcer was Charles Lyon; Marvin Miller and Betty Arnold played Lassie’s owners. The sponsor was Red Heart dog food. (A Doberman or a Terrier would have burried the books and insisted Timmy wake up to throw a ball, take a walk, or do something fun! )

♥~ 1948 – Television was born and Milton Berle ushered in the television era for the next 18 years as the host of the Texaco Star Theater. Known as Mr Television he sold millions of television sets ultimately making TV the most popular form of entertainment in America. Mr. Television … Uncle Miltie … Milton Berle made generations of televisions  laugh till tears ran down their faces. Those were simpler times. Those were the days…

♥~ 1988 – All Nippon Airways announced that painting eyeballs on its Jets cut bird collisions by 20 percent. Update April 2000: All Nippon Airways will remove the eyeball markings, which proved useless in preventing birds from flying into the engines and causing damage.

♥~ 1991 – Battle Creek, Michigan, served breakfast to 44,938 people at the world’s longest breakfast table, a new world record.

Well sure he can play Jenga but he still needs to learn to wait his turn and good sportsmanship!

Cole is home and as expected had a wonderful time in Maui. He’s being a good sport about taking over with Cookie who really doesn’t like him any better than he does me, but between us we will hang in there until Friday, when the families college age son returns home. My finger feels better than it did yesterday. It’s reassuring and a little surprising that Cookie’s fang is not venomous.

My primary goal for today is moving on to create the second stage of the graduating slide show, adding in the pictures the kids took in Maui. I’m also having fun connecting similar pictures that represent different themes in the graduates lives, for example it seems Cole was destined to attend the Waldorf school.

Chicago Waldorf School –  Mayfair 2014

And it gets better our Seniors will graduate in flower crowns. It is a Waldorf tradition rooted in ancient Greece. More about this tradition later in the week.

Hope you all enjoy a day as beautiful as it is in Chicago! Will you head out on an adventure or lounge in the back yard?

  1. Good Morno,
Happy Birthday Irene. It’s my nephew birthday too. Good day to be born.
As long as the flower crowns don’t have thorns sounds good to me.
I wonder if I can teach Harry to play Jenga. He’s smart.
    Good looking Doberman up top.
I’ll pass on the poison today.
Golf this afternoon and then a barbecue at my sisters. I’m responsible for the ice cream.
Enjoy your day. Glad your finger is better.

    • Birthday wishes al around.
      No thorns.
I’m not sure if you can teach Harry to play Jenga but why not try.
Sounds like you have a good day planned all the way around. Finger is MUCH better. Thanks.

  2. Morno,
Love the flower crowns. So cute. Both pictures. Loved the cat video. Will have to call my BF. Of-course, I’m fortunate to have several. From my single life and from life after kids. On women and one man. They make my life so much better and I hope I do the same for them.
Enjoy your beautiful day. Hot and humid in our neighborhood. But we are out of here in 1 week for 3 weeks.

    • Thank you. That cat was really good, wasn’t he!
Where are you headed on vacation, I can’t remember if you told us?

  3. And a Sheltie never would have let little Timmie fall into that well in the first place!!
    Happy B-day, Irene.
Flower crowns? I’m just guessing here, but I think my Domer would have said, “Ain’t no way!” Cole looks cute in his, though (both of ’em!)
I’ve been busy as a bee today — finally, I get to “rest.”
Love the Frank Lloyd Wright style — on my bucket list to actually tour a place he designed.

    • Of-course, not.
Flower crowns are a long standing tradition but not every student likes them. Each class gets to vote. Majority rules. Either way we don’t do caps and gowns. The girls dress up and the boys wear suits.
Glad you had a chance to rest. Because you know what they say about all work and no play. . .
Frank Lloyd Wright has a house in Chicago, of-course, but there are much prettier ones that I would love to visit.

  4. Thanks for the b-day wishes El Morno friends ^! Weekend celebrations with best (dog walking) friends. Nice. Will talk to my best friend high school friend from MI later on today.
Jenga is one cool cat! Had to watch the video twice.
    A Doberman we should know?
Good luck finishing up the slide show project. What’s the length of time?
    I want your temps!

      • Thank you. He’s pretty cute. Most days. Glad you had a nice birthday. Random Doberman. I just liked the picture and it was your birthday.
I am trying to keep the slide show to 15 minutes give or take a minute or two.

  5. A Doberman would have pushed Timmy in the well!
I remember Cole’s christening like it was yesterday!
    That cat was pretty cool.
    Leaving tomorrow for Chicago. YEA!!!!
Well, so Irene it was Your birthday! Hope it was wonderful and you had much cake.

  6. P. S. Animals are amazing. We usually feed
Trinket at 7AM and 4PM. This morning we fed her at 6AM because we hope to leave early tomorrow morning, so at 3 today she began to insist it was time to feed her! I’d like to introduce Trinket to Cookie!
