★~ Today’s Quote: “I believe when life gives you lemons, you should make lemonade…and try to find someone whose life has given them vodka, and have a party.” ― Ron White
★~ Lemon Juice Day:
The natural way to think of using lemons is to squeeze them over everything from chicken to ice-tea. However lemons are as helpful to the homemaker as they are to the cook! Use them as an air freshener, a degreaser, and for cleaning wooden cutting boards. Toss a quartered lemon down your garbage disposal after you have run some ice through it to help freshen it up.
★~ More Herbs-Less Salt Day:
The harvest of garden herbs is at a peak, and there is nothing better than fresh garden herbs in your favorite recipes. More Herbs, Less Salt Day encourages us to use herbs (when possible) in home-cooked dishes in place of salt.
★~ Chop Suey
The origins of this Chinese-American dish are disputed. Some say that Chinese immigrants created the dish, while others insist that the dish is traditionally Chinese. The name is Cantonese and means “odds and ends.” The stew is simply made from different ingredients mixed together, such as egg, meat, and vegetables (don’t forget the herbs and lemon) and then served over rice or with noodles.

★~ Good to Know:
Lillian Weber, from Iowa, is almost 100 years old, but she doesn’t let her age stand in the way of her life’s mission – helping those in need. She spends every single day making a dress from scratch, so that a child in need will have something to wear. She started the unique project in 2011, and she’s made over 840 dresses so far. Her goal is to make 1,000.
Lillian, who was nominated for WQAD-TV’s ‘Pay It Forward’ award, gets started on a new dress every morning, takes a break at midday, and is finished by the afternoon. “It is just what I like to do,” she said. The dresses she makes are donated to organizations around the world.

And in case you are motivated to teach your pup….

I’ll be back in just a little bit to share a new fond aspect of myself.
Odd Loves Company!
Dallas isn’t much for jumping, probably because Shelties are herders. I don’t think rope-jumping would be his activity of choice!
Nice story about the Iowa woman who makes and donates a dress every day. Our TV station had one last night about a nearly-90-year-old woman who’s been a school crossing guard for, like, ever. It’s inspiring to see older peeps refusing to sit and rock in their golden years.
Not a big Chop Suey fan — but I love lemons!
http://youtu.be/kEq99G-lODw Of-course, I know Jack Russells that will bring you their bowl (very easy to teach) Rascal, however, has people to do those things.
Nice when older people find ways to be make a difference doing things they enjoy.
Lemons are good!
Morno,
I like Chop Suey a lot. There is a place by the office that serves a delicious plateful for lunch. Somehow it feels like health eating.
Lemons are good in a gin and tonic.
Paying it forward seems to motivate a lot of people to do good work.
I’m off until Tuesday. Buddies and I heading out to fish and maybe swing a club or two. I’ll check in when I have internet.
Have a good one.
I enjoy a plate of Chop Suey too.
Have a great time. Stop in when you are in the neighborhood!
Lemons are very versatile. Just like vinegar. I do like the taste of lemons though. I have a sister who would eat them…….that explains a lot.
Good for Lillian Weber! Keeps her busy in a giving way & makes her happy. She gets my vote.
Nik is not a big jumper except when it deals with a couch, chair or bed. She loped over the jumps.
A day late once again……
That does explain a lot. They made a treat at the Mayfair last year by sticking a peppermint stick in a lemon. You sucked on the peppermint and the flavors kind of muddled together. It was sticky. And I didn’t want one.
I live with a few of those jumpers.
