Cupcakes! Chocolate Cupcakes! The perfect treat for Sweetest Day!

Cupcakes first emerged during the 19th century in the United States. There are two theories about how they got their name. One claims that the miniature cakes were originally baked in cups. The other suggests that the name comes from the recipe, which was measured out by the cup—one cup butter, two cups sugar, three cups flour, four eggs, one cup milk, one spoonful baking soda. Here are a few cupcake recipes followed by a few cupcake baking tips.

Today men are  encouraged to grab their razors and liberate their long-suffering physiognomies from their tonsorial oppressors (in a word, shave). Strike that stubble, butcher that beard, hack off those handlebars and say “so long” to that soul patch. Sorry, ZZ Top, but today is a day for smooth, kissable faces.

★~Baby Pygmy Hippo Gallimaufry:

Chocolate Cupcake Day, No Beard Day

In September, a Swedish zoo published pictures of its latest addition – a rare baby pygmy hippo that staff dubbed “Michelin Man” because of her appearance.

Olivia only weighed 6kg (13lb) when she was born in Parken Zoo, Eskilstuna, to female Krakunia and male Anton, and . “She is the cutest little fatty you can imagine,” according to Jennie Westander, a zoologist at Parken zoo. Olivia was born under an international breeding program, and after spending two years with her mother, will be sent off to another zoo in Europe.

Pygmy hippos – an endangered species native to West Africa – look like the more well-known hippopotamus amphibius, but common hippos are about twice the size and weigh four times as much as most of their pygmy relatives. There are fewer than 3,000 of the mammals thought to be remaining in the wild.

I think I want one of those Pigmy hippos. Perfect size for the bathtub and the kiddie pool!

Hope everyone has a super Saturday and a chocolate cupcake!

  1. Cute hippo. I never knew they came in small.
A chocolate cupcake is always good. Not sure If I’ll get around to having one today. I’ve never had a beard or even a mustache.
My kids raced to read the comic Hi and Louis on Sunday Morning.
Looks like rain so I’m not sure if golf will be on the agenda but I have plenty at home to keep me busy and Harry might need some quality time.
    Have a good one.

    • Pigmy hippos were news to me too. I thought they only came in one size.
Spending quality time with Harry sounds like an excellent plan and might keep him from throwing up fur balls in your shoes!

  2. Oh what a cute hippo. The kids will love it. So glad they are being saved from becoming extinct. I am making cupcakes for a Halloween party tomorrow. Chocolate and vanilla. Busy weekend with parties and putting the finishing touches on Halloween costumes. It seems Halloween gets bigger and more elaborate every year.

    • Careful or your kids will want one a pigmy hippo too! Glad you are celebrating cupcake day. Halloween is huge around here! And then it is non stop decorations until after Christmas.

  3. Chocolate cupcake day. Couldn’t miss it. I love cupcakes. Just the right amount of sweet for me. I remember The Chicago Bears Refrigerator. That was back in the days when Chicago had a colorful winning football team.
Olivia is a pretty girly name for that hippo but she is pretty cute.
    Cheers.

    • I moved to Chicago the year they won the SuperBowl. It was a lot of fun and a great team.
The name Olivia struck me as strange too. Hippo girl just does not look like an Olivia to me.
      Hope you had a cupcake!
