Repeat Day, Egg Day

★~ Today’s Quote:  Celebrate what you want to see more of. Tom Peters

★~ Repeat Day:

Repeat Day, Egg Day

Did you know that today is Repeat Day? Did you know that today is Repeat Day? Why am I repeating myself? Well, because today is Repeat Day. If I told you once, I told you three times! Watch a favorite movie twice, have a second donut, or call a family member, and then hang up and call them back . . . and start the same conversation with them all over again. Torturing family members is always a fun way to celebrate any holiday.

Egg Day, Repeat Day

Today is all about the incredible, edible egg!  Wild fowl were domesticated as early as 3200 B.C. Egyptian and Chinese records show that fowl were laying eggs for man in 1400 B.C. Europe has had domesticated hens since 600 B.C. There is some evidence of native fowl in the Americas prior to Columbus’ arrival. However, it is believed that, on his second trip in 1493, Columbus’ ships carried to the New World the first of the chickens. Nearly 200 breeds and varieties of chickens have been established worldwide. Most laying hens in the U.S. are Single-Comb White Leghorns.

Egg Day, Repeat Day , Casey At The Bat

♥~ 1888 – There was no joy in Mudville this day, as Casey at the Bat was first published in The San Francisco Examiner. The author was not given a byline in the paper, but he was given $5. Ernest Thayer wrote a series of comic ballads for the San Francisco paper. Casey at the Bat was the last, and the only one to live on through the years. William DeWolf Hopper,  first recited the poem at Wallach’s Theatre in New York City and then did it again It some 10,000 plus times.

♥~ 1937 – Mrs. Wallis Warfield Simpson of Baltimore, MD, the woman who was the cause of King Edward VIII’s abdication of the British throne, was married  to the former King (The Duke of Windsor). This was the storybook romance; the king in love with the commoner gives up his throne to spend the rest of his life with the woman he loves. They lived happily ever after … in France.

♥~ 1948 – Korczak Ziolkowski began his sculpture of Crazy Horse near Mt. Rushmore.

♥~ 1998 – An 87-foot memorial to Crazy Horse, sculpted into rock near Custer in the South Dakota Black Hills by Korczak Ziolkowski, was dedicated after 50 years of work.

♥~ 2001 – Antony Larose of Windsor, England, got a moth trapped in his ear while trying to rescue a cat from under a bush. He said the pain from beating of the moth’s wings against his eardrum was excruciating. It was eventually removed at a hospital. He said, “The noise was unimaginable.”

We have something burrowing under our sidewalk in the back yard. The hole is along the tree line where the sidewalk is being lifted up by tree roots. Cole and I both agreed to let Vickie (friend and camp helper) look inside the hole with a flashlight and report back. We are generous that way. Vickie bravely took up the challenge, but she didn’t see anything so she packed the dirt back into the hole. She did suggest I hit it with a hose to see what came out. Nice try Vickie. Not. A. Chance. I haven’t been out yet this morning to see if the dirt has been removed by the critter again. Do heffalump’s burrow? I’ve know I’ve seen a few lurking from time to time in the yard. I can see you wondering, nope my pups have shown no interest. Odd, isn’t it? I’ll take a picture of the hole – maybe you have a guess!

Have a Wonderful Wednesday!

  1. Morno,
I’m not a repeat fan. Once is usually enough. Eggs are a winner. I had mine fried this morning.
Cotton Candy flower is pretty. Amazing what people can think up to do.
Not sure about the burrowing critter but I’d keep my fingers out of the hole. What ever it is probably has big teeth.
    Have a good one.

    • Fried eggs on toast! YUM.
Thanks for reassuring me with the big teeth comment. I don’t want a critter with big teeth living under my sidewalk. That just does NOT work for me!
Funny, I thought the same thing about the cotton candy video how on earth would you think to turn spun sugar into a flower. People are just so clever.
Had a wonderful day, hope you did too!

  2. Burrowing creature? Could be a mole. Could be possum, raccoon, or squirrel. I’m with Mike, though — don’t go sticking your bare fingers in there, or you might find you need a trip to the hospital!

A second donut always sounds good. So does a second milkshake, ha!

Sad that Mr. Thayer only got a paltry $5 for his work. We don’t seem to value writers much, do we??

    • I would NEVER stick my own finger in a strange hole–I’d make Cole do it. Our critter seems to have packed up. After Vickie filled in the hold for the second time all the dirt stayed put. Vickie is magic, I tell you. Going forward I may call her the mole whisperer!
Repeat donut! Count me in! Repeat milkshake–CHEERS!

  3. Love the dogs running at you picture today! Were you running backwards???
Just depends on what it is to be repeated…..
Don’t have eggs much, but I do enjoy them.
I’m with Debbie ^…….I vote a burrowing mole.
Could never understand cotton candy. It disappeared much too quickly. That’s ok as it wasn’t close to being a personal favorite. Too sweet.
    Good evening!

    • Funny, I’m not exactly sure how I took this shot. But I do know I was ready to jump out of the way.
Burrowing Mole. Interesting. I’ve never had a mole before. First time for everything.
I hunt down cotton candy vendors on the street which surprisingly you can find in Chicago even in the winter! Wonderful sweet!
